I don't really see the point either way. I mean, it is just a Wikipedia article, yet some people really seemed to be getting their knickers in a twist about it. Now both parties have taken it to a point where other people's work (not that it is exactly valuable...again, just Wikipedia) will be lost over a pissing match.
Maturity is something no-one in this little fiasco can lay claim to.
It's not about pissing matches, or drama, it's about factual accuracy and applicability to an encyclopedia site.
Let's face it, it's just a bloody fan forum to begin with, and hardly noteworthy for an encyclopedia, but if it's going to be listed at all, then it needs to be reportedly fairly, accurately, and without bias.
That has clearly been shown to be a significant amount of effort to maintain, a level of effort that is frankly more than is worth applying to an article about a silly video games forum.
Ultimately then, it becomes far easier on everyone involved to simply delete the damn thing to ensure that at the very least, no actual inaccuracy is allowed.

Just be prepared for the same thing to happen to the CoG entry. It was up for deletion already (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Colony_of_Gamers), but it was apparently voted to keep (or, at the very least, the debate was tabled, it appears).
EDIT: nevermind. You knew that already.

This is pretty much my attitude about it. In all honesty, neither EvAv or CoG meet the notability standards for wikipedia and it's just as well for the article to go away if Phil is going to push things to get his way on a site that isn't his.
Like I said, it's not the result I was after when I put in the protection request -- I was hoping and administrator would actually have interest in helping resolve a dispute rather than just dump the whole thing -- but I don't feel bad about it ending up there either.

I wouldn't exactly call that a resounding victory. ;)

I wouldn't exactly call that a resounding victory. ;)I wasn't making a judgment call, merely stating fact (or at least, what I consider fact based on what little I actually understand of Wikipedia's regulations and methods for deleting and/or maintaining notable articles).

Exactly! Evil Avatar and CoG not withstanding, there are a ton of things on that site that you wouldn't expect. And yet tons more that you would expect to be there, but can't find at all. That's kind of what makes Wikipedia something of a joke in the first place.

Well, that kind of makes it win-win for certain people.
Perhaps there's just a disconnect here since I never felt horribly wronged by Evil. (That's not to say that I find those of you who are to be foolish, I'm merely conceding that my investment in the site was not as great.) After all, I didn't sign up here to be one of the 23 knife wounds, so to speak, but merely because this is where the conversation went. So, to each their own. :p

I'm not sure why the COG split needs to be there though, it's the history of the site sure, but it isn't like the Gamers with Jobs break off is there either.

It probably should be.
I personally feel that if people are going to be giving evil money under the guise of donations they need to be made aware of who they are giving it to and how he has treated those people who not only have donated to the site in the passed but made it what it is today. I am pretty sure if people knew who he was and what the money was being used for far less people would donate or feel they were conned after they did donate. That way the people who still donate do so under full disclosure therefore eliminating a lot of the issues that caused this in the first place.
I also feel that cowards and liars shouldn't profit off the backs of those more generous and trusting.

FWIW personally I think that's what makes Wikipedia great, and the movement towards trimming that niche stuff, quite frankly makes Wikipedia both less interesting and useful.

CoG can stand on its own two feet and doesn't need the "charity" of a mention on EvAv's Wiki entry. My view is that it should just put EvAv behind it entirely and not spare it another moment's thought. I'd start by closing this thread - we have to move on.

I agree with Dangerous Daze. This is a discussion that's been both informative and divisive, but it's not been without merit.
Because of this I have decided to close the thread, but leave it stickied for a period of time. If you have any questions about this decision, please shoot me a PM - don't create a new thread.
Thanks to everyone who contributed.
