Monday’s episode is now available for download (http://ingamechat.net/audio/IGC20081208.mp3).

Never let it be said that “the Mondays” aren’t a true and real condition suffered often at the end of a strong weekend - never mind how much we resent having it pointed out. We’ve got a low-strung vibe as we ease into the program tonight, but good conversation always shakes out the cobwebs and lively banter often casts a light into the dimmest corners of our personalities, the only concern is in making it happen. Of course, sometimes “what did you play?” matters a good bit less than “what do you think?” We have our complement of both, so I suppose the Mondays weren’t so bad this time after all.

We’re clearly very positive about the new Prince of Persia, but the caveat is that it happens to suit our very particular tastes. We can imagine any number of justifiably hateful reactions to its (perhaps) offensive difficulty, and to its general disdain for combat in favor of intricate puzzle/platforming. But we believe it to be in the best spirit of what the Mechner himself intended, and we commend it for delivering a companion character who is, in almost every case, a joy and a benefit, where she could easily have become the achilles’ heel.

We would also like to point out that this is the final week of the Colony of Gamers Child’s Play charity drive. Charitable giving is at an understandable premium this year, but for those who can and who choose to give through our preferred avenue this season, donations and raffle entries will end on Monday the 15th, so that the donations can be sent off to Child’s Play and drawings can be held for prize winners.

I forget where, but I once heard an interview where they asked the publisher why they insisted on releasing their game during the holiday season. Especially since the game in question could not compete with the bigger titles. The publisher simply answered that becuase of the number of poeple shopping during that time of year, that it was "better to be number 20 in the holidays than it is to be number 1 in the summer."

I really wish I could remember exactly where I heard that!

Oh, and great show!

As Christmas rolls around, if I may make a suggestion for one of your holiday musical choices:

Carol of the Belmonts (http://www.doctoroctoroc.com/8BitJesus/04%20Carol%20of%20the%20Belmonts.mp3) (MP3 link), which is in my opinion the best of the all-really-quite-good chiptunes in 8 Bit Jesus (http://www.doctoroctoroc.com/video-game-inspired-music/8-bit-jesus-new-christmas-chip-tune-album/) by Doctor Octoroc.

I'm pretty sure there's at least one or two Castlevania fans in the IGC cast, and the blending of Konami's distinctive style with Carol of the Bells is really, really great.

Or at least I think so. Hopefully you'll agree. ;)

And, of course, great episode as always. :)

Nice call, Ravenlock. I've been loving that song myself!

Upon listening to them all a few times, I think We Three Konami (http://www.doctoroctoroc.com/8BitJesus/01%20We%20Three%20Konami.mp3) is probably my 2nd favorite. That one holds up very well to repeated listening. The Legend of Noel (http://www.doctoroctoroc.com/8BitJesus/08%20The%20Legend%20of%20Noel.mp3) also makes me happy simply because I have deep affection for the Zelda music (and the ending is great), but it's not quite as faithful to the song it's riffing as the other two are.

In short, I loves me some videogame music. :D

EDIT: Totally unrelated, but you guys on the show seem to generally be fans of the new Prince of Persia. The PC version is on sale for crazy cheap (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?p=106471#post106471) from Toys R Us right now, so if that version appeals to you, I figured you should be told. ;)
