Fils-Aime: Nintendo of America Won’t Release DSi For A While (http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/10/02/fils-aime-nintendo-of-america-wont-release-dsi-for-a-while/)

At the kick-off presentation for Nintendo’s two-day event in San Francisco, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime has told reporters that the newly announced Nintendo DSi won’t be arriving in the U.S. until “well into calendar year 2009.”
Citing strong sales of the current DS Lite, he downplayed the need to introduce the DSi in America any time soon. The NoA president said that DS sales in the U.S. have a ways to go before they reach the penetration in Japan (where, he did not note, sales had slowed as those of the PSP have picked up).
More from the Nintendo event as we get it….

I bet I can guess what month it comes too....starts with an N probably.

Really? A whole year later? I would have thought they would get this out there and push the downloadable games ASAP.

Although DS Lite sales are currently strong, it seems to me like they would slow down once people hear about the DSi and decide to wait for it.

I'm really interested in the DSi because I still have a Phatty and never got around to buying a Lite because I was sure they would release something new as soon as I did. I can wait however long it takes for it to come out here, but I'm tempted to look into possibly importing one.

Another reason that it might take a while to come out in the U.S. is that there seemed to be a lot of supply issues for the Lite, and I assume it will take a while to produce enough of the new model to sell here as well as Japan.

Edit: By supply issues, I meant they were hard to find in stores for a long time, and not that Nintendo couldn't actually produce more if they had wanted to.
