Impulse has Space Rangers 2: Complete for $4 right now (usually $40), and I know some of you picked it up.

Has anyone tried it yet? Impressions?

I bought the retail version. I really wasn't that impressed with the game. It seems like a glorified budget title, a very boring one, and so I uninstalled it in short order because it wasn't worth the risk of leaving Starforce on my system just to run it.

As a special prize, it still wound up causing problems with my DVD drive anyway.

Yikes, doesn't sound all that fun then.

$4 is nothing, but I don't want to bother with it if it isn't any good.

Meh. It was okay. I picked it up on earlier and had a bit of fun with it. It's a lot like X3, but seen from an overhead view rather than with fancy ship views. It does look very budget-title-ish, so unless you have a thing for space trading, it might put you off.

I'm having fun with it.

Good news is that the Impulse version doesn't have Starforce...the bad news is that I tried playing without the tutorial and was immediately lost as to what to do.

I'll give it another go soon, but at $4...I really don't mind if it only entertains me for an hour or so.

I picked it up... i've played it a bit before... not amamzing really but at the price i thought i'd give it a go and dive in to it when i've got no other games to play. I think if you're in the right mood and start getting in to it it should be enjoyable... it's a 2d space sim type of game so lots of trading and all that sort of stuff.

I haven't had time to play it yet, I bought it yesterday and as soon as I'm done with this paper about the Junius Manuscript I'll give it a go! I don't really care whether it looks like a budget title or not, personally, since I picked it up at budget price. X-Play gave it a decent review way back when, if that means anything - that's the only reason I remembered its name.

I bought it a while ago when I had some discount thing at stardock, and I like it. The different parts play like a mix of different games, but are generally good. I find the ground combat fun and the semi-turn-based space combat is a neat way to do it. The text quests are also a cool idea, though they can be frustrating if you mess up and have to start them over a few times. I'm also just a sucker for all the ways to upgrade little ships. The game might not be for everyone, but it was worth it for me at $15 and I'd buy it in a heartbeat at $4!

I did pick up the $4 Impulse version, haven't installed it yet. Bill Harris of Dubious Quality (a blog I enjoy quite a bit, Bill used to run the Gone Gold website for those who remember that) has only good things to say about it (http://dubiousquality.blogspot.com/2008/12/space-rangers-2-expansion399.html), apparently.

I love the way the ship parts have variable stats and random additive qualities. It's almost like Diablo loot in that respect.

Gone Gold? Wow, that's nostalgia right there.

I still reflexively start typing gonegold.com into my URL bar sometimes.

I came here to whole heartedly endorse this game. It is great once you get it running. And there was DRM on it a couple years ago which sucked... HARD. Despite that, the actual game is awesome. So much to do.

Well damn, now I sort of wish I had picked the game up. I'm glad so many of you are enjoying it.

Man, I miss that site! That was one of the first places where I got attached to an web-based community. Hung around in different Usenet newsgroups for years.
