Ubisoft's just announced Assassins' Creed 3: Liberation is unique for a few reasons. First, it marks the series' debut on the Playstation Vita, and having a big bopper like Assassins Creed on the platform is a good thing. Secondly you have protagonist Aveline: a black woman in Revolution-era New Orleans. Few action games have female heroes, and even fewer have females of color in the lead role. Late 18th century New Orleans was an interesting place, having recently switched hands from the French to the Spanish (it would eventually return to French hands before being sold to the US) and it's a neat place for an Assassins Creed title.

Sony and Ubisoft promise that the game will utilize the Vita's control and input functions to the utmost, and further promise "unique" and "exclusive" multiplayer content for it. You'll also have some content crossover if you own both AC3 and AC3L, with Aveline gaining a version of Connor’s tomahawk, an exclusive character skin, a multiplayer character and a complete upgrade of all ammunition pouches.

Assassins' Creed 3: Liberation will be released on October 30 exclusively for the Vita.

I'm disappointed I'll miss out on the only female AC lead so far.

Why will you miss out? Don't handheld game or just don't believe in the Vita?

Also I like what I'm seeing so far. Looks like some smaller draw distances and town so far though. But we did see her eagle dive so maybe it'll look bigger from above.

My most anticipated Vita game (even more than P4).

The dev team behind this has a horrid track record which is disappointing.

I like female protagonists, so I'll probably give this a shot. I hope it features the same naval combat as the console game!

Since getting an iPhone I haven't felt inclined to purchase either a 3DS or a Vita, and I don't see that changing.

Really don't know what OJG is going on about, it's being developed by Ubisoft Sofia. They don't have a bad track record, they have almost no track record: They've mostly done ports of games developed by other studios. They only have one original title to their name, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, which was fairly well received at the launch of the 3DS. The complaints that people did have for it were tied directly to it being a port from the DS rather than a game made to take advantage of the 3DS hardware.

I was about to say this.

For the record, here is the dev history of Ubisoft Sofia:

2008: Prince of Persia Classics (PSN)
2011: Prince of Persia Trilogy HD (PS3 & PSN)
2011: Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars (3DS)

2 ports/upconverts and a 3DS shooter with a 77 on Metacritic. They've also apparently been one of the studios helping out on ports to the PC and Mac. I really don't see where you're getting this "horrid track record" talking point.

And this is the first team you pick for an original AssCreed?

Well, at some point that studio either has to be put on a real project or it just rots with any talent moving on to bigger and better things, possibly with other companies.

I routinely judge games based on the history of the developer, but in this case, there is almost no history. There is no reason to think that they can't do a good job on this game with proper support from Ubisoft.

And Ready at Dawn didn't do much of anything before Chains of Olympus came out. Sure you don't want to play a demo before hating it anymore?

I'll always reserve judgment until I play it. I'm going to swamp with AC3 on the WiiU but hopefully it turns out ok for when I get my Vita next summer.

That's the spirit.

I will say this. That one article is right about blockbuster named handheld games being farmed out to B teams. Sofia is a B Team. Ready at Dawn was too. Damned good one who are finally getting real work with a next gen console game. They are only a B Team if they refuse to do their best. This beats having a UbiShanghai game. :p

I'm checking out the old PSP Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines and it's not that bad. Not great but not bad.

Well the PC ports were abyssmal for 2 and Bro. Even Rev has a lot of bugs, which Ihaven't encountered yet.

Fact.

Good for Vita to be getting more original titles although a port of AC3 would do fine for me.

I was all set for a port. To me, this is huge. Even if it is a B Team.

Just being in a single TV household makes it really hard to clear that console backlog. Plus all the overtime I've been doing!

Tell your lady there is a great new miniseries on called Assassin's Creed 2 and she should watch it between the hours of 6-9pm. :p

Slight problem is that I get home at 10-10:30, go to bed at 11:30-12, get up at 7-7:30, then go to work at 8-8:30. Then, on my day off she wants to go outside or something crazy!

Well the real fact is what I said. Ubi and PC don't mix. The come out and they are shit or at the least DRM'd up. You have no one to blame but yourself for keep bothering with Ubi PC games.

And this is a thread about Vita games. I can see if you were arguing about phone games. Save the PC vs other jibba jabba for a console game.

Huh? I had no problems with the PC ports of 2 and broho, or Rev. Well, besides bullshit DRM, but I never ran into anything else that would make me think they were shoddy ports.

2 and bro had many slowdowns on multiple computers, even though they don't have the same fidelity as AssRev, which runs perfectly.

Does that work on the Vita? I think it's only $10 now, I may check that out when I finally get a Vita myself.

Yep, I played a little and it seems like AC enough. I'm still trying to finish up Uncharted Vita. I'm on like chapter 22 and it just keeps going and going.

So because your friends got more money than sense we should all make stupid impulsive buys to play one game? Fantastic logic application there. We didn't say anyone stopped us, we just don't see the justification of buying an entire system to play one game, even if we can afford it.

muddi900

I am saying that's an option.

Narradisall
06-08-2012, 06:06 AM
We know it's an option, but I personally don't handheld game, so having a product I want via a delivery system I avoid it make no difference whether it's there or not.

I was just remarking it's a shame, as I like the game concept, but I choose not to pick it up, I'm aware I can. ;)

Funny thing, at home I've been playing more Vita after constantly telling myself to start on AssBros or Castlevania: LoS. Just seems so convenient to play and have Farcaspe or music on in the background.

Narradisall, maybe you'll end up with a consolized HD port. :p
*Didn't do that with the PSP AssCreed game though.
