So out with it.
Hardware, games, controllers, characters anything.
What do you like that you sometimes just don't want people to know?
For me;
Hardware-Logitech 2,1 speakers. 49.99 and they sound freaking awesome but if you admit it, tech lovers start shitting themselves.
Gaming-Two Worlds and Advent Rising.

Also, Harvest Moon.

Two games that always get flak in gaming conversations but I loved them:
Deus Ex 2: Invisible War
Dungeon Siege

Ok.
One I just realized after seeing another post here.
I think Thief 3 is the bomb. Like I mean I freaking love it. Beat it on XBOX then on PC and then back on Xbox when I got my HD projector.
I like it even more than the 1st two which I LOVED.
Mortal Kombat 3 with a passion.

OK maybe Katamari Damaci and Rescue Rangers on the NES, but that's it, I promise!

I'm not ashamed of any of it, but I suppose the oddest games I like have to be Pokemon, Viva Pinata, Harvest Moon and Animal Crossing. They seem particularly odd next to my other must-buy franchises: The Legend of Zelda, Castlevania and, right at the top, Grand Theft Auto.

It's probably a little pathetic how many times I've played through Final Fantasy VI in my life, especially since it came out on the GBA. Lot's of people will admit it's a great game, but it seems like I always have a runthrough of it in progress for when I want to 'cleanse my palette' between other games. I really should just get over it already, but boy howdy do I love that game.

Dude, those are two great games. Never be ashamed of them!

This (http://www.mobygames.com/game/pink-panther-passport-to-peril) game (another description can be found here (http://www.mrbillsadventureland.com/reviews/o-p/pinkpantR/pinkpant1R.htm)). I loved it when it came out. I bought it at Tower Records when I was heartbroken and wanted to zone out. I wound up loving every easy minute of it.
Yep.

I've mentioned it many times before, and I'm definitely not ashamed of it, but Grabbed by the Ghoulies is one of the greatest (in the top three) Xbox 1 games, and probably in the top ten for that generation. I love that game so much.

You know, I've never bought a copy of Zero Wing, and I could never get the ROM to work on any of the Genesis emulators I liked to use back when that was fashionable. So I've never played it.
EDIT: Also, I just realized this was related to my username 8-P.

I love that song.
Back in the NES days there was a game called Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom that I absolutely adored. I recently bought a copy in the box on ebay, and my friends will not stop mocking me for it. The day it came, they called me Princess Tomato all night long. Which was actually pretty funny.

I love music from the Sonic games. Not the old ones, the new ones. Sonic Adventure and onward. So awesome! I even know the lyrics to most of the female vocal songs, and sing along. The games themselves suck, though.
I think that would be the thing I'm most ashamed of, out of all the nerdy things I do.
Other than that, I'm not really ashamed of any of the games I play. I love Animal Crossing (well, loved... little burned out these days), Magic Pengel, Graffiti Kingdom, Viva Pinata, and damn near any other colorful, cutsey games you can name. The brighter the colors in a game, the more I'll probably like it!

I haven't played that game in forever, but I remember that it's battle system was literally Rock, Paper, Scissors (not in the Dokapon way, but in the "I'm throwing rock and you are throwing scissors" way). Also, congrats on the boxed copy. How much was it?

Ten bucks plus shipping!
That game only had like three battles in it, and they were rock paper scissors. It had such a unique aesthetic, with all the heros and characters being fruit and vegetables, and the bad guys being "Farmies" and all that. It was my first foray into the adventure game genre (is that what you call games in that particular style?), leading me to other NES gems like The Immortal, Deja Vu, and that other one that I can't remember right now, which in turn led to the King's Quest, Space Quest, LucasArts games (oh man, Day of the Tentacle? Full Throttle? Fuck yes) and eventually leading up to Zack and Wiki. It's unfortunate that the genre has died out a little bit.

Hardware: I built a "Voodoo/Glide machine" a few years back to play all of the 3dfx games I missed. P3 700 MHz and a Voodoo 5500 (2 GPU's on one card) and 512 MB Ram. Found out it had trouble with a lot of older games and I had to use a Glide wrapper for some.
Games: Mobile Suit Gundam: Zeonic Front, and while quite critically acclaimed but much maligned by some people who consider themselves "true" Chrono Trigger fans, Chrono Cross is one of my all time favorites.

