I saw that a week or two ago...and wondered how Tarble could possibly be Vegeta's brother. He looks like he's a teenager, yet their race died a lot longer ago than that...so who had him? King Vegeta's ghost? :p

That sounds like the only feasible plan. My buddy is a complete DB/DBZ fanatic. He'll buy or rent it for sure, then I can at least see it. But I refuse to part with my own money for it.

Hell, I never even watched an episode of DB until he was my roommate...then I just didn't have a choice. He forced me to learn the entire history and character profiles of DB against my will. :D

Now, I actually enjoy it. Never would have tried on my own though.

Huh? Goku could be Asian, but he could also be a really tan white kid. Anime in general makes characters look white. It's gotten better in the last decade.

I don't like this new trend of sticking talentless white kids in genres reserved for badasses, usually of Asian descent.

I bit my tongue while watching Forbidden Kingdom...after it was over I turned to my wife and said "You know...this movie was great...except for the parts the main character was in." Ruining a Jackie Chan/Jet Li team-up movie with an annoying white kid who also can't fight at all...for fucking shame. :p

If they found a white guy who was a skilled fighter and a decent actor, I might not care. But you can't stick some guy who already looks out of place in a movie about fighting that can't fight. Seriously.

I will agree that they dragged episodes way too long. Episodes that were filled with huffing and puffing and not much fighting, or Goku charging a spirit bomb for what felt like weeks on end.

I think this is going to be so much worse. It really doesn't translate to live action all that well.

Thats what killed it for me. It wasnt that the story or character sucked. Its that it took Goku 4 episodes to run that damn snake way to get back and fight, and another 2 to arrive at the battle by cloud. Too much filler in any series is unforgiveable in my opinion. I heard they wanted to synchronize the release of the manga and anime so they stretched the anime out, but in that case they should have just waited for the manga.

Condensing that into 2 hours could make it SO much better.

I think Zombie Bruce Lee vs Jackie Chan as Goku will be much more fitting. Jackie Chan got the looks to be a clumsy guy yet can reveal hidden strength. Plus who's better to make a zombified Bruce Lee laugh? :p

I disliked the idea of this ever since I saw the cast, and the trailers just prove me right. It doesn't look good enough to attract a new audience, doesn't have any big name box office actors to attract their fans, and more or less alienates fans of the show.

I would of even preferred a CGI movie in the vein of the recent TMNT one, at least kids and older fans could relate to it, not to mention doing it that way would allow you to keep in the character likenesses, blasts etc.

The only way I can see this making some kind of money is if really young kids convince their parents to take them to it just because of the name 'Dragonball', which will probably happen.

DBZ suffered heavily, especially in the later sagas from this.

I call it the dbz constipation. They spend 10 episodes leading up to a fight, where everyone stands around and goes:
"*Hyuuurk* His power level!*gyaaaah* *hyurk*"
While sweat drips off their heads and they shake. It got really bad around the Cell saga. It always looked to me like they were trying to take a shit. Then the fight itself would be over in less than one episode and they'd resume the constipation. I say it was bad during the cell saga because they did it when he first appeared, again when he went 2nd form (imperfect) and yet again when he became perfect.

At least when he went Super-Perfect against Gohan they were already fighting so they didn't have much time to fit another one in.

Those are great choices, especially Li as Vegeta. He always has that "serious business" face going when he fights, and the personality would seem to fit.
Besides the fact he's a brilliant fighter and could do the part justice.

I would cast Jackie Chan as Master Roshi. He's always been able to pull of that "silly hero" well. Case in point:
