This morning I woke to find that my iTouch had about 20 gray pixels in the middle of the screen, I was bummed. Since then the gray pixels have spread in a horizontal line to each edge of the screen. I have no idea what is going on. Originally I thought it was hardware but I am not sure how a pixel becomes stuck and then sticks more around it. The growth is limited adjacent pixels and when it reached the edge the pixel above it did the same thing and started to come back across the screen. To answer the begged questions: No I have not dropped it, the screen is unmarred, my iTouch does not smoke, and I haven't exposed it to any extreme temperatures. I purchased it in April.

I looked online but couldn't find anything that quite described the condition I am seeing. Is there something I can do or am I just screwed? Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks in advance

Do? You can accept that you are screwed and need a repair.

The good news is that all apple products are covered by a 1 year warranty out of the box. Call Apple, or walk into an Apple store and mention that your pixels be dying.

The spreading of the dead pixels may have something to do with the touch screen....just a theory.

Take it into an Apple store and they'll probably give you a new one on the spot.

The LCD is busted and the liquid is spreading to the surrounding cells in the screen.

Basically, it's fucked. Time to get a new one.

It could be any number of causes that weren't your fault, mainly defective screen, or it's overheating internally and damaging the screen from the inside. Could be a short.

I'd see about making sure you get a total replacement with your warranty and not just service, because it's possible that if there's internal failure, a new screen could just wind up damaged again.

*sigh* I was afraid of that, now I have to go find an Apple store.
