View Full Version : Left 4 Dead - What system are you getting it for?

This is my first attempt at a poll, but just curious what system people will be buying it for. I'm in a bad spot with this one. I definitely want it it for PC (the mods for this game should be great), but I have a lot of friends who are picking it up on 360. Which means I will most likely be getting it on both systems. *sigh :(

Even if I had a 360, I would be getting it for PC.

There's just some games that I would rather get on 360, but I like to let the Valve games stick to the PC.

Valve + Steam = Easy Choice

Given the way updates have worked with TF2 across both platforms, the PC seems a pretty obvious choice for those who have a machine that's up to the task.

I started out my FPS career playing on the PC, but after many years of that I moved towards the consoles. Now I seem to be back to the PC.

I'm primarily a console gamer (except for indie/strategy games) but I have to make a big allowance for Valve's stuff. Their home is the PC no matter what.

I'm getting this on my PC through Steam the way god intended. I'm always shocked that people would prefer to play any FPS on a console instead of the PC but I'm especially shocked anyone would choose a Valve game. When you look at how TF2 played out, how could you ever want to put yourself through that.

I'd be willing to set up a dedicated CoG L4D server for whatever day is chosen. Although one server will hardly be enough. Only 12 slots available. 4 survivors, 4 infected, 4 spectators.

That's how I am. I have a group of friends that's been playing together since the XBOX1 days, so that's where I usually go.

However...

After TF2, I just don't want to get burned again.

this always weighs on my mind.

Valve is really trying to make this a successful (supported) title on the 360. Has any of our staff even gotten the chance to demo it on PC? I have enough friends on both to do the double purchase, and then I can play it on my laptop during lunch :D

Deunnero, as a favor to us, try the demo. It may not have the same feel as playing with real people, (unless valve has an ounce of common sense and makes the demo multiplayer) but just playing alone just ooozes fun

I'm stuck with the 360 for better or worse. I only have a Mac so I won't be able to play it on the PC but that kind of works out as I tend to do better with FPS games with a controller over keyboard/mouse. Just feels more...fluid to me. Odd man out, I'm sure, so I guess the 360 doesn't matter much either way.

See, I'm not worried about the initial game. I'm worried about the after launch support. I expect L4D will get some great updates, and from what I've suffered on 360 with TF2, I've resolved not to miss out again.

No, you should be buying a PC for this one. PC is the way to go for this, unless you want to have to pay for updates a year late. It's a Valve game, so it will run on a goddamned TI-83, so it is not like anyone will need to upgrade to play it.

Sadly, not so much. My 5 year old system's processor can't handle it apparently. But I'm due for an upgrade anyways, and this is the perfect game to stress test that new system.

For those that are wondering, you can get a good system (mostly midrange, but with some high-end stuff) for roughly $1200. And with the holidays, stuff is gonna be on sale. Whining about needing a new PC is not an option!

I have no problem with shooters on the console, but I preordered this through Amazon weeks ago. I'm banking on it having better longevity on that platform. The PC pre-order is still $36.99 on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Left-4-Dead-Pc/dp/B000PS4X7S/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1223004100&sr=8-2) if anyone getting it on PC hasn't gotten their copy set up yet.

What, are you deathly allergic to PCs or something? Or maybe just a sado-masicist who prefers playing the inferior versions of games? Do you enjoy waiting a year and paying for updates over getting them free and often? Did a keyboard and mouse kill your mother and rape your father? Are you getting a free version for the 360?

I can't imagine a reason outside of this list as to why someone would willingly play this game on the 360 over the PC.

Those new guys are Certain Affinity.

Ex-Bungie guys and the ones that did a few of the Halo 3 maps. Their founder is Max Hoberman, who was the multiplayer lead on Halo 2.

I'm getting it for 360, unless extra ram shows me that the demo is at least playable on my PC.

Knowing Valve, probably not. They like to scale their games as much as they can. I think you can play this on a 2Ghz P4 with 512MB of RAM, if I remember correctly.

I'm getting it on both. I know the crew here by and large plays on Steam, so of course I'll get it there. Then there's the 360 with the g/f and other less significant buddies (sorry! tis true!), so I must grab it there too.

For those who didn't know:

* OS: Windows Vista, XP or 2000
* CPU: 3.0 GHz P4, Dual Core 2.0 or AMD64X2 (or higher)
* RAM: 1 GB for XP / 2GB for Vista
* Disc drive: DVD-ROM Drive
* Hard drive: At least 7.5 GB of free space
* Video: Direct X 9 compatible video card (Video card must be 256 MB or more and should be a DirectX 9-compatible with support for pixel shader 2.0)
* Sound: Direct X9.0c compatible sound card

And yes, for me it's Magic PC all the way!
