All discussions on trades, waivers, etc. can all be posted in here seeing as things are going to start heating up between now and the 27th of February as is common knowledge to all you puckheads out there.
Here's what I read on TSN today on some rumours circulating:

Also. Anthony Stewart from the Carolina Hurricanes was just put on waivers. Anyone interested in picking him up? 6'3 230 lbs. grinder.

I hope not, I am really not a fan of luongo. he can be a great goalie but he lets stuff get in his head too easy. I would much rather see lu on the trading block than schneider, although that contract makes it hard. Hopefully Eddie lack is an nhl stud if schneider goes.

Massive overpayment for a soon to be UFA. Also where would he fit in in your top 6? Apparently he'll want $5 mill per season too on his next contract so that's a pretty stiff pay for a rental. I think the Canucks could get more for Schneider. Also why would the Canes do this? They have Cam Ward. They don't need a new number 1 goalie.

Hey, zealous rumours :p
Somebody needed to start the discussion.
Seriously, though, the Canucks will need to get something for Schneider as well as dumping a salary (Ballard) to make room for something in return.
How about this?
Canucks will deal G Cory Schneider, F Mason Raymond, and D Keith Ballard to Anaheim for F Corey Perry
That sounds like a ridiculous trade rumour even to me.
Basically, though, Schneider and Ballard are going to move, it all just depends on where. I would still love to see Weber in a Canucks uniform.

There has been talk of Perry to the canucks, which I would welcome. all i can say after looking through the contracts, 2013-2014 is gonna hurt.
Edit: If schneider is traded before I come up to vancouver to see a game, I am starting my own riot.

Back to Schneider...general consensus is Gillis will not trade him unless it's the "perfect deal". Anything less and the fans will rip him a new one.
Ballard needs to go still. Salo is a UFA, but will probably retire even though he is actually having one of his better years.

The New York Islanders signed centre Frans Nielsen to a four-year contract extension worth a total of $11 million.
Nielsen will be paid $2 million in the first year of the contract, followed by $2.5 million, $3 million, and $3.5 million. The average annual cap hit is $2.75 million.

Nash to the Leafs?? I'd love it (even though he's not the center we need) but I don't want to sell the farm for him. Carter would be more feasible but it's not a contract Burke likes so I doubt the Leafs get either one.

With how Paul Holmgren likes to throw draft picks around for trades, some of us Flyers fans have taken to calling draft picks "skittles"... it helps ease the pain of thinking of not growing from the draft.
For instance :
The Dallas Stars have traded defenceman Nicklas Grossman to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a hand full of blue Skittles, and some green ones.
See? Much nicer. =)

Meanwhile, on the receiving end, we've taken to calling them "magic beans." Take a look at the Oilers' trade history and overall results since June 19, 2006, and you'll have a good idea as to why.

A pylon and a conditional pick for a bottom-six prospect, a minor-leaguer, and a pick. Man, what a rousing trade deadline. ;)
Speaking of the Preds, I talked to some fans, and they figure that my question about the theoretical price for Hemsky is kind of irrelevant: the Preds have to go all in this year, because Suter's a UFA. So if they pay a top D prospect and a high pick for Hemsky (or more for Nash), it doesn't matter, because the future is now. From that perspective, and knowing that the Oilers don't give a shit what I want, if they can make Blum/Ellis + pick for Hemsky work...alright. :(

Things really heating up between the Toronto and Columbus. Leafs GM Burke flew out to New York to meet Blue Jackets GM Howson right after the Leafs Saturday game with the Canucks. Apparently it was an 'unscheduled meeting' and also there was a BJ's scouts are at the Marlies games. One of the higher up scouts too, not a typical scout. This is pretty irregular. Where there's smoke there's fire.

I know. I don't get it myself but he definitely would solidify the top 6 who has a lot of struggling players (Kulemin, and MacArthur). Doesn't make sense but the Leafs are also very weak on the boards and having Rick Nash's size will help keep the puck out of the defensive zone a lot longer and also which will reduce the GAA and keep a cycle going.
I think the Leafs need a Goalie first, but who are they going to go get? Ty Conklin, or Antero Nittymaki (who were both waived)? No thank you. Leafs don't have the assets to get a good goalie like Cory Schneider, Jonathan Bernier or Sergei Bobrovsky whose apparently available and on the block.
No good goalies are available that the Leafs can nab (with their assets of D depth) except for maybe Nabokov in the Island but I doubt Burke goes for him.