I didn't like Chrono Cross very much the first time I played it, because I was hoping and expecting something a little more Chrono Trigger-ish. When I went back and replayed it, I found I love that game.
The story and character development still doesn't stand up to Chrono Trigger, but it's got great music, a wonderful aesthetic, and an interesting story in it's own way. I didn't really need fifty playable characters, tho. I would have rather had more character and less characters, if you follow my wordsmithery.

Can't discount anything you said. When I started playing it, It became painfully apparent that it was not quite the game it was billed to be. I have since beaten it probably over 10 times meaning Chrono Trigger is the only game to beat it in that department, though by a substantial margin.
Something else I am a little ashamed to admit is that I think I own 5 or 6 copies of Chrono Trigger in a few formats (3 for the SNES):o

I have two SNES copies and the PSX remake, which I beat a couple times even tho it had those pathetically horrible loading times. I would literally wait to use an item or equip a character until I had more than one reason to go to my menu screen, just because it took so frikkin long. Once I get a new DS and the DS remake, I'll own four. I find six to be respectable. :D

I can't tell you how much I ragged on my 27 year old cousin when he set his alarm clock to midnight every night for a month so he could turn on a lighthouse in Animal Crossing. Even he admitted it was crazy, but he still did it. All so some small fuzzy digital animal wouldn't get mad at him.
He wouldn't change the console clock either, because that would be cheating, he said.

Final Fantasy VII: It isn't my favorite game in the world, or even my favorite Final Fantasy, but to this day I think it is pretty awesome. It's story, it's characters, the setting, and especially the music are all really well done. I even thought the materia system was pretty well thought-out. That was actually the last game that really felt like a Final Fantasy to me.
The Super Scope 6: I had a lot of fun with this thing when I first got my SNES. It came with a cart that had a bunch of mini-games on it, including a version of Tetris.
Dragonball Z Tenkaichi Budokai 2: This game was a whole lot of fun. The fighters are terribly unbalanced, but regardless, it's fast and has an almost Smash Bros.-like feel because of how simple the controls are (at least where fighting games are concerned). I really enjoyed unlocking all of the characters, and playing with my cousin, so it easily occupied a huge chunk of my time. I think I'll pick up another DBZ game once of these days, but probably on the cheap.

Fuck yeah! I still have my Super Scope sitting on the shelf. Last year my girlfriend used it as part of a Tank Girl costume for halloween! Some of those games were pretty fun.
Thing is, I have the gun, the game and the sensor, but I lost the actual scope that clipped onto the side of the gun, so it's pretty much impossible to aim. I always have an eye open for a way to snag one on the cheap.

I liked the Xbox version of Rainbow Six 3 better than the PC version. In a lot of ways it was a crummy port, but maybe it was because I had a brilliant team of people to play co-op with, or maybe it was the downscale on the crazy difficulty level, but I had way more fun with the Xbox port than I did the original.

Man, I have DWM2, but I've pretty much put in down in favor of Pokemon. The game is just so damn grindy, and it doesn't make levelling your critters nearly as easy as Pokemon does with it's first round switch trick. And the wildness mechanic is just frustrating as crap, you're basically forced to rely on the auto attack because it takes for ever for critters to be tame enough to follow an order.

Recently watching Spoony's 10 minute rant on the Draw system made me remember all too well how much I hated it.
I got shafted so hard by the draw system the first time I tried playing the game.
I figured more is better, since you bound them to your stats, so I set out to collect 99 of every spell I could get. Shortly into the game, I realized that you don't have unlimited or even large amounts of space to store the draws so I couldn't draw any of the new spells I encountered. Then, to my horror, I realized you could only get rid of them by casting them one-at-a-fucking-time. If there is a way to syphon them off, I hadn't reached the point where I could use it yet or know how. I made it through around 50 fires before I just said fuck it and quit.

I think my psp doesn't like square RPGs, I only was able to run Xenogears and FFVII. All the others (PS1) FF RPGs and chrono cross I have tried doesn't work.
I really want to replay Chrono Cross, but it looked like shit on the ps3...
I can help you out with Chrono Cross on the PSP and you can use old save files aswell.;) It runs fantastic btw.
I actually need to track down copies of FF VII-IX again. Sold mine quite some time back and haven't been able to find them in stores since and I really don't want to resort to ebay. This thread is making me yearn for some older JRPG "goodness". May even try and nab Chrono Cross while I'm at it.
I'm a sucker for random battles. And Vivi.

