I can't talk up this game enough, it's definitely one of the most overlooked (and beautiful) gems of this year. It's a permanent part of my gaming collection now.

Wait, really? Is this a trap?

Well, I figured your word was worth the $4.27 this cost me (including tax and shipping). After my 10% discount it was $8.99 and I had a $5 coupon.
So I hope it's least a worth the price of a cheeseburger. If not, you owe me a cheeseburger.

Nope, not at all. It has one of the better graphics engines this generation I think (fuck Unreal 3 engine). It also is a fairly good length for a title in this genre, and takes bits of Gears of War (the cover mechanic), some neat puzzles (charging the glaive with fire or electrical elements found in the gameworld), and a REALLY great and fun weapon called the Glaive. Taking heads off with a boomerang-type bladed weapon never got old for me. Some parts of it reminded me of Resident Evil 4, and I've heard this from other people as well, but I think it's because of the same close-over-sholder perspective, though there ARE some zombies in this. The story had such promise, but never fully got fleshed out (or explained enough I think). Instead you're left with some head scratching.
I think it's a great 3rd person action title and I'll be honest...I wasn't expecting much from it. After popping it into my console (traded a game for it on EvAv) I couldn't pull myself away from it. I beat it inside of a weekend, but that's because I played it nearly non-stop for days.
For 3rd person action-game fans, it doesn't get much better than this. I think it's definitely one of the overlooked games of the year. And it's a pity because it's a really good game in this genre. It's a beautiful, yet dreary, game. Some exceptional environs and boss fights, too.
Play through the tutorial level and the game will definitely pick up. That's when the fun shit starts to happen.

Some other good deals there:
Condemned 2 (360) $11 (I sort wish I had seen that first)
Quake Wars (360) $9.
Bully (360) $12.
Anyone who doesn't have Bully should definitely pick it up. It was one of my favorite games last year.

Thanks for the heads up. But the question remains: is it worth as much as a cheeseburger?

I almost bit on Quake Wars a few months back, but it seemed to get bad reviews. Or not favorable anyway. Otherwise, I would have picked it up. Price is definitely key for me.
I posted Condemned 2's $9.99 deal yesterday, and Rainbow Six Vegas 2 the day before. Looks like Gamefly is going to do this up until Xmas. Condemned 2 is a good game (I liked the original game as well), and also scored Rainbow Six Vegas 2 though I've barely played the first--I bought it cheap last black friday.
And yes, Bully was a great game. Got all but that last achievement, too. It's too masochistic for me.

I just bought another copy for a family member for Xmas. So...yes, I'd have to say it is. Maybe even fries and a drink, too. :)

I have Quake Wars on PC. Don't bother with it. It's okay, but there are better multiplayer games with larger playerbases.

For what it's worth, I also really enjoyed Dark Sector. The glaive was a fun, interesting new game mechanic for me. It was quite satisfying to cut some hapless enemy in half and hear him scream while doing so.

Dark Sector was barely OK. I got bored about 2 hours in and sent it back. Your mileage may vary. Bully, on the other hand, is pure awesome.

The first level is more of an introduction before you have any super powers--and is produced in a great black-and-white style. But once you start acquiring powers (which is fairly early on), the game gets ridiculously fun. Using aftertouch to control the glaive is a great idea and something I used a lot. Some enemies had to be taken down a special way (some strategy), the boss battles were really fun, and the game had an overall epic feel. I think I enjoyed it more than I did Gears, to be honest. It has the mandatory vehicle section or two, but they are done in an enjoyable way and aren't very long. The puzzles were good fun, but not mindbending. You can also upgrade your weapons and buy different variations, but for the most part I just used the glaive. It was too fun not to.
Basically, the game is about being a badass. I loved that. There was no bad part to the game that I can think of. Some may not think it's AAA, but while playing I definitely felt that it was and couldn't fathom why a game of this caliber was overlooked. Still one of my favorite titles this year, it was that surprisingly fun. I love stumbling upon games like that.

I really enjoyed the game too, but got shit for defending it back on EvAv. Bastards.
It's worth it.

Dark Sector is great, amazing visuals (the graveyard section is drooltastic) and solid gameplay. The only part I did not enjoy was the last boss.

Agreed - the last boss seemed silly and out of context or something. Didn't ruin the game for me though.
