Australia. Land of plenty. Home to some of nature's most amazing species (hello, kangaroos and koala bears). A place worth visiting if the opportunity arises. However, gamers may want to reconsider any plans they may have had to move there permanently given the Australian government's approach to the content, and subsequent rating and sale, of video games. The latest title to suffer at the hands of the seemingly overzealous Australian Classification Board (ACB) is the Monolith/Warner Bros. title F.E.A.R. 2.

The ACB recently refused to classify the game, which essentially means that the game is banned from sale there.

This is odd considering the first title, F.E.A.R., was issued a MA15+ rating by the ACB. It seems on the face of it to be wholly inconsistent as there's nothing I've seen from F.E.A.R. 2 that would differentiate it markedly from its predecessor.

It sucks to be a gamer in Australia. But hey, at least the weather's nice.

Censorship should be left to communist China.

Got to love the censors!

Not to mention the price of games in the land of the 'roo.

You'd thing with your country's founders being prisoners they'd be a bit more liberal in their censorship. :D

That's a pretty stupid move, yet again, by the brainacs running the ratings board. Do they think the world is made of fluffy bunnies and sunshine?

Hey, I've watched Animal Planet. Australia doesn't tell you that those nice beaches are swarming with giant spiders, bugs, feral cats and some of the deadliest snakes on the planet. :p

WTF?? Spiders on the beaches? Fuck that, seems everything in Australia wants to kill you including the plants and beaches.

Eh, as usual it'll be imported from Hong Kong with their deliciously low prices. Especially after this arbitrary $10AU increase we've experienced lately.

OH GOD DAMMIT WHY MUST THEY SCREW US SO!?

I dont even want to play FEAR2 as I didn't like the first one very much but thats not the point I should at least have the choice to play it. I suppose I would be able to play it on PC but you guys are right its the dam inconsistancy of it. How come there wasnt ONE SINGLE issue with the first FEAR but no the second one is decidely evil. How come we had to change all the drug names in Fallout 3 but I'm allowed to happily pump myselft full od morphine in FarCray 2 without a single negative effect.

One of these days I'm going to get my epic kangaroo mount and there will be blood. Yes sir there will be blood.

Once they start blocking the internet for you guys, and you can't shop on Steam anymore is when you get really worried. Not Coincidentally, that is also the day Australia goes to war with Eurasia.

Most of us cant shop on Steam anyway due to crappy Australian Broadband coverage. I live in a an urban area right next to the central buisness district and yet my house only just came into broadband coverage four years ago. At the moment it costs me $60 AU (38.95 USD) for a 512 speed with a 10 gig cap. If I download a game then what thats half of my downloads used up for the rest of the month.

Besides theres already a huge push going through to censor the internet.

Tell me about it. I'm with TPG who have launched ADSL2 everywhere in Melbourne except two places, and thankfully, I'm in one of those two places so I get to enjoy overpriced 512k with a cap too!

As a man living in the Midwest, I welcome any Australian citizens to work here and spend their money...we fucking need it.

Some serious fucked up shit going on at the moment. ISP level filtering, Weirdo game classification, IInet (ISP) being sued for not stamping down on pirating (Please win IInet I need my TV shows).

This wouldn't surprise me. I mean when I play Risk I like to build a stronghold in Australasia and move outwards from there. It makes sense that it'd work in the real world! So quickly, take Australia out of the scene before they team up with Canada and take the rest of us out!

Don't forget the deadly jelly fish and octopi that are so small, you'd probably not notice them until you're already fucked.
