Picked this up on the impulse sale as it's something i always meant to play but never had a comp really up to the job. So far it's been enjoyable, i'm as rubbish as i remember being at it but i just love the scale and the fact that it feels like a real RTS in terms of how it's you're over all troop movement and strategy rather than you're small scale quick key tactical skills that matter. I don't think i'll be touching online play as i was in the muiltplayer beta and as much as i just said quick keys and the like don't matter... that's against an AI human vs human i remember being very much about who could macro there build order the best... I'm someway in to the first campaign and finding it hard not to think as the voice actress as the major from ghost in the shell as i'm sure it's the same women heh story line is a bit meh but done well enough.

My own major complaint is just how damn techy the game is... i could run the game the first time i opened it until i changed the screen res and it crashed out. Then every other time told me i couldn't sort out direct 3d which was odd. Turns out that you need the gaming network thingy that comes with it open to have the game run. So after a few hours i quit and when i came back to it the game would either not start or get in to the menu before crashing out. When i did get an error message it was telling me it couldn't write to the temp files and thought it was lack of space. Which it wasn't.

So i went in to the user ap data to have a poke around and the only thing i could think of doing was to clear the cache which worked. Seems the cache file was 'read only' for some reason. I hope changing that means i can just start the game up next time rather than having to clear it out again.

So if you are going to buy this and have those problems n vista you need to start GPGNet (in the supcom folder) i don't even think you have to log in so you can just leave the log in screen open. If after the first time you play it's not working make sure to clear out the cache folder in the user aps data. I've also been running it as a admin so while i don't know if you need to do it it would be wise to try if nothing else works.

You actually don't have to start GPGNet to play the single player, that's only for the multiplayer. And I didn't have quite the problems you did. Patching it up though, that's a mess.

Overall, the game is one big tech demo. Graphics and the uber-far zoom make it stand out, but all three factions are largely the same, and your units die so quickly in battle that you can spend an hour building an army and lose it in less than 5 minutes.

Well ya that what i thought at first but unless i have the GPGnet client running i get an "direct 3d" error when starting the game. I only found the fix thanks to some random forum post i got with a bit of help from google. I think it may be a laptop only problem from what i've read about it, it just very odd.

Ya one of my main dislikes of the game was how each faction had the same kind of units and the only real difference comes in terms of the projectiles they use. While i agree it's annoying to loss a army you just spent ages building up it tends to mean that you attacked in the wrong way. It's oddly realistic in how you will get chewed up if you go against a well defended base head on. I tend to go for turtleing my base and then pushing out to use long range bombardment units and forward bases to attack while my ground force finds the weakest part of the base to hit. Finding a way to ferry my units towards the back of the base and hitting them that way works well.

In other words in terms of warfare it's built around it plays rather realistically which means some of the most effective tactics (against the AI at lest) are some what "unfun" and if you mess up a little bit you can get hugely punished for it... which isn't fun... but i've enjoyed it enough so far... easily getting my moneys worth

had the temp start up problem again... running in XP sp2 compatibility mode seems to fix it... for now at lest. I'm not taking anything for granted with this game

I have to especially agree with you on the patch issue. Christ. It is seriously one of the worst patch processes I've ever seen.

I've always liked the scale of the game, but the overall blandness just wore me out. Everything is the same. The sides look alike. They play alike. Their build orders are similar. The terrain looks completely generic.

Demigod is using the Sumpreme Commander engine and I have to say that it's fantastic so far.

i am looking forward to demigods... seems like they've found a way to make a really fun game from what people have been saying

I am enjoying the beta a lot, but my only concern is that there is a lack of content compared to DotA. It's nice to play a professionally built game with Stardock's constant support and tweaking, but so far, the free mod has a ton more stuff. As an example, there are three main characters in Demigod to choose from now, with a promised total of eight or nine in the full game. Compared to DotA, the pickings are pretty slim.

If they continually support it and add more characters that won't be so bad in the long run but if they don't it will be disappointment.

Can anyone confirm that your serial is tied your account?

Boo for bumping an old thread!

Now, onto the good stuff. If you're talking about GPGnet, then yes, it is tied.

Pretty sure you can. If I remember correctly, it works like SC and C&C do. You can have multiple accounts for the same serial, but only one can be logged in at once.

It sells from the Amazon Marketplace for about $4-5 and $shipping if you were looking for a reference.

Thank you Cappin. That makes more sense. People won't know my user name so i don't have to worry about my account being used.