I'll say it again, I loved FFVIII. It was the first of the PS1 FFs I finished, and the only one I finished twice. I dfound the draw/junction system to be truly fun - once you figured out the principles (what to junction where) you could do some downright entertaining things with it.

This. The reason I ended up in the situation I described in my last post was specifically because I was excited about junctions. I fully appreciate the payoff of being able to modify your character to suit your current needs.
What FFVIII ended up being for me was a series of great ideas tied to horrible ideas.

I always ended up using a turbo controller and reading a book while my characters drew a hundred spells from each sleeping enemy.
You shouldn't have to have a book handy to keep entertained while playing a game. But maybe you were never intended to draw a hundred spells everytime you found a new one, either. I always did.

Exactly. Every time I encountered a new spell I had to draw from it until everyone was maxed. Because the junction system's potency was directly related to how many of a spell you had, I never saw any reason not to.

Yeah, you get to a point where you're getting rid of all your early magic so you can draw some awesome new spell.
Man, that game was pretty awesome, I think I'll give it another runthrough soon. It's been a long time.
Remember the opening sequence? Still one of the more badass Final Fantasy cinematics. And in my opinion, FFVIII had the best ending out of all the games, except maaaaybe for X. Maybe.

I figured more is better, since you bound them to your stats, so I set out to collect 99 of every spell I could get. Shortly into the game, I realized that you don't have unlimited or even large amounts of space to store the draws so I couldn't draw any of the new spells I encountered. Had to look it up because I could not remember but hitting the Square button should trash the highlighted magic.

The best way to get magic aside from certain spells was to use the refining ability of your GF's. Admittedly Final Fantasy VIII initially really put me off until the game started cranking through the story and the Draw/Junction system started making more sense.

Train sims. I love me some fucking train sims. I could play Densha de Go FINAL all day long, and be one happy guy. They're boring as hell to watch, and granted when you play you don't really do much outside of watch for signals and speed up/slow down accordingly, but it's hard to put to words just how friggin' hard it can be to get to your destination on time (and remember in japan "on time" is a 10 second window before/after the posted arrival time), and then to stop right on the money where you're supposed to.
I have a full and complete understanding of why Japan's train operators are some stressed out dudes, and yet I still want to be one.

Re: FFVIII
I actually didn't have a problem with the draw system. It was like 5 minutes work - as far as games go, not a signficiant grind. (He says, having grinded the casino in Persona 2 Innocent Sin for 5 hours last night).
Also had the easiest end-game grind ever. Go to one of the Islands from Hell, wander around the periphery, drawing out of every draw point along the way and having brutal high-level enemy encounters to level from. It was sweet.
But yes, the magic refining system was what you really needed to exploit. My favorite trick was to get Quetzacoatl to the point that he can convert enemy drops to magic, and convert this one Windmill (I think) item into Tornado spells. Then Junction those - especially into the Strength stat (Ifrit). You had one guy doing level 50-class damage (like 1000's of points) at level 10.

That bottom controller, at least the PS2 version, is really nice. I am sure the Wii one's the exact same one with a different connection, but the little display on it actually works, and is pretty much just like what an actual Shinkansen operator sees (only modern Shinkansen are all fancy color-LCD computerized now).
The Wii one's going to be a remake of the Densha De GO!: Sanyo Shinkansen game. Sadly, while you think the Shinkansen would be exciting since they go 180MPH, they're really the most boring of the train games because the hauls between stations are very long and the train practically drives itself because the signaling system is very, very informative. I wish they'd make a Tokaido Shinkansen game, as it's the line I've actually used in real life (It runs from Tokyo to Osaka). The Sanyo Shinkansen runs from Osaka down the rest of Honshu terminating at Hakata station (in Fukuoka, on the island of Kyushu). If I move to Japan and get my placement in Himeji like I'm aiming for, then I'll be more familiar with the trains of western Japan.
I don't own any of the Densha controllers, but only because they're really hard to find these days in the Tokyo area.... but I keep looking. I would LOVE to find the controller sony made for their Train Simulator Real: Yamanote Sen game. It was a $200 controller, but the build quality was really nice, and it is the best console train controller I know of.

These included gems like California Games, Gauntlet, Gates of Zendacon, Electrocop, Chips Challenge, Blue Lightning. I still don't regret the purchase to this day and some of those early launch games were really good I feel.

I don't think I'm ashamed of any games that I play, since I have a very wide range of taste. I played through Open Season and TMNT this year, but didn't LOVE them (Open Season wasn't a bad game though, especially if you have kids).
