Does anyone here do screen printing? This is something I am definitely going to be looking into to make awesome shirts. I have been doing quite a bit of stenciling but with spray paint you never know what you are going to get.

Thats what I got last time. It looks awesome, but wasn't quite what I was going for.

Man I would love to learn stencil, there's no way to get gaming and geeky shirts in my country, so it's all DIY.

A friend used something called plastisol, it's kinda expensive in my home town sadly.

There is a box of terrible records in my apartment and we just use the sleeves and cut into them with a X-acto knife. Screen printing is a much more professional looking way of doing things. I am really looking forward to getting started doing it.

I've done a bit of stencil work in my days, as well as had some of my work screen printed. My friend and I are currently looking into buying some screen printing gear and starting a print place of our own.

That's enough of me showing stuff off. :p

Edit: Blast the image limits!

I really dig the "Trendy Bastard" poster, Tyler.

Indeed. That poster is awesome. I think I am gonna go get a screen, emulsion, and some paint today. Hopefully this turns out well.

Thanks guys.

Best of luck to you! I hear it is quite a trial and error process at the beginning so I wish you the best.

Also, let us know what kind of stuff you ended up getting. As I have said, I have been thinking of getting into it and I am curious the kind of money I would need for a bare bones startup. I haven't done much price gauging yet.

I have an art store around the corner from me. The ink is about 6 bucks and a screen is about 20 bucks. I just don't know how much the emulsion is.

screen, emulsion, cleaner, and 2 colors of fabric ink ran me 58 dollars. Time for first attempt. I'll post results later.

That sounds pretty decent. I remember seeing 'starter kits' for around $100. This seems more reasonable.

First attempt turned into a hot mess. But I learned a lot. I guess that is whats important.

I have a silkscreen machine back at the pad. I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet, but I think I might.

I have done some spray paint stencils (legally, of course :)) and thought that was fun. I never used albums, but instead I used those ugly folders (manilla folders I believe they are called)

But I just might have to try silkscreening some day soon.

My roommate made some stencils back in the day, and I sprayed some of them. A combination of some legal stuff, some not so much, though never on private property. Simple, one layer stuff, but I think they are awesome.

A concept that I thought was hillarious, mainly because it doesn't really mean anything.

Finally, a series of Katamari Damacy sprays scattered around San Diego.

Those are pretty neat CrazyD. I've been thinking about... uh, 'hanging' my art in a public 'gallery' lately. I may take some pictures when I do. Or maybe not.

Any updates, Narwhale?

Still trying to track down some inkjet compatible transparencies. The art store only has xerox and laser jet. Also considering getting a red lightbulb so I can apply the emulsion and not have it start drying right away. That might have been my problem.

Sigh. Another botched attempt. The emulsion dried too much and the paint wouldn't even go through the screen.

Those Katamari Damacy sprays are awesome crazyD, as is the Jesus poster. Good work.

Success! I definitely don't recommend using the internet as a source for how to screen print. You will get a ton of contradictory information. Pictures will be up soon.

Awesome. My friend and I are going to move forward with our screen printing endeavors soon. We're planning on getting the gear and try our hand at doing art prints, and then hopefully starting a cheap shirt printing business for smaller bands.

4 runs of color though. black, red, black red. That had to be done because on the first application of paint the shirt was folded over a little in the middle. But my room mate and I were very pleased with how it turned out.

I'm not sure what it's suppose to be, but congratulations with your success!

I just received a bunch of flyers in the mail that were screen printed and figured that this was the place to show them off.
