View Full Version : Site Blocked At Work...

I was a sad camper. Showed up to work too bloody early on Monday only to find that my favorite down time site...HAD BEEN BLOCKED! The nasty "this site may contain inappropriate content" page greeted my attempts to lurk in the manner I was accustomed to.

And yet astute readers might note that I'm posting during work hours. How you might ask (or you might not...you might have already left to check the Caturday thread)?

Thanks to the points I've dumped into Speech, and a copy of Lying Corporate Bureaucrat Style, I've unblocked the site.

Which, if you're curious, is now a source of data on videogaming/new media for consumer research.

I am now a happy camper. :D

Well, I see you have already solved your problem, but to help others in aa similar plight, I offer Circumventor at peacefire.org (http://PEACEFIRE.ORG).

This sets up an Apache server on your PC, and you use the URL of that server to browse the sites you want. Essentially turns your home PC into a proxy for you. Works pretty well for me, it just has a problem with cookies and sessions sometimes, so the some sites might not work well.

Interesting site, I'll need to look into that a bit more.

In the short term, my favorite online proxy is Ninja Cloak (http://www.ninjacloak.com/). The good thing about them is the proxy supports a https connection which works well against strong work filters.

Oh. Really? Damn.

Well, I haven't yet played that one (it's next after Fable II). Can I take back my huzzah? :o

You can. I haven't played either yet so I missed them entirely...

Nope. I'm keeping it. No returns on huzzahs.

Er, then I move it over for your avatar. It always brings a smile to me face.

Whoah, whoah, whoah, whoah! You can't just go around moving huzzahs willy nilly!

Too late Dready.

To further derail, I've always found your User Title (I believe you used the same one at EvAv) to among the 17 or 18 cleverest ones.
