Stats and pics if you got 'em

Mine:

Case - Antec 900
PSU - OCZ GameXStream 600W
Mainboard - ASUS P5Q Pro (Intel P45 chipset)
RAM: OCZ Reaper DDR2-800 5-5-5-18
CPU - Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 4.0 Ghz
CPU Cooler - Zigmatek HDT-S1283
GPU - Sapphire AMD HD4850 512MB
GPU Cooler - Zalman Vf900Cu
750+320+250GB HDDs

9 total fans!

I was using a AC Accelero S1 on the 4850 until recently. Stupid thing was not mounting properly, I may return it or RMA it. The Vf900Cu keeps my 4850 under 52C load (all three temperature sensors) while it idled over 60C with the stock cooler.

CPU - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
GPU - Nvidia 8800 GT

I don't remember all the fancy names and numbers of the other stuff, even though I put it together myself.

Audio - ASUS Xonar DX
Memory - OCZ 2x1GB DDR2 @ 800MHz
Monitors - SyncMaster 226BW (22" Widescreen) and SyncMaster930B (19" 4:3)

The case is actually pretty old, probably 5 years, and originally housed a Athlon XP 2800+ system. I upgraded the PSU (not sure on the wattage and I'm took lazy to extract it to find out) when I put together the Conroe system a couple years ago. Storage is nothing special: 250GB and 500GB SATA drives and a 320GB IDE drive I'm too lazy to move everything off of (all Western Digital).

I bought an extra 2GB of memory in July when I upgraded to the 4850, but even after flashing to the most recent BIOS I am unable to enable PAE and thus address all 4GB. Attempting to install and run Vista under the 3.25GB config was nothing but tragedy, so I've stuck with XP.

I've been considering building a Wolfwood from the ground up now that I can get a sweet discount on the CPU, but I may just wait for Nehalem next year. My major concern is that early adoption of Conroe landed me with a mobo that claimed it could support 8GB and when it actually couldn't.

I built this rig two years ago for around $1k and named it DeathStar because I thought it was awesome. It's been a great desktop, and with one of Intel's first affordable dual core processors and a decent graphics card its been able to run everything I've thrown at it, from benchmark game Crysis to Adobe Premiere.

Other than a new sound card to replace the one I'd been using for six years, I haven't had to make any upgrades and I'm not planning on doing so for at least a few more years.

No kidding! I'm poor now. :D

The card is awesome and the noise level isn't so bad. The temperature is a concern though. When it's working hard I've seen it go up to 85-90 or so.
From reading a couple of reviews, I've gathered that it's a common problem with the card, but that it's made to withstand it. I'm more concerned about everything around it.

Most of this stuff is stock. Please don't mock...I'm not a PC gamer usually, and I've still been able to get my older PC up to speed for virtually everything.

CPU: AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+
Mobo: Stock (I have no idea, but it is PCI-E).
GPU: ATI Radeon HD 4850 (great card for the price of well under $200 at Newegg).
RAM: 1 GB
PSU: Corsair 650w (another great deal at Newegg for just over $100).
Cooler: What now? Stock...
Case: Stock...
Sound: RealTek AC97 Audio
Monitor: Dell 22" SP2208 WFP (A very nice deal at just under $300, with a 2ms response time and decent contrast).

I bought my computer stock off the shelf three years ago and have not used it for gaming very much. Last month I spent $300 bucks on a new video card and PSU and can actually run Crysis on minimum (I miss recommended on my video card RAM, system RAM (easily correctible) and CPU).

PC gaming is...MAGIC! :D

I started at 32 inches, then bought the 37 one. In my eyes, the 37 inches is the best fit when you're as close as I am to it. I find it PERFECT for counterstrike. I can see everything, as far away as people can get in that game. I'd never go any smaller after playing like this.

Is the E8400 still the best value coming out of Intel?

Updates are tricky. If you're running a vanilla kernel, which means you're using a Core2 processor, some of them can be installed using the standalone download versions and a simple command line trick to get around the Apple check.

If you're not then it's harder. If you're lucky, someone releases a patched installer and you can just run that and update. That's what happened to me with 10.5.3. Unfortunately, no one ever did a standalone patcher for 10.5.4, just new full install discs, so basically if I want to update I get to reinstall from scratch. I've been too lazy to do it lately, which is why I'm still running 10.5.3.

It seemed to show up quite a bit in this thread. Any motherboard suggestions?

Or, if you want me to get away with a complete derail, Crossfire or SLI?
