I'm proud to announce that Co-Optimus (http://www.co-optimus.com) has teamed up with the Games for Windows team to bring you the very first Games for Windows Co-Op Night. Like our Xbox Live Co-Op Nights (http://www.co-optimus.com/tag/co-op%20game%20night), we'll be focusing on one game a month to help promote co-op gaming! Our first game will be Gears of War.

Joining GFW co-op night is simple, just sign into Gears of War for Windows on December 9th after 7:30PM Eastern and look for other co-op gamers! There will be plenty of people wanting to play. Alternatively you can look for gamertag co optimus (http://live.xbox.com/en-US/profile/profile.aspx?pp=0&GamerTag=co%20optimus)!

More info can be found Right Here (http://www.co-optimus.com/event/106/Games_for_Windows_Co-Op_Night_for_December_-_Gears_of_War.html).

Well you gotta start somewhere. I hopped on this a few weeks ago to check out the number of people playing, and surprisingly there was quite a few.

The way I see it, there may be some people that picked this up and never finished it, or never got a chance to play co-op and this is an opportunity to for them to find someone easily.

I think you would've been better off waiting for Dawn of War 2. ;)

All that Microsoft sponsorship makes things rather difficult to do much on the PC these days. :D

The good thing is it doesn't have to be a Games for Windows Live title, just a Games for Windows title.

And yes, Dawn of War II is going to be huge. :)

As long as I get to promote co-op, I'm happy.

Well, if you're not limited to just Live titles that opens you up to a fair bit more at least. I think Civ4: Beyond the Sword was a GFW release, though getting that one working online is a nightmare sadly.

Company of Heroes is GFW too I believe.

Well, at the moment, there are only the two (that I can think of) GFW games that are co-op, this and Universe at War. Red Alert 3 has the co-op integrated near perfectly, but doesn't carry the GFW badge.

There aren't that many GFW games that have co-op. Company of Heroes would be cool, but it would really just be skirmishes and not any kind of campaign. Sins of a Solar Empire would be similar, but the games either wouldn't be finished, or would last too long. Supreme Commander and World In Conflict are also cool.

There's also always Kane and Lynch and Hellgate: London too

We've got some other PC-centric stuff in the works as well. Trust us, we understand the limitations of GFW.

Well here's the list (http://www.co-optimus.com/search.php?advanced=true&system=4&gfw=y&sortby=relevance) of Co-Op titles we came up with that are GFW Branded.

We're doing GTA IV next. After that it's up in the air.

Clearly the solution to me at least is not limiting oneself to GFW only releases. Otherwise I think you're always going to be stuck giving the PC every bit the short shrift MS themselves have been giving it since the 360 came out.

There's a hell of a lot more than 6 co-op games on the PC. ;)

Oh, don't worry. I just said to Mike today we need to organize our Steam Co-Op night. At least, that's the platform we'll use for promoting it (the Co-Optimus group) - I guess it doesn't technically need to be a Steam game.

And I'm still trying to figure something out for the PS3.

The Wii...well Nintendo can go fuck itself if they think I"m gonna try to do something with Friend Codes.

Yeah, as someone for whom the DS, and then the Wii, are the next inqueue, in fact the only planned console purchases this gen, I'm a little annoyed by the online system as well. That is something I'm not looking forward to.

Someone needs to come up with some kind of IP tunneling technique for the ad-hoc mode on the DS, sort of like you had to do for online play on the Xbox 1 for system link only games.

Warp Pipe 2.0 would be awesome.

Are the GFWL friends the same as 360 ones or not, how do I add friends to my GFWL account?
