I had a dream once about a Mexican wearing a Che T-shirt that moved into my house and kept making vegetarian meals and singing "Give Peace a Chance", while constantly trying to sexually abuse my neighbors Schnauzer.
For a little while there I thought you were talking about me, but I saw no reference to a "hippie" so I know you weren't.

That may or may not have been a CoG member.
If your mom had a dollar for every time she said that you'd have a nice inheritance waiting for you.

That said, Civil, if you are ever up Canada way, you do have a place to crash. Need to warn you though, in my moving to Toronto, I can't guarantee our neighbor will have a Schnauzer, or frankly, even a dog.
Thanks man.

On a semi-related note, doesn't a would-be entrepreneur like yourself have to fly to New York to, I don't know, secure some venture capital or something? Don't you have power meetings to attend? (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=18353)

Would love to make the meetup, but frankly unless you all are cool with me dragging my 2 year old daughter around with us, its really not going to happen.

Moving farther from home, so my local "look after my kid for a night" network has dropped to almost nothing.

Her birthday is just past Christmas, and trust me, 6 months makes a hell of a difference.

I'm shocked so many people didn't know I was a dad, I though it came up a few times. Not to mention that I quit my job to raise her ( and develop Flexamail obviously ).

I dunno. It seemed like the right thing to do. As long as I say I'm going to donate my hair, every time I trim it after it's grown out might as well be me stealing hair away from them. This way, in another two years, it'll be that long again and I'll donate again. That's all!

Oh, and I also thought it would be nice to look my age again. For two years people have been assuming I'm 22 or older, because I have long hair and often a full beard (though the latter from laziness). With a buzz-cut and a mere goatee, I think I might have gotten my appearance to 19 where it belongs.

There is a temple in India where thousands of men and women go everyday to have their hair cut off for a Hindu goddess. The women's* hair is washed, separated by type and color, and eventually sold in the United States as very expensive, high-end extensions. The men's* hair largely ends up at commercial bakeries, where an extraction from the hair is used in baking bread. Yes, most of the bread that you buy at the supermarket contains chemicals/enzymes derived from human hair.

Edit: Ahaha, unrotated photos

As promised, short hair. This is the first time I've had it short in almost four years -- I wasn't even done with puberty when I first put it in a ponytail. So, this is a completely new and unseen face here. I think I look my age, though, so with any luck people will stop asking me about senior classes or beer-buying. Also, terrible sunburn on the nose. Shit's peelin' and scabbin' and -- ugh. Without further ado, then:

This is my best Mags impression. It is also the expression on my face 95% of the time, so the hair is best understood in its context.

This profile shot makes clear how short it really is:

Your barber is right, LOL sell most donations to cover "costs" rather then actually using the hair. The wigs they do make don't even get given away, those are sold too. It's a corrupt, pathetic organization like so many "charities" these days.

I know. That's why we're going this year. The missus (who's never been) is afraid it'll be Atlantis before long.

Doors, yes! And the (somewhat) silent vaporetti drifting along the canals in the evening, with sometimes only a drifting light letting you know a boat was going by.

Yeah, we lucked into a cool, breezy night our second evening in Venice and it was amazing. We walked around and got lost several times, each time discovering these incredible old canals and buildings and doors, fer crissakes! That's right, I said doors. Old, amazing, doors.

Honestly Jacob, it's not that difficult. Just save money. I've been able to travel quite a bit because it's a priority for me. If that means living like a pauper for several months, so be it. I can't remember the last time I bought "new" clothes, spent a ton of money on a particular object, etc. It's all about budgeting, even on a shoestring. You just have to make the right choices and stick to it. Right now I'm socking away money to try and go to the UK before I start school, but it's hard because of wedding and moving and school expenses. But it is possible and I know I can do it.

EDIT: Jacob, it might not seem like it but you can. My first overseas trip I was making $5.00/Hour and I ate, quite literally, rice and beans for months so I could pay for it. For example, I have two people I could stay with in London, but flying there alone would cost nearly a thousand dollars, if not more.

It can be done. I've done London on 15 Pounds a day. And since you have accommodations it gets even cheaper.

As for flying costs, I only ever travel in the summer if it's to a wedding or other special event. Otherwise it's October - March/April. High Season will kill your wallet.

In a past life I did Xyban, and frankly I prefer smoking to being a paranoid, emotional insomniac. Granted, a non-smoking paranoid, emotional insomniac. Nothing like being up at 4 in the morning and an informecial for starving Africans comes on.

When I quit for good, I did the first 3 days pure willpower, then started chewing gum on occasion, especially out at bars or on the patio.

They are pretty cool. They vaporize a fluid containing water, nicotine (in an amount you can specify), flavoring, and a glycerin propellant. None of the carcinogens, none of the odor (besides a faint scent in the air which fades quickly), doesn't stain your teeth or hands (well, unless the fluid leaks), and legal to smoke indoors anywhere in America. With the right e-cig, you can get a good throat hit and good vapor production, making it feel similar (never quite the same, but similar) to actually smoking. My biggest problem when switching was that I couldn't find a good tobacco flavored e-fluid, but I've since moved on to other flavors. My favorite currently being atomic fireball flavored.

I do like Lagers. Several of them in fact. Budweiser is simply a crappy beer, lager or not. Miller, Bud, et al. I can clearly taste the difference between those and something that is higher quality.

Edit - The bitterness has nothing to do with it. I love IPAs, as a matter of fact. It's hard to place my finger on it, but a lot of it is the fact that they taste so watered down.

As not a smoker, I was considering one of these. Hell, probably would if I found one with a cigarillo like tip.

I rarely go out, but most time, this involves a Vodka drinking version of myself. This version also bums a cigarette(not limited to) from time to time. This guy made the original Drunk Thread for crying out loud.

I was just thinking that maybe during two times a year I revert, this would be doing it, but closer to not doing it at all. That smoking sensation or nerves really never played into why I do it. I guess it's just something to do. I've been a second hand smoker for like 29 years though.

I quit smoking cigarettes over 6 years ago now, but last fall started smoking cigars. I'm thoroughly in love with them now. It takes awhile for your palate to adjust, but there are plenty of mild cigars to get you there. I tend to smoke one every day or so during the summer and about 5 during the entirety of winter. :p

I actually considered checking out e-cigs as a nice drinking counterpart for awhile, but cigars have trumped everything now. Too bad there is almost nowhere you can smoke them...even in places you can smoke cigarettes. I find the hypocrisy mind blowing.

MagGnome
07-23-2010, 06:14 PM
That might have something to do with the fact that cigars have a MUCH stronger smell than cigarettes. :p I personally would rather smell a cigar than a bunch of cigarettes, but I have no idea what dozens of cigars at once would smell like. Actually, I guess I do, as I walked into one of the smoke shops on Grand Avenue once. That was terrible.

My sister called me today and started telling me about her zoos (she has two) on Facebook. She then went on to tell me about the new Zac Effron movie coming out and how we should go see it when I visit Nebraska next week. Further evidence that she was adopted.
