Anyone into it?
They just added single player(A major missing comp).
What a blast for a good laid back time. I am a collector so getting some of the runes reminds me of Magic exactly.

It's a virtual collectible miniatures game IIRC.

I actually go through phases where I love playing Pox Nora. It really appeals to the part of me that liked M:tG when it first came out and a lot of the artwork is fantastic. It's also neat that each unit gains experience, and as they level up can improve stats and even gain new abilities, letting you evolve it as you like. They're pretty steady with the expansions and additions to the client, too. I think everyone can try out the standard pack of units for free, if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT: Technically, though. Pox Nora isn't an analog game, very much digital ;)

I am downloading as we speak. I have always dreamed that they would create a Battletech game using the same principals as it looks this game uses. I really enjoy miniature gaming, but I have 0 people to play with in real life. This many be an answer, just curious can you paint your minis in the game?

No, but that is a fucking brilliant idea.

Not at this time. Sometimes someone will mention it on forums and such but it has not yet come to pass. Due to the rather chaotic types of runes and characters you get, they probably don't think its a big deal.
I however thinkt that would rock.

I play. Or rather, i just restarted today...again.
Last time i logged into my acct was January 07, and the first order of business was resetting all of my champions. I evidently also completely forgot how to play in that time.

Adding solo play is the greatest thing ever. I stopped playing mostly because everyone I played was awesome at it, and knew all the cards by heart. I plan on spending some quality time playing the solo campaigns until I get my feet wet again.

When I get a chance I will pop on and we can play if you want. I have no special runes at all so it will be pretty even.

That would be cool, maybe I'll have some time this weekend. I tried playing the single player...holy hell, how are you supposed to win?

The first level is a battle vs the Tundra faction on a Tundra map, and even using a deck that's all Tundra (so they don't get frozen by the damn map) the computer just stomps the ever-living shit out of me. It's not even a contest.

Granted, I'm pretty rusty, but at one point the AI had 6 exotic level monsters out at once...how the hell can I compete with that? :p

Maybe you're just supposed to drop $50+ on boosters if you plan on winning...I bought the 50-pack booster for around $10, and tried again...I got beaten even worse.

I am so going to have to try this. Do you gents know if a demo is still around? I'll dig myself later on.

BTW- Is your avatar from Shining Force?!?

I'm not sure if there is a demo, but I thought you could play with the basic starter sets for free. Obviously it's like a CCG, so you have to buy e-boosters to get new, better cards. If you don't mind just playing for the hell of it you shouldn't have to spend much, or anything.

And yes, my avatar is the mighty Guntz from Shining Force 1. :D

I dl'd last night. I'm eager to give it a try tonight.

Although ScurvyDan's avatar has made me consider firing the Wii back up and plaing Shining Force. I JUST got to Guntz. I couldn't get him to join right away, but I'm guessing something will happen to allow me to soon.

You do get him later, just remember to look for the sheep. ;)

As for Pox Nora, it's fun, but especially at first it's a little daunting to learn the in's and out's of all the runes and their abilities. But they're like Magic cards you can upgrade because they earn experience. You can then take that exp and teach them new skills, upgrade existing ones, or raise their attributes.

The creatures can be pretty varied too. I got some sort of blind elf archer that's rare in my last booster. A blind archer...he can't attack on his own...but if someone else within 6 spaces of him attacks anything, he hears it and automatically shoots at them. Some of them are just crazy.

Karak is 100% correct that you don't have to spend a dime on cards...but like Magic, I always wonder what goodies are waiting for me to unwrap them. :D

I finally beat the first single player campaign too. Huzzah!

I remember the first time I tried the single player Protectorate campaign. I got owned badly every time by the Savage Tundra.
Now that I have 3-4 exotics, I can do it pretty easy though.

Did you beat it without having to buy cards?

Did you beat it without having to buy cards?

I used a few cards that I'd bought, but I would have won without them.
The strategy I tried just worked that time. Honestly the Tundra map seems to be the worst faction level simply because the map itself attacks your characters if they aren't arctic monsters. The other faction levels have their bonuses/negatives too, but it just seems more crippling.

