I see your point now, and agree, but I like that. It's one of those little flaws in the series that lends it its sense of urgency and otherness. But at the same time it does detract attention from what is the series protagonist: Roland Deschain.

But yea, Eddie and Cuthbert were always my favorites. Have you read the graphic novels? Some of them are a little mediocre, but most of them are pretty solid. Some, such as Jericho Hill and Little Sisters of Eluria, are awesome.

I'm back from vacation with more pictures of the keys:

This was the beach area at Valhalla Beach Resort in Marathon, FL. They had a nice hammock that I spent somewhere between a lot of time and not enough time laying in:

This was off the public beach in Marathon. Nice clear water. It was calm and quiet most days I was out there

Another shot from the resort. This is actually the new wallpaper for my phone.

Finally, I went on a glass bottom boat over the coral reef at Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo. It was nice but overly crowded. The pictures from inside didn't turn out that great:

http://i.imgur.com/XJS00.jpg

but I did get a nice one of the clear aqua water over it:

Also, while I was there I saw a cool piece of art painted on a swordfish bill. I didn't have the spare cash to get it then and there, but I'm contacting the gallery about purchasing it.

It's the piece underneath the painting of the sunset with the sailboat. I was looking for something unique and those looked awesome in person. I hope I'm able to get it.

I read the first two or three and they really frustrated me. That woman writes a lot of things that just feel and read like fanfiction. The art is so absolutely gorgeous, but...a female gunslinger best friend that was never mentioned? Come on. Secret tower defense machines? I always thought it, and the books seemed to agree with me, that it was years between the fall of Gilead and when Roland got back from Mejis...not like, the very next week.

Jericho Hill is my favorite moment in the books and I really don't want it ruined by that author. But if you say it's awesome maybe I'll give it a look.

The novels do mention Aileen on two or three occasions, but only in passing. I think in Book V Roland mentions Susan is the only woman who ever won his hear but that another, Aileen, came close

Robin Furth is decent, but she's no King. Thing is, funnily enough, Furth actually knows more about the Dark Tower universe than King does (indeed, she even wrote a several volume concordance that King approves of as the official "encyclopedia" for DT). I think the issue is not the writing itself, as much of it is lifted directly from the books. I think it's how it is written. The problem with the graphic novels is they use this omniscient narrator to tell the story, and that really fucks with the ambiance and mood of the story. I enjoyed most of the graphic novels, though I admit Fall of Gilead and Gunslinger: Journey Begins as being mediocre. Still, Jericho Hill and Little Sisters are high points. If nothing else, Jericho Hill is worth it because Jae Lee returns to do the artwork, and it's the best art in the series. It's gorgeous. As for the time gap, the graphic novels make it clear that it happens slowly over time, but does so poorly. Again, that whole omniscient narrator shit hurts, but the books suggest about two years after Mejis for Farson to sack Gilead, and another eight years before Roland's old ka-tet get killed at Jericho

So yeah. I went to a country, blues and bluegrass festival over the weekend, took a ton of pictures of bands and my campsite and around the area which was up in the mountains of Tennessee. It started raining at around 3pm Sunday and didn't stop till I hit Atlanta on the way home. Sometime Sunday night water got into my tent right where my cell phone was laying and now it's done. I'm just glad I'm in the middle of my contract so I can get a replacement. Those pictures are fucked though, sorry guys.

I haven't opened the phone up yet, I plan on trying later but I don't know if I have a microSD reader to get the photos off it. The phone was submerged in water though, don't know if that would get to the memory card or not.

Unless the phone zapped the card on it's way to the afterlife, the memory should (guessing, here) survive relatively unscathed? You should be able to tell by popping it into the new phone, otherwise I may have a micro-to-SD converter laying around somewhere I can mail...

Yeah, I'll probably try popping the old microSD card into the new phone and see what happens. The phone had visible water damage under the screen, not as bad as I expected though. The biggest issue though was it wouldn't recognize the charger anymore. It would boot, but soon after shut down because it was dead. At one point after I had been connecting the charger for a while, the phone just started going to the HTC start screen for a second before it went black and kept rebooting itself like that.

Never plug in or turn on a wet phone. Remove the battery and any panels/bezels you can, and stick it in a bag of rice for a few days. Once you've sent juice through a wet phone you are almost certain to short it out.

The micro-SD should be fine, as Wyeast said. You can get an adapter SD card that has a slot for micro-SD, for a few bucks probably at Radio Shack.

Actually I just talked to Verizon: pro tip, get an insurance plan. I don't have one and I either have to get a new phone or a certified replacement phone. The only android phone they offered me on that plan was a Citrus for $80. I read a review (http://www.infosyncworld.com/reviews/cell-phones/motorola-citrus/11586.html) for a Citrus and it sounds like something that would make me want to chew my arm off or chunk the phone at the wall. I think I'm gonna go with a Droid Pro which I can get for $400. It's expensive, but this is fall and I can always shift some of my gaming purchases to pay for it.

I can at least post someone else's video of one of my favorite performances during the festival. Konrad Wert aka Possessed By Paul James is awesome.

