Anyone still playing EQ or EQ2? Good news for you! Station Cash is now live (http://clockworkgamer.com/2008/12/09/station-cash-initial-functionality-overview/). You can buy experience multipliers and other goodies directly from the store with real money.

The potions are all experience bonus potions. The Tier I and II potions last for 4 hours, while the Tier III lasts for 2 hours. The Tier I give 10% bonus, the Tier II give 25% bonus, while the Tier III give 50%.

Note that one unit of SC is equal to $.01.

Awesome. Why not just sell an instant Level Up Potion? How about a full kit of top-grade items? Heck, just go all out SOE, and sell an already max level template character. Why bother beating around the bush?

They already had the Station Exchange servers for a few years, this is the logical extension of that. And it seemed to me that the game was steadily moving towards a "hit the Max level ASAP" mentality already when I quit at the beginning of this year. So why not make more money while moving in this direction?

(Disclaimer: These are the reasons I quit, so I don't actually agree in any way. :p)

I applauded the Station Exchange idea. It was a neat way of cutting out the eBay middleman and claiming the percentage on a trade that was going to happen anyway between players, legal or not.

The MMO, game period, that can balance free to play, micro payed, and subscription by making every player feel empowered and see value in their decision; that game will be gigantic.

StarCraft 2, Battlefield, may help bridge some of that gap. But games need more ways to make money.

Meh, nearly all MMOs have some kind of micro-raping going on. The City of Heroes team has begun holding back the best new costume parts for premium packs that cost $10 a piece. World of Warcraft charges $25 to transfer a single character from one server to another (something I'll probably have to pony up for soon if I want to play with my friends). Ultima Online brought in the concept of Premium Characters (characters that start out with more skill points) years ago, though I can't recall what they charged for that particular service.

I hate it, but that is just how the game is played these days.

You could just start a new WoW character. Moving content accross servers is not like flipping a switch.

Yeah, I'll go ahead and do that; maybe I'll get to Outland by the time they're raiding in Northrend.
