Courtesy of Joystiq (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/joystiq-live-from-nintendos-fall-media-summit/), we have a fly on the wall of Nintendo of America's own presser today, with similar announcements to what Nintendo of Japan revealed last night. However, one particular item is noteworthy to US Nintendo fans. The Club Nintendo system will finally be coming stateside.

"We know that there have been lots of people in the US that have been lusting after these products for a long time." Just like in Japan, consumers will be able to collect points by purchasing Nintendo products and then trade them in for goodies. It's coming to the States "by the end of the year."

What kind of swag are we talking about here? And can this be purchased with regular cash as well?

This is ENORMOUSLY overdue. Japan and Europe have had some semblance of Club Nintendo for years.

This was some of the latest stuff: a wii compatible super famicom controller and a 2 cd mario galaxy soundtrack. They've also had things like exclusive ds games. As far as I know you can't purchase stuff with normal cash.

For instance, CN members in Japan currently have the ability to snatch up a special shiny platinum and gold metal-plated DS.

Jebus, it's about time.

EDIT: Of course, I'm guessing that all their products I've bought in the past won't be usable for points...

Good of them to do this as soon as they stop releasing things I care about forever.

This makes me so incredibly happy. I have wanted Club Nintendo to be brought over for ages. I buy most every Nintendo game that comes out (what can I say, they make good games), and I also register them. I've come close to importing some of the Japanese stuff, actually. I can't wait!

Nice, I've been jealous of the stuff they had in Japan for a while now.

About damn time! They've given us the option of registering our games for years with little no benefits. I think the only thing I've ever gotten from registering my games with them was the special Zelda stylus and a box of rainbow styli.

A bit more info on all the games we've registered with Nintendo over the years, from an IGN interview (http://wii.ign.com/articles/915/915864p1.html):

IGN: The actual pin numbers have been out there for two or three years now. Will it be retroactive to people who have taken advantage of the website, or will it just be inclusive of people going forward?

Cammie Dunaway: No, you will be able to bring over some of the points, but we’re still figuring out how it’s going to work. It’s not necessarily going to be all of them. So, there appears to be some hope that at least some of the games we've already registered with Nintendo will count towards the new Club Nintendo program. I'm curious to hear more.

I hope they get it all sorted out because first and foremost this is a customer loyalty program, and I've bought a metric ton of Nintendo products in the past few years. I'd hate for all of that to count for nothing with them.

I hate the idea of registering games, but love the idea of getting awesome Nintendo stuff. It's a conundrum.

are you worried about marketing crap? If you register and get awesome Nintendo stuff - and they do something nice warranty wise when something odd happens to your game, what's to lose?
