Iron Thrones is a metal band from Minneapolis that I've been a fan of for many moons (formerly of the name 'Everest') and they have recently finished their debut album 'Visions of Light'. It sounds fantastic, all self-recorded, all self-produced, all self-released.

It's awesome, it's FREE and I think you should check it out. Support good bands doing things DIY.

For fans of: Between The Buried and Me, Opeth and other bands of the heavier progressive metal stylings.

Also, if you're the type who wants a sample of the music, most of the album is on their MySpace profile.

Hey, I got a response back.

Brendon,

I just wanted to personally express my thanks to you for your support! It really does mean a lot to us that you'd throw down some cash to help us get on tour and continue to do what we love to do!

You make what we do possible, and for that you are our hero!

Thanks man,

Listening to it now (not usually into metal, but so far it's pretty sweet). How can I not listen to a band who's album tagline reads: "It's fucking here."
Anyway, I wish I didn't have such a bad headache or cut off all my hair, because I cannot head bang. It is painful and no longer satisfying.

Brendon,

We're writing you to thank you for downloading "Visions of Light", and to thank you again for your support! I hope the download process went smoothly, and that you're enjoying our album :)

Your Comment: "I consider myself a music enthusiast (last.fm/user/TheShadowstorm) but metal hasn't been really a genre that I've been able to get interested in for a long time. A friend of mine recently pointed me to your website, and although I don't really know of any great metal bands, I'm willing to give this a try and furthermore, donate some cash because of your willingness to experiment with a non-traditional style of album distribution. Thanks for the music. I appreciate it."

It's cool to know that there are those out there (not many, I don't think) who truly support music for the sake of music! I know you said you're not really into metal, but I hope you find something in our music that touches something within you, as it does us. Truth be told, I listen to quite a bit of non-metal music myself (Muse, newer Thrice, NIN, Fiona Apple, Incubus, etc.). We've thrown around the idea of recording a few of our songs acoustically, sans-vocals, as we feel there's quite a bit of subtlety and musicality to our songs that doesn't necessarily come through as obviously with distorted guitars & screaming (especially for those who aren't into metal!). Anyway, I really do appreciate your support. It gives us hope that perhaps we can find a way to do this for the rest of our lives...

P.S. If you had any trouble downloading the album, please let us know! We've had problems with our emails getting trapped by spam filters, sometimes before the email even gets to your inbox/spam folder. This band kicks ass.

And this album owns.

Had a really nice conversation.

That is quite a cool response, Shadowstorm. It has made me sure to check out this album when I get home, and donate if I like it (maybe even if I don't).

Yeah, he seems like a really intelligent guy. Had a really good conversation about the music industry. I've only listened to three or four songs but I'm absolutely loving what I am hearing so far. It's important that we as music fans support artists like this. I donated just out of sheer principle.

Thank you guys for checking them out. Steve is a great guy. I'm going out for a few dates my friends bands next week to handle merch and stuff, and these guys will be playing a couple of those dates. I'm super excited to see them for a few nights in a row.

donated and downloaded. What a great band. The speed which they emailed me based on my comments was absurd. I think it was about 30 minutes after I downloaded at 2:30 they had already responded.

This album is still great.

It's also still free.
