View Full Version : The "new" Pikmin game?

I just saw this (http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/pikmin-to-be-remade-on-wii-first-of-gamecube-masterpiece-seri/) over at Joystiq. I remember hearing Miyamoto mention there being a new Pikmin game in the works for the Wii back at E3, but this is the only Pikmin related news since then. While I certainly wouldn't mind playing the original Pikmin with Wii controls, this better not be the new Pikmin game they were talking about. Nintendo needs to stop being lazy and spend their time making new games for us.

I strongly suspect that this is the new game they were talking about, but obviously I can't say for sure. I don't think Nintendo is necessarily being lazy, but I would like to see something new as well. The new Punch Out could be pretty good but honestly I'm ready for another Nintendo staple like Zelda or Mario or the like. I wonder if we'll see another one of those before their next platform, though.

I'd be okay with it, since I never got to play the original Pikmin, but I could see how this could be annoying for more dedicated Nintendo fans.

Zelda is supposed to be in the works. There has only been one mario game per platform since the NES, however.

Miyamoto's Pikmin has to got to be a new game. It just doesn't make much sense for him to dropped this as confirmation of something big core gamers will care a lot about when pressed at E3.

Also, the best 2D platformers are Mario 3 and DKC 2.

IGN: One of those GCN rereleases for Wii is Pikmin. We just want to clarify that this is not Pikmin 3 that Miyamoto referenced at E3 2008.

Cammie Dunaway: It's not the Pikmin that Mr. Miyamoto referred to, no. Mr. Miyamoto referred to a new Pikmin, as opposed to the classics that are being rereleased on Wii.

This very True, I hadn't even realized it was called Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island until now. I always thought it was just Yoshi's Island.

As for Pikmin, I am glad to hear that there is a Pikmin 3 on the way, and will pick up the remade Pikmin 2 for sure.

Regarding the Super Mario World 2 assertion, the "2" was only added for Western release. In Japan, it was treated as its own game.

Agreed! I got quite excited when I saw the cover posted here. I thought maybe they were making something new. So cruel, FoodNipple.

And it's good to know that this remake isn't the new Pikmin game. While I liked the first game a lot, I'm not sure if I'd be interested it playing the same thing again with wii controls. I want a new Pikmin game.
