I'm thinking of growing my hair out, just for a change. I used to have very, very long hair as some of you may know, but it's been short (number two blend) since I moved to the States.

Should I?

Keep your head nice and warm in the winter. Go for it.

I got sick of having long hair, the second time round, 'cause I was sick of lying on it at night, or just finding I'd tied my ankles together with all the hair that wound up everywhere (I have really thick hair). Still feels a bit odd having it really short though.

Depends how annoyed you were with it when you cut it all off I guess. It's what I remind myself of.

I think you should it's fun to do something different with your appearance occasionally. I tend to go between long hair and short hair and I get rid of each as soon as I'm sick of it. So do it.

Grow it out. Long hair is wonderful. :)

Do it. Long hair is the best thing ever. I hit the twenty inch bench mark just a week or so ago, and it feels great.

I've been doing the long hair thing since I started college. I think its great. Maintenance is a pain, but hey, you look badass.

You should definitely grow it out

I had long hair for most of the 90's. Just too much maintenance. My hair is very thick and it took half the day to dry thoroughly if I took a morning shower. Also it got tied in knots from the wind when riding my motorcycle. Made my helmet fit too tight also.

Looked good though! It gets quite wavy and has a lot of volume when it's long. It would probably look a lot different now that it's silver!

Give it a go! A change that you have control over is a good factor when things that you have no control over are changing all around you.

Do it, do it! Should be fun. Joey used to have long hair but cut it short last month. Need more people with long hair! :)

Do it. I would never have cut my hair if not for that whole going bald thing. I dig the shaved head, but not nearly as much as my long hair.

I guess I'm a rebel because I never wanted to grow my hair out. Short hair is easy to maintain. Washing isn't a chore, and you don't have to worry about drying or combing or curling it or any of that bullshit.

Post a before and after if you do do this. :D

If you're going to do it, do it now, in winter.

Do it for me, since I can't. I'd still have mine, but the military had different plans.

Long hair is good for headbanging....I like mine short though, low maintenance.

I did my fair share of headbanging back in the day, which probably accounts for a lot of my current issues.

I have to agree with that: long hair is very high maintenance. Mine's nearly to my waist now, and it takes a fair bit of time to thoroughly brush and over an hour, I know, to wash. Mind you, I have a rather involved process - including conditioning with olive oil - that not everyone bothers with, so take that as you will.

How long was it last time around, Fits?

Conditioning with olive oil? Where do you guys get that sort of hair care information from? It wasn't until earlier this year that a girlfriend informed me that I didn't need to wash my hair every day and that it made my hair dry. Did I miss that day of health class or something?

You must be privy to a girl willing to share the secrets of the girl cult... I just found out the dry hair thing and other secrets as well from my gf a few years back.. but if I share, I shall certainly be killed.

I’ve learned quite a few things from simply cozying up to the right women, but the olive oil thing actually came from a sort of PR rep. I was supposed to attend some sort of big to-do in D.C. a few years back, and, about a month before, this lady met with me and said, if I wasn’t going to cut my hair, I at least needed to care for it right. And, thus, the secrets were passed on to me...and I now pass them on to you all. ;)

I can never grow my hair longer than my shoulders because it thins out alot once it gets long. I start to lose hair at an alarming rate once I start to even try to get to shoulder length. I grew my hair out for a year last year, and everyday my comb would be a mass of hair. Hair is still covering my keyboard, and is stuck in my headphones as well.

But, your own choice.

I knew a Sheikh at the local Mosque who swore by drinking camel urine. I’m not sure how far you’re willing to go for thick hair, but I just thought I’d toss that out there. ;)

I recently decided to cut my hair shorter. I went 6 years of having long, rocker hair, and now it's a bit more trim. I plan on getting it even shorter before long. I love it. So much easier.

DO IT. I definitely prefer having long hair, even though my hair is a pain in the ass to deal with. I don't know about you, but chances are it won't be long before I'm bald, so I'm going to use my hair while I have it.

lol, jeffool. Longer hair was a ton of fun, but shorter hair is so much easier to manage. Although, I'd recommend everyone try growing it out long at least once in their lives.

Your long hair reminded me of my hair when I was younger. "poofy" as a friend would call it. Now it's just long...not as full as it used to be :(

Eh, I say grow it out long. If you change your mind later it's easy enough to fix.

I really want to grow my hair out but I don't know how well it'd work in my corporate environment. Plus the back of my hair starts doing this flippy thing when it grows out and looks really silly.

Still, I get my hair cut about twice a year, so it grows out decently before each cut. I should go soon but I'm resisting.

James, are you doing this? The GF just cut my hair and it's pretty fucking short. But seeing the Beard-Off thread got me inspired. So...

How's about we have a Hair-Off? No cutting (except for getting rid of those unsightly split ends) for four, five or six months? Hair grows at a much slower pace than beards, at least for me.
