Sega and Gearbox have announced that Aliens Colonial Marines will be released on February 12, 2013. Previously it had been slated for a fall release, but like many other high profile titles it's slipped to the winter. As compensation they've released a new gameplay trailer.
Colonial Marines is the canonical sequel to Aliens, and continues the story of what happened after the fall of LV-426 aboard the USS Sulaco.
Gearbox head Randy Pitchford notes that while it seems like Colonial Marines has been in development forever, it's been in development about as long as Borderlands and Brothers in Arms. It was just announced much earlier in it's development cycle than those other titles.

Didn't a site member work on a version of this at some point?
I'm excited for the game, even though I have no clue exactly what it will be at this point, if it's just L4D with xenomorphs, I'd be fine with it. I do remember hearing things about sealing doors and vents at one point, so who knows what the game will be.

I'm not going to pick this up on day one, after the fiasco that was Aliens vs. Predator. If it turns out to be good, that's fantastic, but I won't be on board early for this one.

Fuck. Yes.
Been waiting how long on this? Gearbox, see my Fry from Futurama jpeg.

The last AvP? Yeah, not amazing, but that was Rebellion, who are a bit hit and miss. Their first outing with the franchise was great, in my opinion.
Gearbox I have higher expectations of.

Sega is what gives me hesitance. They tend to not leave their games in the cooker long enough.

God damn do I love me that sweet noise that the Pulse Rifle produces!
Also: 100% IN GAME FOOTAGE! Give me a break. I wasn't going to confuse that with CG. Gearbox, you guys aren't known for making games that push graphical boundaries.

Yeah, I laughed when I saw that line pop up.
So this takes place immediately after Aliens? It mentions Ripley is dead- are they just calling her KIA after the events of Aliens, or is this actually after Alien 3?

If they ignored Alien3 and Resurrection entirely, I'd buy it on day one on general principle.
But I don't think that's what happening. It's after 3, keeping Ripley's death as canon, but (I think) making it so that the Sulaco actually didn't crash on the prison planet, but instead 'something else happened' that explained the wreckage instead of it being the Sulaco.

Sulaco didn't crash, it was just the escape pod. This fits right in with continuity since the ship would probably still be floating around out there somewhere.

Shows you what I know. Fair enough.

Good reason for concern. Gearbox have had this since 2006, so I'm still hopeful.

Every time I've read write ups or previews they've been gushing, but this has always left me kinda' cold, despite being an absolute nut for the franchise.
Maybe I'll get more excited closer to release.

I thought I read it was between 2/3 and explains the lead-up to Alien 3.

More camera cuts than an expendables movie. They didn't really capture the whole cautiously walking down a corridor where your heart beat is in tune with the sonar pulse of the sensor in the trailer.
Not feeling it. Backburner.
