Heading out soon to pick up Fallout 3, but seriously considering Dead Space too.
What to do?
I also have Eternal sonata, Gta4, mass effect unplayed in the wrap, and quite a few others, should I by pass the 2 games above and get to these ones? Or should I just go ahead and pile another one on.
I cannot decide what to do, but I have all day today and tomorrow to play one game.
help please, anyone. Just say something and ill probably do it. Don't feel like making any decisions today.

Buy Fallout, Rent Deadspace.

Both great games, but DigitalFirefly nailed it. You're going to get a lot more replay value out of one of those two games.

Buy Dead Space if you like your games not to crash.
/edit - to clarify (in order to sound less like a whiny bitch), FO3 is a great game from what I've been able to play of it, but it currently has pretty serious issues which will no doubt get ironed out at some point. My advice would be to play Dead Space if you wanted to play something now, and hopefully by the time you finish, FO3 will be patched.

Wait... Eternal sonata is out on the PC??

Fallout 3 is the best new game I've played in a long time.
It's brilliant, and everyone should play it.

I have thought of getting Fallout 3 but I haven't played Oblivion or Mass Effect, either. I take that back, I have played a little bit of Oblivion on the PC.
My Little Pony Adventures.
Go play I Wanna Be The Guy instead of FO3/Dead Space. When you eventually get around to those two they'll seem so much better.

So how is FO3? You could of bought Dead Space then finished it and sold it to get FO3.

I agree with this man.
And I'm playing the 360 version, no crashes at all (unlike DangerousDaze mentioned), no problems whatsoever. I'm about 40 hours in and haven't done any main story missions. I should probably get started on that, huh? :)

You know what, it might be your 360 and not the game. A few months before my last 360 died it would crash in GTA4 all the time. Only this game, and no others. The longer time went on, I found the other games that would crash. Mass Effect was a bad one. I think it depends on the type of game and whether it reads from the disc a lot or if it caches to the HDD. Well, after sending my box back to MS I got my new one back. Neither Mass Effect nor Fallout 3 have crashed at all. Not a single time. I believe the drive on my last 360 was faulty. I forced RRoD to get MS to fix it for free. Considering it was my 10th 360 I thought that that was fair. No reason for me to pay them to fix this piece of shit when it's just gonna break again. This new one is quite, cool and runs smooth as butter. It seems they've finally got these things to work.
Either way, a couple of months from now if you find out more games are crashing, then I would suggest getting the 360 repaired. It will only get worse. If, however, you're playing FO3 on the PC, disregard everything I've just said.:p

you really do sound like a whiny bitch to be honest... and that's coming from the guy who started the "performance issues" thread in the PC section. Fallout 3 works fine for nearly 99% of people, for what ever reason you have been unlucky.
As for what to buy... fallout 3 by a long shot, i've near the end of dead space and even if i played the game twice i'd not have a 1/3 of the play time for my "good" run through of fallout 3... don't get me wrong dead space is a really awesome game but out of the two fallout 3 wins ever damn time

Is there a point in the game where Fallout 3 becomes really good? I'm at the first town, but I really can't get sucked into the game yet. I'll give it another try tomorrow.

Once the game eases up on you and you are capable of exploring thanks to getting a passable gun and some stim packs.. yes, yes it does.

Yep, as with the other Fallout games. The beginning is a little slow but it ramps up the further you get into it. Get yourself up to about level 10 (half way to the level cap) and see if it isn't a helluva lot more fun.;)
Also, from my own experience, the side quests are much more interesting and fun then the main story line. I would put off as much of the main story as you can until you've done most if not all the side quests.

Dead Space is the better game, but Fallout 3 will last you longer. Depends on how much you like the idea of playing Oblivion with guns.

I'm almost exactly the same. In Oblivion I have racked up just over 80 hours and haven't even gone to Kvatch yet. In FO3, I'm about 30 hours in and have yet to even begin looking for my dear old dad. The problem I have with games that let me go anywhere and do anything is that I want to do everything.

Left 4 Dead, Fallout can wait. Even if I did play Fallout for 6 hours today and I turned L4D on for 2 minutes.

These games are, like people have stated, CRACK. If you want me to become addicted to your game, reward me for exploring. Or, just allow me to explore. I will get lost in my own sandbox and have great adventures. Plus, these 40+ hours are spread out over the last month.
The game is full of great quests. Sometimes, while off on that quest, you'll stumble across run down grocery stores or hamlets that are fun to explore or solve little mysteries. It's incrediblely immersive.
I love games like Oblivion, Fallout, and old-school CRPGs where you can just wander around in a nonlinear world. Sort of a choose-your-own-adventure game.
I don't necessarily have a lot of time to game: I work a full time job and have a live-in girlfriend, but I've got it set up so that in the living room we have our large LCD where we watch movies and television together, but in that same room, or nearby anyway (our apartment has a very large open living space that encompasses a living room, kitchen, dining area and my computer area--almost like a loft, but not), I have a 32" LCD hooked up to my computer and 360. This allows my girlfriend to see and interact with me in the same vicinity (so she doesn't get left alone for hours on end in front of the other tube by herself) but also let me game to my heart's content. I rigged it up back in September I think and I've been able to cram 150% more gaming into my schedule as a result. Before I would have to wait until she went to bed so I could game. But not anymore. :)
I do have to keep the sound down at a reasonable level, but that's okay. :)

This thread highly offends me. How could you even compare the two? I own both. Now, my opinion of a good game is a FPS with RPG elements. You know, Deus Ex, Fallout 3. So basically fuck Dead Space and it's wanna be fright fest Resident Evil ripoff bull shit. What does that leave you?

