Yeah, let's ignore all the other highly offensive drink names and focus on one that was made in a US pub in 1979 (supposedly) (a good while before the IRA became a more well-known issue and the terrorism showcased in The Devil's Own (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_devil%27s_own) was more commonplace):

The Irish Car Bomb is said to have been invented in 1979 in Wilson's Saloon, 76 Franklin St. Norwich, Ct., on St.Patrick's Day, by Charles Burke Cronin Oat. It was a variation of another drink he invented known as the Grandfather. Made of one half oz. (give or take) of Baileys and one quarter oz. (give or take) of Kahlua. After realizing that something was missing, Charles Burke Cronin Oat added some Jameson Irish Whiskey, as he did this he said "the IRA just showed up", due to the fact the mixture started to foam over like a little explosion. And with this invention, the Grandfather disappeared and a new drink, the IRA was born.

Two years later, while he and some friends where drinking IRAs and Guinness, Charles Burke Cronin Oat reinvented his recipe once again by dropping his shot of Bailey's and Whiskey into his half finished pint of Guinness with the comment "Bombs Away". And so the Irish Car Bomb came to be.

It's not American idealization of Irish Terrorism anymore than the IED is idealization of suicide/roadside bombers and terrorists.

But hey, let's go ahead and pour ourselves an Abortion followed by a Dead N***er to wash away the awful taste of that Irish Car Bomb.

3 oz Vodka
1 1/2 oz cranberry juice
½ oz blue Curacao liqueur

Pour the ingredients into a cocktail shaker and shake gently. Add more blue Curacao if the color isn’t purple enough.

No, trust me. I know more than you. :p Yes, twink is about body frame as well. Twinks are guys who are young (or look young) and are slight of frame.

Bears and cubs are both hairy men who are stocky or overweight. Bears are older, cubs are younger. Otters are hairy/scruffy men who are slight of frame, have a little tone, or are height-weight proportionate in general. There are many more, but I won't go into all of them.

People are generally taller now that our grandparents generation. Better food, better food at younger ages, etc. It was slightly more gradual here in the States, but if you go to places like Japan, it's night and day looking the younger generation vs the people in their 80s and up.

When I was living in Japan, little old ladies that were under 4'10" were a daily sight out in the countryside.

It's not just a matter of weight. The obesity epidemic aside, we are bigger, faster, and stronger than generations at the turn of the century. In high school, my friends and I that were on the track team used to get a kick of looking at early 1900's Olympic results, knowing that if we had a time machine we could go back and just simply dominate 90% of the track and field events as slightly above average high school athletes.

That's what I mean, I'm looking at my grandpa's uniform and wondering how even the average person is so much bigger now. In all of his Army pictures, his whole unit was that size so I know I don't just have a shrimpy grandpa. Or maybe he was in Shrimp Company.

Better food? All the pink sludge has mutated are generation. :p

So what did I do instead of going to New York with you jerks? I took a last minute trip to Denver to see old friends and some of my favorite bands.

That's me backstage after the show singing along with 3 bands. It was pretty great.

I wish I could have seen you guys too, though. =/

Yeah, it would have been great to have you along. Maybe then Krispy would have actually deigned to hang out with us. ;)

My grandpa's WWII uniform is tiny. They were all 18 and hadn't become a nation of fatties yet!

My father was 6'5" in Korea, but all the pictures we have of him showed a high-school kid that was slim but solid muscle.

Maybe I should have pursued a regime of abusive PT, starvation-level rations, massive blood loss and dysentery. Shame I have a soft spot for ice cream.

This is me with my grandparents today. One of the few pictures of me that I like, despite my eternally bad hair.

I'm expecting you to be looking for a phone booth to rip off your glasses and shirt and fly off somewhere. You have a Clark Kent look about you...or serial killer. Not decided yet.

In that case, serial killer it is! Now go out there and own it!

The only thing that needs to be shopped is that reflection on my glasses that makes it look like I have some sort of dent in my head.

Panthera - Aww, thanks! :D
