Not really. Apparently, there's some big trouble (http://www.tentonhammer.com/node/50624) brewing at the develpment house.
First, a (presumably) disgruntled employee site:
http://days-since-cheyenne-mountain-employees-have-been-paid.com/
22 days
Then a response from the company:
At Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, we have always been upfront with the media and our fans that we are a start up. Like many start ups, we face the same cash-flow issues that all pre-revenue companies face. We have maintained a core of dedicated investors, but the new economic realities are forcing us to seek out additional sources of funding and that's what we're doing.
We continue to move forward on the Stargate Worlds project. We recently completed a successful phase of closed beta testing and we will start a second phase early in 2009. We invite all of your readers to come to our site, check out our fantastic community and sign up for our beta.
Sucks to be them.

Really has me worried. I was really hoping this would be a game that I could put wow on the shelf and start with this one. Sadly, I'm not sure it will be.

Not the way it's looking at this point. Not paying your employees for 22 days is bad.

They still bothering with this game?

The gameplay footage of this sorta dashed my hopes for the game. The trailers made it look like they had the makings of what was basically Tabula Rasa 2, which really interested me because I liked TR, it just needed a more interesting setting and better quests/zones.
THen they let out some footage from a con or what not of someone playing the real game, and it was pretty much pants. I stand here and auto-attack, while you stand there and auto-attack, until one of us dies. Looked pretty damn dull to me.
It's a shame, I really think Tabula Rasa did some awesome stuff, but I doubt I'll ever see any of it again in another MMO the way things are looking.

I love stargate and was really hoping for a nice game to compliment it. Very sad to hear about the payment thing. In other news, that is quite possibly the longest URL I've ever seen.
This game is actually taking a good turn in how gameplay is.;)
I'm probably already breaking NDA but whatever.

I don't think honoring the NDA really matters when the count is now
23 days
since they paid their employees.

So are they supposed to be paid weekly or something?
I'm just saying, it's been 26 days since I last got paid, but you don't see me putting up a website. :D

It's not been 26 days since your last payment was due though has it?

Yeah I don't think it's a monthly payment issue. But they are a month over due. That's fucked up. I hope they already looking elsewhere.

It does suck, this seems to be happening with a lot of businesses in the current climate. As I'm not too familiar with the potential of the game, does anyone have an opinion on whether the completed games release would do well enough to put the company back into safer waters (financially)?

It's a relatively new company that's trying to self publish an MMO. If they just find a decent publisher they should be fine unless the do like Tabula Rasa and massively inflate their budget.

I think with the fanbase that Stargate has, if they can actually get the game out of the door, they will recover.

I hope the company will recover as well. I just really doubt the ability of MMOs other than WOW and a few select others to make money. I also don't think the Stargate fanbase is big enough to support an MMO. I mean, Star Wars had trouble supporting an MMO. Yeah, partially because of poor design decisions and player disgruntlement, but still.
I have several friends of friends working at Cheyenne Mountain though, so I really hope they get paid soon.

I bet the BioWare starwars MMO will kill. I hope they add more to the lure overall though.

Take something like EVE Online. Start out small with something different and expand from there. Don't spend 3-4 years developing a WoW killer that is almost the same game with a different setting and be surprised when you aren't hitting a million subscribers a month.

Boo any MMO that isn't Fallen Earth, coming next year from Icarus Studios.

Ya, this right here is the problem, I agree.
