What the fuck? This is the best JRPG EVER. How could you not want it?
And I'm in, I guess.Well, yeah, but I played the hell out of it back when it was a brand new SNES game. From what I understand, this one only offers a few minor updates (a couple new dungeons and a new ending). Not enough for me to play through it yet again.
Unless, you know, it's FREE. ;)

Mot was definitely cool enough to give away a copy of Chrono Trigger to commemorate our second show. Not only is he giving a copy away but he actually bought 2 copies. One for his review on next weeks show and one solely for the purpose of giving it away to one of you fine folks.
Remember, this is all to commemorate our new show (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=2936) and a lending of your ears would be greatly appreciated. Good luck to all of you.

I've noticed slight differences in the SNES and DS versions of Chrono Trigger. Small dialog changes and slight dungeon alterations. Not a big deal obviously, just something I had noticed. Maybe this was already common knowledge?

IIRC the DS version is built off the version they released on the PSX, which had a few minor changes throughout the game.

Blast it all, why is it 2008 and we still don't know who the "entity" is?

It's the same thing they were trying to say in the original translation, just made a little clearer. I had a pretty clear idea of who the entity they were speaking of was, ever since the first time I played the game, but I can see how other people interpreted those lines differently.
It was never meant to be a big mystery - the entity is the planet, reliving it's own memories before it's death, much like a person might have flashbacks to important moments of their life before they die. The DS version adds a little info that supports another possible - but much more convoluted - idea that Schala, as the Time Devourer from the end of Chrono Cross, is the entity, but I personally never got that idea. Replaying the game recently it seems pretty clear that when they use the phrase 'the entity', they are speaking about 'whatever life force that is or represents the planet'. But it's all open to debate.

I don't consider Chrono Cross to be canonical. Just the blasted tone of the game is so different that it hardly seems like the same product.
I actually only saw the middle of the game - I helped a friend play through it, and missed the first 10% and the last 10-15% of the game when I played. I saw pretty much nothing tying the game to Chrono Trigger at all during that time - I believe almost everything relating it to CT is at the end.
It's like having to play an entirely different game to find out some prologue stuff from the first game, and then none of that stuff makes much sense.

Gorvi,
What was broken on the PSOne port? Was it the loading times? The reason I ask is I bought all of those collections and never played through any of them. I would like to play through the DS version since it will be an easy and on-the-go solution but worst case I figured I would go back and play the copy I already have.

Load times was pretty much it. I started dreading opening up the menu to change gear/use an item/whatever because it meant about a 4 second (as in count 1 one thouseand two one thouasand, etc...) pause every time you did it. It just annoyed the living hell out of me.
I guess I could rip it to the PSP and it would probably fix most of that, but an updated version would be nice.

Awesome! Now I'm going to have to break the bad news to my wife that she'll be stuck with the old DS while I steal my Lite back. :D

Now that you have my "updated" version (:p) I think I am going to try to rip the PS version to the PSP and see if I get decent results. If not I can spring the cash for the DS version but I've read the "extra" content isn't really that big of a deal. Honestly, even if I had won it it would probably sit on the counter some place.
Congrats on the win. Glad it's going to someone who will appreciate it.
* edit - For crying out loud. I apparently had already ripped Chrono Trigger some time ago for the PSP and never played it. I have it burned to a disk with a few other PSP games I had ripped. Looks like I will give the PS/P version a try after all. That, or start playing at lunch time in my car on my PS2. I currently have it in the vehicle for my lunch breaks. Watching some BSG during lunch on it for now.