To be fair, it is a System Shock ripoff bullshit.

all i can say is go pick through the fallout 3 thread... no other game in long time has caused the level of discussion that fallout 3 dose... i post on a little forum and the gaming section has been nothing but fallout posts for the last few weeks. There is just so much GOOD stuff in the game so many fun things to do that the game just generates really interesting stories. I've got a hell of a lot of hours in the game and i've not fully explored the world (which is the most fun exploring i've ever done) and i'm still hearing stories about things i've not seen yet. It's honestly a really rather special game.
Fallout 3 is great. It becomes too easy in the end, unless you make it challenging for yourself. I am going to be going through it here shortly again doing nothing but unarmed combat on the highest difficulty. Should be fun.

This is why I haven't started FO3. I don't need to start that addiction...yet. I'm almost there...almost...damn school...
I love the setup Kman...that is an awesome set up and solution to get more gaming. I want to do something like that now but a) can't afford another tv/LCD b) not sure if I have the room. I'm now in awe of all the gaming you can do and that set up...

We bought the extra television only because she wanted a better tv to watch her soaps on in the bedroom. Well, to save some cash recently we cancelle our other DVR and digital cable box, so she now watches her soaps in the living room. I stole the bedroom tv and made it my own. It's just a cheap Westinghouse, but it's a fantastic little cheapy.
If you get a television with a headphone jack, you're golden. That way the missus can watch her programs and you can watch yours without interferring with one another. And if she tells you to take out the trash, you can say you never heard her because of the headphones. :)

Pretty sure I'm late to the thread..... but....
Owning both, I'd say FO3 hands down. So much playability and worth every penny. Loved Dead Space too, but I got a feeling ocne i'm done with my 2/3 playthrough it will be getting sold on.

yes but you keep on going on about it... my 99% claim might have been a bit of hyperbole but given that i'm the person who started the fallout 3 performance issues thread in the PC forum you can't say i'm no aware that there or issues or think that the tech of the game is perfect.
Buy Dead Space if you like your games not to crash.
Is not you stating your opinion. It's you saying fallout 3 is going to crash more than dead space. Which is odd given i've not had one full crash in fallout 3 while i had a few with dead space. So you can dispute my claim all you like but yours was just as much hyperbole as mine... put that together with all the moaning you've done about it so far and yes you come across as whiny bitch
I get it, i do. You've been vastly unlucky but out of all the people i've seen talking about playing it there has only been a relativity small number that have had problems as bad as yours.
honestly i wouldn't have minded if you'd said that you've been having issues with it and explained what they've been and suggested that he might want to check out the issues thread or the tech forums on the official site to get an idea of the problems people are having but ya your post was full of hyperbole and you have been whining about it rather a lot.

As would you. FO3 seems to be something of a sacred cow around these parts and I understand why - I've really enjoyed the time I've been able to play it and I really want to be able to again. All I see is post after post from people who are having a fucking ball with it so you can understand why it pisses me off that I've been denied that experience.
Tell you what. This'll be my last post on the subject.

Hmpf, Fallout 3 crashed on me last night. First time, and it hasn't happened since. I dunno why either, I wasn't even doing anything. I was just standing somewhere while reading through the strategy guide. All of a sudden my controller went nuts, vibrating and the screen locked up. Crazy!

Fallout 3 crashes on me on average 6 times per play session (sometimes a lot more).
On the other hand, the game autosaves every five seconds, and I use quicksave a lot. I can go from desktop to in game world in under 30 seconds. I've never had to replay a large portion of the game due to the crashes and it hasn't really bothered me.
Fallout 3 is so much fun minor issues like crashing are ok :).

no one is saying that there are not issues and no one is saying there are not other people having a bad a time with the game as you are. I know sone other people that seems to have had it as bad as you but if you simply look at the number of people posting in the fallout 3 thread and the like and the number of people who are having truly game braking issues then it's clear that it's only a small number of people.
Dose that make it acceptable? god no but it happens and it dose suck that it's happen to you beacuse the game is fantastic and every one gets how frustrated all the talk of how awesome the game can make you. I know it would be driving me nuts... but there's not much any of us can do about it...
but ya, let just leave it... i hope you one day get to play it with out crashes :)
