Sins, nothing else even comes close.

I've spent more time with Sins than Valkyria at this point, but Valkyria is entertaining me so much I had to vote for it. Plus, my PC has been dead for some time so Sins is a distant, albeit fond, memory.

Sins all the way.

I played Sins... I liked Sins... but I have to throw my vote behind Civ Rev. I have been playing the heck out of the game on both 360 and DS.

Valkyria Chronicles.
From what i've played of Civ and Valkyria, I'm leaning more towards Valkyria. Mind you that could be due to my only really having played the demo for Civ so once I finally buckle and get the full game my opinion might waver, but as of now I have to tilt my hand slightly in Valkyria's favor.

Valkyria Chronicles, though Sins is also fantastic. Just a little too hardcore for my tastes.

I guess any game can be a nominee in more than one category, then? (Advance Wars)
My vote is for Valkyria Chronicles.
Of the games nominated, I've played Valkyria, Spore, Colonization, and the demo for Civ Rev. I haven't played Advance Wars or SoaSE, but have considered them. I've held off on SoaSE this long, as I'm far more familiar with turn-based strategy than real-time. But it receives so much praise around here, I'll probably try it when I find it on sale for the right price.Valkyria Chronicles, though Sins is also fantastic. Just a little too hardcore for my tastes. And this. I'd guess it is a bit more "hardcore" than the strategy games I'm used to.
Valkyria is really the odd game out, when you compare the gameplay and story (or lack thereof) of these games. Would have been nice to see Disgaea 3 up there, but I think all of the nominees are significant.

Sins of a Solar Empire all the way. Easily my favorite strategy game this year.
I'm also going to go ahead and say that Sins is my Game of the Year, as well. I've played it more than anything else this year, and I will be playing it for a long time to come.
Whoa, no complaints about the nominees yet. That's a first!
I'm not going to bother with a user Coggies if there is no (or very little complaint). Personally, I think it is really a two-horse race anyway. . . Sins or VP.

Well, I was looking for Kane's Wrath or Red Alert 3... That co-op in RA3 is revolutionary.

Yeah, given how much complaining we all did over the first several polls, I think it's only fair to give credit where it's due. The editor's have done a much better job picking the contestants for these last two polls. Good work guys.

I will say that the whole empire tree or whatever that thing is called is brilliant. I was playing something else recently (Spore, I think) and was wishing it had the galactic management that Sins did.

The empire tree in Sins is indeed really great. I was thrown off by it at first, but now I couldn't live without it.
It's been a few months since I last played Sins. I need to get back to that game. I finally installed Impulse last weekend and updated the game to the latest version. I wonder when the expansion is coming out?
Do you actually own the game Spigot? If so we should play it online!

I'm looking at the DVD right now. I think it's still installed on this hunk of junk...
I don't know if I ever played with you back when the game first came out. Voodoo and a couple other guys were the ones I played with for a few weeks until I got busy with other stuff and missed a few nights and it went on the back burner. But I'll have to reinstall it and play a match with ya!

I played with Voodoo, Shadowstorm, and a few others. We had a regular night going for a while, but I ran into some snafus and missed a few matches. I think everyone stopped playing a short time after that, but I could be wrong. I'd definitely like to play some matches with you, so let me know!

We may indeed have played a game or two together. I actually did pretty well, although Voodoo trumps us all. He was scary-good at Sins.

Dude - I still can't stop playing Civ:Rev! It gets my vote!
That game is crack! I only rented it but beat all the civilizations on Easy. I was ready to do more but realized I would spend to much time for a game I was only renting. I'm afraid to buy it...it will own me again :o. I only regret not renting in time to play with Mags online...he would of enjoyed destroying me...
Valkyria Chronicles for me. It's about time it got a mention in one of these lists :)

Be still my heart...a game that is to hardcore for Spigot? Next there will be a game that is to obscure! The world is ending...

My vote goes for Civ Rev. And I only tried it on Fits' high recommendation. I guess I owe it to him for my addiction...

Be still my heart...a game that is to hardcore for Spigot? Next there will be a game that is to obscure! The world is ending...Hey, you should know by now that I don't view myself as hardcore, at least not in the sense that a lot of people do. I'm a lot less about the challenge than I am about having fun and seeing new ideas and things in games. That's probably why I can overlook some flawed gameplay ideas if the concept is neat and why I'll come down like a sack of bricks on a game that is difficult merely for the sake of being difficult.
Sins is very good, but besides being a pretty indepth/hardcore game, there's also the fact that I'm pretty burnt out on RTS games at the moment. I've been playing them pretty regularly since Dune 2 and sometime a few years back I just said, "Enough!" and haven't really played them very much since. And this is coming from a guy who had to pick up his wife (then girlfriend) for a visit the same day that Red Alert came out and wasn't sure which I was more excited to see... :)
Turn-based strategy games though... I'm all over them these days. Mmmm...
And yes. Voodoo was/is a god at Sins. I was always grateful that the game would crash before he could bring his overwhelming armada to bear on my pitiful fleet.

Do you ever play TBS games on the PC Spigot? I'm a big fan of the Age of Wonders, Civilization, and Galactic Civilization games. If you have any of those we should play some games...along with Sins. :)
I really need a buddy to play those games with online. I'm not about to jump into any of those with the general public, as I'd probably get my ass handed to me.

I yearn for a true Master Of Magic 2. Sigh.
I play a lot of the TBS games on the PC (or used to) but I rarely play against people. But that's just the way I usually am. But if you're up for a fun skirmish here and there, I'm game!

Well you often say you don't have "skillz" not hardcore. I'll add that to your non-vocabulary :). I actually said it, well besides harassing you, that's always fun...because it's rare you will play a game then not like it. So when I see it...I have to be my usual azz and make that observation :D. And you and Mags will have to explain the allure of RTS games to me.

Of course, my personal favourite RTS of all time is probably Myth 2... Oh Bungie, will you ever go back and do a proper sequel to that game (Myth 3 doesn't count because it was a buggy POS!).
And yeah. It is rare that I'll play a game and outright hate it... which makes my pathological hatred of Blue Dragon all the more notable... and I sunk 45 hours of my life into that piece of crap.
Sigh. I did it again. Spigot: Able to turn ANY thread into a Blue Dragon bashing thread.

I love building up an empire more than anything. The empire building is my favorite part of strategy games. There's just something about it that really hooks me, and I've sunk more hours into TBS and RTS games than almost any other genre.

THey can't. Take2 owns the Myth series, it's why 3 was shit, because it wasn't even a Bungie game, it was farmed out to some shitass Take2 team.
I miss the days when Bungie made good games. Sure Marathon and Myth were hard as fuck, too hard for me in the case of Myth in fact, but they were still brilliant games over all, and much more impressive and innovative than anything they've produced since they got bought up by MS. Hell, even the pre-buyout trailers of Halo looked a damn sight cooler and more impressive than the game they actually released.
I had high hopes they'd turn things around once MS let them go, but really, most all the original Myth and MArathon teams are gone, and they still seem quite far up MS' ass for all that big talk after the buyback.

I'm right there with you guys, as far as Myth goes. It's one of the series that I'm sad is no longer around. We can get a new Call of Duty, Tony Hawk, Halo and all of this other junk, but no Myth? :(
