Finally the day has arrived when the Nokia N96 appeared in UK stores. Having been using the N95 for quite some time I was looking forward to getting hold of the updated model with the improved camera, 16 Gb of internal memory thats expandable to 32 with a memory card and larger screen.
Click on the link below to see for yourself, I rather like it:

I wants a new phone. :/
All I've got is some shitty $10 Kyocera Virgin phone.
I want one of those Boost phones, with the GPS in 'em. That just seems neat.

Sweet, nice. I'm still hoping that an Android phone will come out that works on Verizon in the states one day.

Trust me you don't. It's only fun if you know other people that own one and even then it's not cool with people always knowing where you are.

Eh, that particular feature wasn't the part that interested me. It was the navi functions being present in a phone I can get for $40 that interested me.
Really, I'm cheap as shit when it comes to my phones, and even if it sucks, I still get a phone with a better service network and rates than I'm getting from bloody Virgin Mobile.

I saw a lot of iPhones when I was at PAX and I'm not keen on them. Nokia N series phones are better than the iPhone when compared feature for feature but don't fair so well when looking at the interface. The iPhone wins hands down for that.
I'm waiting for a Android phone for Cingular. The T-Mobile service kinda really sucks in my neighborhood.

How does the N96 compare to the N95? I just barely got the N95, and am really enjoying it for the most part (though I wish it had a trackball or a touchscreen, I hate the 5-way nav button.). The N96 is waaaay out of my budget, but I'm curious to see how it compares.

It's a significant improvement over the N95 which is a phone I had since July '07. The screen is larger and brighter. The camera doesn't have the poxy shutter on it and has a better flash. It has 16Gb built in memory which is far larger than the N95's and the navigation buttons for media play have been moved away from the 5 way nav button. I've only had it a couple of days so I'm still trying to get to grips with it but all in all thumbs up so far.

I'm locked in my contract until June with this pile of shit phone.

I sent my sister out to get the phones, and I was told I would get one in black, but all they had were this awful blue color. So I not only have a really shitty phone. It looks really shitty too.
Definitely looking forward to switching providers and getting a decent phone.

I just upgraded from a TyTN II to a Touch Diamond today. It was a free upgrade because I was at the end of my contract so I'm pretty happy!
It does everything the TyTN II did, plus more, better, smaller, lighter, sexier...

Sprint, the back of the phone is actually a tad diff than the one I pictured (which is the GSM version) Sprint added extra ram and a larger battery to their version. Its a hair thicker, still pretty slim though.

The Diamond's just fantastic isn't it? Had mine for a day now and I love it. The first thing I did was remove the awful T-Mobile pink TouchFLO theme and replace it with the default HTC black. Much better.
BTW, another difference with the Sprint version is that it doesn't have a front-facing VGA video camera - I guess that's because Sprint probably doesn't do video calling?

HTC apparently has this monster phone (http://translate.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geekinc.fr%2F2008%2F0 9%2F17%2Fexclu-review-du-htc-touch-hd%2F) that they won't be bring to the states. I died a little but inside. Oh why can't I have a HTC Touch HD. :(

Rumors going around right now that the Touch HD may be getting an Android port from T-mo.

Just noticed the end of it. Looks like the no US release thing is still the case. Sorry. :(

Slacker, I would pay a ridiculous amount if T-Mobile had an Android Touch HD. Hell, I buy one of those even more ridiculous priced for it if it wasn't T-Mobile and unlocked was the only route. An Android Touch HD is something I could probably love. And I don't even know if i'm capable of that emotion. :(

I was going to get a G1 but I've decided to give it a year to mature. There are too many features missing, like support for stereo bluetooth headphones, Exchange support etc. I figure that one the 12 months are up on my Diamond Android will have matured and will be available on something other than that horrendous G1 brick.

A Touch Pro with android would be pretty hot. It's not the Touch HD, but it's a slider. Still has that going for it.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 would be super hot if it ran Android.

As it is, it's Windows Mobile. No thanks.
(Oh yeah, the X1 is an HTC design, too).
DangerousDaze
10-16-2008, 04:59 PM
It's actually a SE design - HTC just build it. I really considered one of these too because it's the same resolution screen as the upcoming Touch HD, but I discarded it because it's a strange screen ratio that isn't supported by all WinMo apps, it's not available yet and keeps slipping back, there are rumours that it's quite laggy in the UI dept, the panels are a bit of a gimmick...
But then again I'm a bit weird because I like WinMo. ;)
Xerxes
10-16-2008, 05:04 PM
I don't think WinMo is that horrible. It's not foreign, but like someone said about Android already, it's like apple stuff. It just works. WinMo is like Windows on PC. You have to work it. That shit gets old. HTC also has flo interface, so it changes winmo a lot. Makes things a little more user friendly.

10-16-2008, 05:17 PM
Agreed. TouchFLO on the Diamond makes using it fun, but then you still have all the WinMo power under the hood. And there is power there, especially if your company uses Exchange.
My last phone was a TyTN II and I'd bought a ton of software for it, which is fine because it all still runs on the Diamond.

Yeah but if given the option of TouchFlo and Android. You'd think google would be aiming for the most kick ass phone they could get android on. HTC has a bunch of kick ass phones but the more I look at the G1, it's not one of them at all. :(

This will happen soon enough. I know they had Android running with most functions working on an HTC Touch (the old one). There is a group working on bringing it to the Diamond right now. Should be pretty easy as I guess the Diamond and the G1 share 3 diff chips (CPU, GPU, and audio? I think)
The main problem they are having has to do with the Diamond being a VGA display. Haven't read up on it in a while though.

w00t. Got the tracking number for my G1. It shipped out of Louisville, KY today. Says the scheduled delivery date is 10/21, but it wouldn't be unheard of if it got here Monday. Generally UPS runs from Louisville to Atlanta over the weekend, then as long as it gets to ATL by around 5-6:00AM, it makes it to Columbus the same day.
Hell yeah.