I won by just mobbing relentlessly. I had 2-3 creatures on each of his, and just won out through sheer numbers. It can help to bait them (if they aren't ranged attackers) but moving 5 or so spaces from them, and let them burn their AP moving up to you. They use their AP moving and then can't attack when they reach you, then you can often do a double-attack round since you didn't have to move and have all your AP. There's a lot of luck involved, and I lost 4 or 5 times before I won, so just hang in there.

Best tactic I found with the Savage Tundra map was to just defend at my shrine. Send something fast to take the node in the south, then move the unit straight back to your shrine.
When I did this, the AI pretty much just left my node alone, presumably because there was nothing there. They did make a dash for it near the end, but I just put my Mogaslicer and Paladin down and they held it easily.
It may help that Ironfist decks are pretty much made to defend though. Not sure how well it would work with other decks.

You beat it with an Ironfist deck? Nice. You didn't encounter much of an issue with the map constantly freezing and damaging them? I tried using a K'Thir Forest deck and they got absolutely raped by the arctic conditions.

I had two Battle Matrons a Priest of Valdac and a Paladin who can all heal, so I managed to keep everyone alive pretty easily.
I also used my Matrons to buff my Sharpshooter and Catapult to massive damage levels. And I had a Griffin Rider out on the ice picking people off constantly. He got the MVP award at the end.

Ya you can win this for sure without buying boosters and in fact I played for some time without. In the end its just a great game. They do a wonderful job and both the stability and appearance of the game are top notch.

Nice. I made an Ironfist deck (hadn't used that faction before) and can see the appeal.

I loaded up on armorers and weaponsmiths and created a wall of defenders and constructs. The armorers and weaponsmiths sat in back and buffed the front line's attack and defense, and then I would kamikaze them when their own stats ran out. I had a couple spells that would would make the highest cooldown creature in your dock ready to recast immediately, so I would re-summon them right away, and begin buffing again. I had a Griffin Rider in the back with about 58 attack (thanks weaponsmiths) getting 2 shots a turn. it was all over after that. A Stone Colossus with Granite Bracers didn't hurt either. ;)

This game is all about creative combos. It's like Magic the gathering : The Board Game. :D

Yea, I didn't get the time to play pretty much at all this weekend. :(

One thing that does kind of irk me is that you can't replay any of the stages you've beaten until you go through them again. I made a Tundra deck with some new champs and wanted to just play a few Tundra stages for their exp gain. I beat it on the first try, and now I have to wait until I beat the other 3 again to play it. It might be faster if I just lose intentionally on that stage.

The other thing is that the AI busts out a half-dozen named exotics if you start doing too well. My best champs have nothing on those guys. One of em was a wizard with like an 8 space ranged attack, and he would do about 16-18 dmg per shot...weee. He killed 4 of my champs before I even got close enough to hit him.

....Still fun though. :p

Don't let it get you down. The learning curve is kind of steep for a couple of reasons.

You're timed...always. Once you are more familiar with the runes, your turns will go much faster. When I started, I almost always ran out of time.

Don't sweat it though, I lose as many as I win in SP, if not more. They use overpowered runes and don't have any Nora restrictions. IE, they can seemingly spend as much as they want, they always start with those green-ringed allies occupying a nora font, and their shrine is indestructible. Add in their never-ending supply of exotic (purple-ringed) runes, and honestly the odds are just always against you. But you still get XP even if you lose, so it still works. I also found the Tundra level to be one of the hardest, if not THE hardest out of the initial 4 missions.

As someone suggested earlier, send someone down ASAP to claim the southern font, then pull everyone away from it back to your base. The AI doesn't even seem to try to reclaim it if there are no champions hanging around, they just ignore it. Also find some runes that have detection to flush out all the stealthed units on that level. I usually then rush the northern font and kill the annoying green-ringed healer.

Also, I'm not sure if you know this because I only found out through playing, but to win you usually just have to kill a certain amount of their champions (in SP). So just concentrate on killing their units above all else, especially the purple exotics with red bases (named exotics).
Good luck. Sorry for the wall of text as well.

I have the same thing happen sometimes. I am at about 80% on my winning ratio but I have a tendancy to play very offensive and it usually pays off.
