View Full Version : Fracture

So, I found a review on Team Xbox (http://reviews.teamxbox.com/xbox-360/1586/Fracture/p1/) (a week early), and while they have a few complaints, they still score it pretty solid 7.8. Reading the review, it seems the complaints are leveled at... shooters in general. Seriously, I haven't played a first- or third-person shooter yet without some of those problems. But whatever, I enjoyed the demo and the single player sounds like it'll last a bit, so I'll try and pick this up off Goozex or something.

Hmmm...I thought the embargo didn't lift until tomorrow.

I'll play it! Anything 6 or above is good enough for me. I've found too many games in the 7s being ridiculously good. Demo was okay, so this will be a fun rental for me.

I'll buy this game. Not day one.

Fuck embargoes! Seriously, the game industry is plagued by them more than any other industry.
Anyways, this game looked incredibly average. The terrain thing seems like a gimmick that would get old quick.

I think it'll be the next Time Shift. It has a good solid gimmick. I heard the story is ok, but not something that will stick with you later. You have some people like Adam Blue that speaks highly of it. And everyone who'll trash it cause it's not an AAA quality game. When it hits $30 or $20 bucks, I'll find out if I was wrong or right.

Bah, from what I played of the demo it just felt like another mediocre 3rd person shooter, but as usual, with a gimmick. But a friend is renting it so I'll fly by his place to play.

I liked the Rocket Launcher that was more like a ground Torpedo... the terrain changing didn't get me going that much. Maybe if I could do a wave of hills... I would have liked it more. I kind of hope the tech for Fracture gets mixed with SW:TFU to make the ultimate gimmick game.

I could tell you how I'm liking/disliking it, but we'll have a review hopefully by next week. The opening of the site kind of pushed back a lot of game playing, but I think I have a good solid idea of what I think of the final game.
Embargos aren't really the bane of the industry. The true bane is the "exclusive reviews" that some places get. Embargos actually make it an even playing field for all the sites out there.

You know I nailed it. Time Shift 2, or better yet, Ground Shift.

Nick (bap) and I were talking about it today trying to lay the groundwork of what would be said in the review. Now remember, we liked TimeShift, but when I told him another title I think a light went off in his head about how much the story and overall "feel" of the gameplay in Fracture seems to have been copied from.
Have fun...
BTW...I think this game comes out on the 6th or 7th, so we hope to have a review up by then so we can help if you're on the fence about the game.

I was thinking this was a Shadowrun want to be a while back. Two separate sides waring about silly stuff.

Yeah...more Lemmings gameplay mechanics!
I haven't seen much on this game, because I haven't been looking, but I love gimmick-games like this. Because they're short, you can experience awesome firefights, and never have to play them again.

I tried out the demo, and while I barely made it thru the weapons training, this game just wasn't grabbing me at all. I may give it another shot down the road, but with everything else coming out this fall I'll pass for now.

I wish the demo had been a multiplayer demo, it seems like that'll be where most of the fun is. I really enjoyed messing around with the terrain deformation.

Reading of the reviews and hearing about a vehicle that can make it's own ramp (with the terrain deformation), totally sold me. Not enough to buy brand new, unless I find some money on the ground, but I will pick it up at some point.

The one thing I am very afraid of not having in the review is any multiplayer experience with it. Given we got the retail version early there aren't a lot of people out there to play with.
I may update whatever review we have later with multiplayer impressions once there are actually people to play with. I am VERY interested in how multiplayer is presented in this game honestly.

Can you at least say whether you feel its great/horrible/average before you drop the review? I'd guess average with a fun gameplay element (which doesn't make a bad game, to be sure) but I just know what I've read so far.

There are other reviews out there. Check them out as well.

Definitely rent it is my suggestion. I just wrote my first draft. If this clues you in on my feelings on this game, this is one of the first games in a long time I did not finish because of how frustrating and mundane it was. Usually when I hit a wall I can leave for a bit, come back refreshed and push through it. Here I kept hitting the wall over and over again to the point of frustration.
Even the gimmick isn't all that great. In fact, I totally forgot about it as I was going through firefights. Things move too quickly during firefights to really set up mounds well because enemies come at you from all sides. Then you have to figure out how to shoot at them without climbing the hill and making yourself a target.
Bad story, bad voice acting and an average gameplay experience honestly.
Review should go up on Monday.

It's worth about $30 though. This $60 price tag doesn't help some games.

It's Lucas Arts, wait for it to be 10 bucks. Between this and Force Unleashed, I see some ideas and gimmiks that would have been great, if they were polished and fleshed out...but they closed the Games Division.

Now that I'm a freshly into Gamefly I can successfully say this'll probably be on my Que. I played the demo and was intrigued by the gimmick they had going. Although, I can see how it wouldn't last very long in the long run.
Wasn't too impressed with it.

Fuck embargoes! Seriously, the game industry is plagued by them more than any other industry.
Embargos give not only give a level playing field to multiple writers, but they give people breathing room when they need time to write the 10 stories they may have in the week of November. A lot of info is decimated at once to a whole slew of people. Embargoes are a way to keep the playing field even.
Then again, there really doesn't seem to be a great way to punish people who break them.
I wish the demo had been a multiplayer demo, it seems like that'll be where most of the fun is. I really enjoyed messing around with the terrain deformation.
During the preview, I don't think I played the same level twice. There were times in the game where the terrain changed so much, I felt like I was on a completely different map.
