Canada continues to innovate in the indie gaming scene. Phil Fish and the Kokoromi Collective--the developer of the upcoming 3D space, optical illusion indie game Fez (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fez_(video_game))--has already created a new 3D space, optical illusion indie game before Fez is even widely available. Called Hypercube, it is being unveiled at an indie art and gaming event (http://www.sat.qc.ca/post.php?id=20&year=2008&month=11&day=19&post_id=1646&lang=fr) in Montreal tonight.
"The gameplay of super HYPERCUBE is kind of like that "human Tetris" event on those Japanese game shows... but with cubes. You have a cluster of procedurally generated cubes right in front of you, and your goal is to quickly line it up to fit through the hole in the wall that's moving toward you, by rotating the cluster with the controller. To see the hole in the wall on the other side of the cluster (and thus figure out what direction to rotate the cube to line it up) you have to lean,"The game unveiled tonight will feature motion-sensitive stereoscopic glasses that act very similar to the Wii remote head-tracking system (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw) developed by programmer Johnny Lee earlier this year. The glasses will allow you to "lean" around the cube to see how well your cube structure is lining up to the hole in the oncoming wall. After the game's premiere tonight, it will be available online for download where "leaning" can be performed by an Xbox 360 controller hooked up to your PC.
