I would like to say that I'm hereby renouncing all my skepticism/criticism for the new Prince of Persia game as I have just returned after playing the game for a (fun) hour and find it to be teh w1nz.
The acrobatics (aside from a few moves like the roof run) are definitely NOT QTE like and the game doesn't play itself. Hold that thought right there, lock it in a box, chain it and throw it into the sea. This is definitely a Prince of Persia game, with just a fuck-tonne of moves added that end up saving your ass a lot of times... making the game easier quite a bit.
The visuals are top notch, and are only marred by random block placements and flat textures here and there, but the game usually has a beautiful vista or two that you can watch and drop your jaw for visible most of the time.
I'm playing the game on Vista 64 with an 8800GT, Core 2 Duo and 2 gigs of RAM and it runs butter smooth (Cutscenes are 100+FPS at times on max settings, 1280x1024). For those worried about not playing with mouse and keyboard (which isn't clunky, btw)... the game fully supports direct input controllers. That means that it supports a lot more than just an Xbox 360 controller, you can play it on a PS2 pad as well (with analog sensitivity and whatnot).
Too all those who hate the new prince, I can see where that comes from... the Prince sounds like Rafael from the TMNT cartoons and although his lines are well written and okay-ishly delivered, the voice chosen for the character definitely doesn't suit him. Some other criticisms include a few unwanted babysitting elements in the game such as the blocking icon appearing during combat and (according to Vyzov) scratch markings on every wall that you have to wall-run on.
Anyway, the game is fun... it hasn't sacrificed the PoP feel and is definitely my new nominee for GoTY. Screw haters.