True story about this guy, I introduced myself to him earlier in the day and I'm up front for his set. As you can see, he's a one man band act and they have to do something for drums and since he flew in he couldn't bring in his regular set-up. He basically dug two pieces of wood out of the trash and used that as a kick-drum thing. During the set, the bottom piece of wood kept sliding out and I was front and center and at one point between songs he says "Josh, can you fix that bottom board there for me, just slide it in." On top of that, he even remembered my name and spoke to me any other time we crossed paths through the festival. Speaking of which, I should msg him on facebook at some point.

This is the part I hate about our cell system being dominated by fossil-ass CDMA technology. Can't just go to the store and pop your SIM into any ol' phone, nooooo... you're beholden to the carrier and their line of exclusive gear.*

* Yes, I know that AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM, but even then it's goofy proprietary systems so you can't cross-shop unless the phones happen to support both carriers)

Just got home from a day of helping my mother with things around her house. So sore that my muscle spasms have cramps.

It's worth it to help her out!

We (I) hauled about 500 lbs of rocks from our old lapidary bench out to her garden. We used to go rockhounding all the time when I was a kid. She's finally selling the lapidary gear and cleaning out that room. Her garden is going to be a glistening wonderland of jade, carnelian agates, opal, amber, petrified wood, geodes and tigereye. Some of it has been tumbled or polished so it should look odd but pretty.

Scraped and painted part of her garage. Moved her chest freezer.

Helped clean out some other rooms in the basement including the wine cellar. We found some of my father's Scotch and Calvados. She gave me a couple bottles of Scotch and she kept the Calvados for dinner parties. We opened the Calvados and had an impromptu tasting: One tasted like nasty brandy but the other; all labeling was in French and it had no liquor tax stamps anywhere on it (?); was amazing!

Also brought home a box from my Father's knife collection. Mostly work knives.

Sipping on a wee dram o' the Water Of Life while I'm posting. I don't seem to hurt so much anymore!

Scotch is hard to get drunk on. The taste and kick sort of work together to stop you from drinking it fast. I guess that's what makes it a gentleman's drink.

On that note, I was wearing a corduroy jacket and drinking Scotch at a show, and my friends wouldn't stop calling me Professor.

Go to a higher end hair place, find a cute girl to cut your hair, flirt lightly with said girl. And ask her to make your hair ready for the dating scene. Or to just use her judgement on what would look good.

That seems to work for me in several situations..

The secret to nice hair is to not give a fuck. Not in the sense that you should not care about your hair, but in the sense that you should just pick something for yourself and do that, and not care what other folks think. Then you can wear it with confidence, etc, and drip with that. If you're confident enough, you make it your style, and then you have a style. Then you're automagically stylish. Moving on:

I've been playing in a (ridiculous) punk band lately, so I look funny now, at least in my stage getup. (The mohawk probably looks funnier when I wear my hipster street clothes, actually).

http://i.imgur.com/1PnhJ.jpg

Here's me before a show, so I shaved the sides down and stood up the hawk a bit:

I used to brush my hair forward to hide it, and instead now brush it fully back as if to say "yeah, this is my solar panel, what of it?" and people have been a lot more complimentary. I immediately identified Panthera by his gambeson, despite only seeing it once before in that video he posted that time. If that doesn't establish my medieval nerd-cred, I don't know what does.

I'm managing the graveyard shift at a shirt printing company in Miami. Hence the cellblock walls in the warehouse. I'm also the network administrator here which is quite the separation in responsibilities. But if you're in any kind of legal issue, Better Call Saul.

I can't believe I'm such a dick that we never met before I left Florida. My mom's still there and so are the girlfriends parents, so I promise to rectify that when I end up back down there sometime.

It is made by the same guys that made the coats Amanda and I were wearing in the last photos I posted. Shrine of Hollywood is the brand name, in case you were curious. I don't know if they still sell this shirt or not, though. I got that shirt via an ebay bargain.

Ultima Thulian

Well, they're real glasses. Without them, I'm blind as a bat. So if Civil swiped my glasses it would in turn likely just blur his vision. That's kinda ironic. It would also have the effect of making Civil look cool, even though he isn't, so that's also kinda ironic.

Well, I'm lucky in this regard, because on our first date I told Amanda to go wherever she wanted, and the first place we visited was a bookstore. It was a good omen. So going to the bookstore is kinda like an old tradition for us. :p

My local area is pretty dead and finding new things to do is always a challenge. So I understand how you feel. Basically, I try adding twists to old favorites if I can.

Oh, no, I think that's an excellent idea. I did it all the time. One of the hottest dates I ever had was taking a girl to a book store in Santa Monica who spoke French. She pulled out a book (in French) and started reading to me there in the store. We made out a little bit, she read, made out, she read...

It was awesome.

...god I fucking suck.
Nah.

EDIT:

There also used to be an amazing bookstore in Madison (WI) that had a B&B above it. Double fucking whammy time. Have some sexy time upstairs, go downstairs and browse books. Then back upstairs for the sexy time.