Long Island is on a roll right now, and Snow seems anxious to keep his hands on Nabokov to try to make a miracle happen. Crazy, given the likely outcome, but hope springs eternal this time of year.
Hyperglide: Maybe Nash helps a little, but you probably have to give up someone significant from your Top 6 in the first place for it to make sense for Columbus, and a blue-chip D prospect, too. Like you, I just can't see this deal making sense for Burke in any way. He needs D & G help, badly. (Besides, as Elliotte Friedman pointed out this week in 30 Thoughts, Burke's biggest deals tend to be quiet until they're done.)

Only knock I really had on Carter was that he tends to tighten on the stick a little too much in high pressure situations which hurts his scoring touch some.
But other than that, the guy's got a wicked fast wrist shot and can do damage if he's happy and healthy (two things NOT on his side in Columbus.)

We are both wrong. I went off the TSN press release, which said 39, but apparently, he is 37. However, he currently has 12 goals, exactly what I said. He is actually having a better than typical season.
He is an over the hill player of midling offensive abilities. I can understand resigning him, just not at 2mil a year, and especially not for 2 years.

Mohammed Aulie (great nickname), is a pretty good Defensive D, and I think the Lightning will love him. Pretty good trade on both sides.
only reason i know of him is because he played for Canada at the world Jr

Canucks Get Zack Kassian and Marc-Andre Gragnani from Buffalo for Cody Hodgeson and Alexander Sulzer

The only major impact ive seen is Nashville now has slightly better depth at the cost of some future potential.
Over all, the league really didn't change much. Rather the least impactful trade deadline day in my recent memory. Then again, not a ton of sellers and not a ton of UFA talent in the pool so it was bound to be a pretty quite deadline.

Wow that's the biggest trade of the day. Both those guys are going to be great players. CoHo is more of a contributor now but Zack Kassian is a beast and will add a lot of tenacity to Vancouver, in the years to come.

Seems like a potential second line player traded for a future 3rd or 4th line center.
Hard to say how it will turn out, but it feels like Vancouver gave up the better player in the deal.

it is a big bet on kassians future and ability to essentially come beat up boston.

The problem is that with the Sedins / Kesler, Hodgson really didn't have much potential to move up to that 2nd line. So for his growth, the move to Buffalo is probably best for him.

Better player now perhaps. Trust me Kassian is a beast and is one of only a few players from the Sabres (formally now), I would kill to have on my team.
Kassian is a Winger too so he can help out on the 3rd or 2nd line and is much bigger and grittier to match up with Lucic or whoever else in the playoffs.
Hodgson wins too because he wasn't going to get past the 3rd line with Sedin and Kesler there.
I think this is a rare win for both sides. Only that the Sabres get smaller.

I understand the logic and I agree Vancouver needs to get bigger, I just still think when history judges this one, Vancouver will have lost. Young talented centers are a much rarer commodity than larger wingers. Especially centers on route to having 40-50 points in their rookie year with limited ice time.
I had always pretty much pegged Hodgson as a key piece of Vancouvers future.
Trade will be good for Cory though. I could see with increased ice time him turning into a solid player.
Boooooooooooooooooooring.

Yeah, basically agree. But then, when Nash was the biggest fish, and is status as trade bait was "maybe, but not likely", there really wasn't a lot to get excited about.
Again though, not a lot of sellers, not a lot of pending UFAs and too many teams still in contention, thats why you get stuff like this.

I am shocked at the lack of action in WAS. I sorta expected Knuble to be moved, and certainly expected Hamrlik to have a new home today. I actually envisioned him in Vancouver.
Knuble would have been a solid addition to any real contender team.

I thought I heard some rumors one night about him. For some reason I thought he had a broken hand or something or I maybe thinking of someone else.
Not a big trade day. Was surprised to see Boston acquire all these Dmen, now with Mottau and looks like their just packing on the defense and with Greg Zanon as well.
EDIT: Also noticed a few of the players even the ones I mentioned were all ex-Devils, even Commodore.

Well, nothing will ever top the Gilmour trade; just ask Serapth. :)
The arguments I have heard have me coming around a bit. Petry's emergence sort of made Gilbert expendable; they play similar games. This should now give the team a solid shot-blocking D-man with a puck mover for each pairing.

At least now I have talked myself into hopefulness. ;)

It's odd seeing Buffalo make trades to build to the future. I'm so used to seeing them make one trade at the deadline, usually for a player that's supposed to help us in the playoffs who inevitably fails to do anything at all for us.

Steve Tambellini can eat my ass.
Jeff Petry is at best where Tom Gilbert was 4-5 years ago. Gilbert is our top defenceman, can defend pretty darned well, and is a good puck-mover, too. Schultz can defend, but he's not a puck-mover. This is a clear down-grade.
And the worst part is, if we'd gotten Schultz for not-Gilbert, I'd be perfectly happy, because that'd solidify our top four, and maybe Petry edges out Barbaro next year. This is one step forward, two steps back.
