Jason's mom bulked up...
Because if they're remaking the original and actually putting Jason in it, they failed already.
That major nitpick aside, it does look entertaining, in a "I'll rent it" sort of way. I wonder how many explosions Bay will fit in.

Here is the plot of the original...
In 1957, A young boy named Jason Voorhees drowned. In 1958, two camp counselors were murdered. In 1962, fires and bad water thwarted the reopening of Camp Crystal Lake. Now in 1979, Crystal Lake was finally reopened by Steve Christy with the help of a few new counselors. Ignoring the warnings from a local wacko, the murders start once again while a mysterious stalker prowls the area. Is it Revenge that the killer is looking for? Who will survive the nightmare and live to tell the story?
...and here is the plot for the "remake"...
Whitney (Amanda Righetti), Clay (Jared Padalecki), Mike (Nick Mennell), Jenna (Danielle Panabaker), Trent (Travis VanWinkle) and other young adults end up exploring the old Camp Crystal Lake (made famous by the original 1980 film). Soon enough however their seemingly fun weekend turns into a nightmare when each one finds themselves hunted down by a machete weilding maniac known as Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears).
Seems sound to me...

And they're calling it a "reimagining," not a remake.
As long as Jason kills in spectacularly hilarious ways, I'll be ok.

Jason's mom bulked up...

And as we all know, Drew Barrimore died in Scream for making that mistake.

I'm all about an homage to the classic 80's slasher franchise. Well, not an homage, but a retake on the character...bah, whatever! I'm a huge Jason fan, but it looks like they're taking the whole naked chick thing up to a new level. I'm sorry, I've been water skiing on the lake with friends. No girl I know has ever went topless. Then again, it is a modern horror film. I feel shameful for even thinking logically.
I was stoked about the re-imagining, but after this...not so much. Don't get me wrong, naked is my favorite kind of woman, I just don't think this is the what I had imagined. I could be wrong of course. Time will tell. I saw a bit of hope here and there. Ah, who am I kidding? I'll still be there opening day. :D

That's the thing. When I see any modern horror movies that includes a group of sexy young teenagers getting into trouble, my interest drops right off. I know most of the classic slasher movies had the same, but nowadays they get way too hung up on that part.
It does, however, make me enjoy them getting slaughtered that much more.

Ultimately...this.
I literally rolled my eyes as soon as the credit to Michael Bay popped up.
Jason will be attacking people with explosions, mark my words. He'll have a machete made out of explosions.
I may rent it, but there's no chance I would waste theater money on it or buy it.

I would pay bucks to watch a movie of over-the-hill World War 2 vets taking on some "villain" in a horror movie.

Bubba Ho-Tep was as close as it gets, probably.
And that movie kicks ass.
Bring on the geriatric slasher flicks!

Couldn't agree more. Love how the trailer starts, then...cue group of teenagers in Escalade with loud, pseudo rock music. Oh, be sure to capture every stereotype in the cast. I was thinking Hostel before long. Sigh!
I was hoping for an origin story and this is what I get. I've seen this movie what, 10 times before? How is it re-imagined when it's the same thing? Here's hoping I'm totally wrong.

I will say, Jason looked amazing. That's one perk.
Edit: Okay, obviously I'm having streaming problems, b/c I didn't see some of the scenes that look like they could be back story for the character. Hmmm...

Its a remake of the first 3...notice how jason has a bag mask AND a hockey mask.
They haven't failed...you just haven't read up on the movie :p

Lot of stupid opinions in this thread...were there explosions in the Texas Chainsaw remake? Nope. Bay is the producer...not the director.

I wasn't ever aware there was going to be a remake until just now.
So you are correct, I was misinformed. I can let the presence of Jason slide.
But since when am I not allowed to make jokes about Michael Baysplosion? :p
Is my opinion stupid because it doesn't match yours? Or is it a contract requirement of some kind that you insult at least one person in every thread? ;)

Dude...I've been camping numerous times with friends. Not once we were stalked and systematically murdered by a hockey mask wearing sociapath.
It's a movie man! ;)

I didn't single you out with the stupid comment. Some of the negative opinions in here would have been addressed if the person checked out the backstory. In other cases, like the naked waterskiing chick, that's just plain silly to attack. It's a movie for christs sake with a homicidal luncatic as the main character. This isn't Shakespeare.

I don't see what all the hubbub is about. I'm a long-time fan of the franchise, and the trailers look great to me. The only thing I'm a bit iffy about is how he moves, it's very different from the way he moved in the old movies, but that is something I'm okay with changing.
Also: You guys shouldn't approach this as a remake. It is a franchise reboot.

Don't read too much into it, it was a joke. Hence the ";)"
Bottom line is that no movie in this kind of genre will be a "good" movie. But part of what makes them enjoyable, to me, is laughing at the stupid shit that happens in them. I'm just getting a head start.

He moves like Jason did in part 2. The actors in 3 and 4 was kind of tall and he lumbered around. Then Jason took on a whole different demeanour in 6, 7 and 8. That was the slow moving Jason where the actors would be in a dead sprint and then we would see him just hulking a long at a casual pace. By then he was both an expert and supernatural...why fucking hurry?? ;)

I wasn't attacking it. Quite the contrary. I just commented on how it's graduated to modern horror with the obligational gamut of pointless nudity. Nothing wrong with that and I'm still going to see it opening day.
What's wrong with wanting something more?

IMO no Friday the 13th movie is actually "good", so I don't see how they can screw this up unless they really puss out on the gore factor. Watching the trailer, it feels exactly like a modern Friday the 13th movie should.
OTH, I thought the TCM remake was pretty useless, but only because the original was and still is a pretty effective scare (not gore) flick to me. The remake basically threw out everything that was great about the original.

Wait, weren't the Friday the 13th movies big popularizers of sex in slashers? Wasn't it even part of the lore for a bit? I thought there was a time when people having sex on the campgrounds was actually what brought him back to life, since it was counselors having sex and not watching the swimmers that caused him to die in the first place.

Jason X was awesome, it had some of the best Jason kills ever, and some great jokes. The girl with the face in the liquid nitrogen, classic.
Anyone expecting much more than teenagers in skimpy outfits being slaughtered in a Jason movie is missing the point.

Normally, I'd be right there with you.
But, even as a fan of the series, it's not like any of the movies were good. I'm not opposed to remakes of crap movies, so remake away.

This is the issue for me. It's the same reason I stopped watching the Friday the 13th, Elm Street, and Halloween movies. I should feel sorry for the victims, not want them dead. I don't want to empathize with the killer.
Hostel and Saw originally succeeded (beyond mere titillation) because they brought back the idea that the audience should feel bad for the people getting killed. Either the death was so painful and horrifying that only the basest of scum could deserve it, or the victims were being punished for transgressions in a way that was completely out of proportion to their sins. Later, both franchises forgot this and became the same thing the predecessor slasher movies became - grand guignol with obnxoious victims.
To be fair, the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake was pretty good, but this commercial doesn't fill me with much hope that I'll feel bad for Jason's victims.

I enjoyed the Texas Chainsaw remake...hell it had Jessica Biel...I'd have to be gay not to love that movie.

I was about to mention it. Love that scene. Funniest scene, voluntary or unvoluntary, in the series.
I'm all over this remake. I have this giant soft spot for this series after a tv channel showed all the movies over the course of a summer back when I was 14 or 15. They bring me back to those lazy summer nights.
I even bought the box set just the other day, with movies 1-8, and I'm on #6 now. Mostly theatrical cuts, sadly, because I now realize the movies I saw back in the day were pretty much "uncut" versions. And they are still pretty shitty movies.
Can't wait! :)
