Fuck! I just thought of something - GRID should have been included.

I gotta give this one to Burnout, at least for the fantastic support that the developers have provided.

That would have been possible if Sports games and Driving games weren't combined into one category. Just a thought. :p

Wow, that was hard. BURNOUT was a blast, and I completed it 100%. But there was a better game on that list:

MLB POWER PROS. Sports-as-RPG is an idea I've been kicking around for years, and this game does a fantastic job of bringing it to life. We don't dream of being a TEAM, we dream of being a PLAYER, and MLBPP gives you that, mixed in with a goofy manga sensibility that suprisingly works.

Plus, without BURNOUT, I'd still play the 360 a ton. MLBPP is the only reason I've dusted off the Wii in a full year. For justifying an entire console (don't tell me it's on the PS2, I can't hear you, lalalalalala), MLBPP gets my vote.

Why do you have racign and sports together? NHL 09 should be on there as its hands down the best sports game of the year.

I'm going to say Burnout. Truth be told, I almost said Pure despite only playing the demo (if I had the full game, I might vote differently), cause it was that fun. But Burnout was just so big, with alot of stuff to do and great support from the devs.

Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 didn't make the cut? That makes me a sad panda.

So, I had to vote Burnout.

Also... there are moderators here?

That would have been possible if Sports games and Driving games weren't combined into one category. Just a thought. :pWe could also make a separate category for each individual game, that way no one gets left out

That's so funny...

It's just stupid to combine these two categories when there were a few games in both genres that would have inspired much voting.

Mario Kart, hands down. How many other titles can just be remade over and over again, still be essentially the same game you've been playing for years, and STILL sell a ton of copies.

I agree. Sports and driving really don't go together. To say that Mario Kart or Motorstorm are the same genre as Madden or Tiger Woods is just idiotic. Hell, by that definition you should have added the new Banjo game to this list.....

I can't see the sense in combining sports and driving, myself, but since I play very few sports games the obvious choice for me was Burnout.

Best Racing Game - GRID
Best Sports Game - Pro Evolution Soccer 2009

...or Fifa 09, you know the best selling sports game in the whole world.
I liked PES's Become A Legend more thought.

What the hell is Pure? And Mario Kart? Wtf!!

Easily Burnout Paradise for me, but it's worth mentioning that Pure is a fantastic over the top stick style racer. If it had more depth and some more variation in the tricks, it would have won for me.

I voted for the only one I played: Burnout. That Motorstorm: PR demo was pretty damn sweet, though, and I will have the game soon I hope.

I want to vote for NCAA Football '09. They fixed a lot of my problems with it, and implemented online dynasty (which has significantly expanded the experience of it).

But I can't.

I forgot to add that I voted for Burnout Paradise. I haven't played anything other than the demo, as I'm not a big racing fan, but it's definitely one of the highlights of the year. Criterion has done an excellent job supporting the title - more than any other console developer has ever done IMHO.

I'm curious about this. Have they really supported a title more than any other developer?

I only bring this up because of one glaring exception....Rock Band.

Harmonix has done a great job putting up weekly Rock Band tracks, but Criterion has added content that has actually changed the way their game plays. The addition of bikes and a day/night cycle have really changed the feel of Paradise City in way that a track pack doesn't reach.

That glorious update also happened to be free, something that most track packs are not.

I guess I hadn't thought of Rock Band.

Criterion has definitely released more FREE updates than any other console developer.

Putting sports in with arcade racing games like Burnout Paradise, Mario Kart Wii and Motorstorm is unfair to real sports games and there should be a separate category. Also, Tiger Woods and MLB Power Pros 2008 are the best you could do for the sports portion of it?

Pathetic.

I was thinking the same thing. NHL 09 is easily the best sports game this year hands down. That poll is null and void without it.

Also, the driving games should have their own category.

I agree with Sandman, this poll's "sports" game portion is pathetic. Kill this poll with fire, and start a new one that includes real sports like Football(American and what the rest of the world plays), Hockey, Baseball, Tennis, Golf, and the like. Then Start a poll for racing games.

Can we re-do this? Put racing games in one category, and sports games in another? They're each easily big enough to have their own awards categories. Plus there's a ton of missing choices. I'm disappointed.

Oh cheers to that. I played the shit out of Wipeout. I would take Wipeout over Burnout now that I've already voted. I completely forgot about Wipeout too. That should surely be on the list.

FIFA 09 is the correct answer, but the poll doesn't include it as an option for some reason. A technical glitch?

Grid not included? Fail.

I voted for Burnout (which I knew would get the most votes out of the choices anyway) but I would've much rather have voted for Grid which "felt" better in racing.

You're calling a game with 400-some hours of gameplay a "demo"?

Well...I was just told over and over that it wasn't the full game and that's why the feature list sucked on it (even though you had to pay forty bucks).

Just wanting to be clear here.

Wow, what a weak poll for a sports section. There are easily several sports titles that should be included on this list. I hope you guys are considering another poll because this is just wrong. NHL 09 would be my top pick for best sports game of the year.

MLB Power Pros and Tiger Woods? You've got to be kidding me.

Either way, I ended up voting for Burnout...was pretty good from the sessions that I had with it.
