So, I happened to see this box set (one of two) of an HBO series called Carnivàle a couple of weeks ago. Picked it up. Watched the first couple of episodes then went back to the store and bought the second season.
I finished the last episode last night and I thought I'd drop you guys a line considering you all probably saw it years ago!
I really enjoyed it. It was cleverly written and well acted, especially by the world's scariest man whose very voice alone is enough to strike fear into the bones of mortal - and immortal - men and women.
The ending to season 2 was balanced enough to serve as a "full stop" but could also lead to a season three should the impossible become possible. There were a few loose ends still not tied up but most threads were tied off (or razored off) neatly before the end. It's just a shame Jonesy had to die to "power" The Usher's rebirth. :(
So what did you guys think? Anyone see it? Let's shake some dust!

I think it ended before it really hit it's stride, we were finally starting to figure out the link between hawkins and the priest... It still makes me angry that theres no conclusion

Yeah, according to the website they actually had four seasons planned out, each one supposed to be centered on a different set of good/evil characters and the show ended prematurely. Great show for what it got though, I managed to get my whole family hooked. I was really fascinated by the complicated mythos they worked in, plus I have a fascination with traveling circuses so that drew me in pretty fast to begin with ^_^

Yeah, it was a great series, but I too was disappointed with where they decided to drop it. There was still so much to reveal!

Much like Deadwood, I would do... grave and unspeakable things to get a final season on the air. You know, a final season that was written with the knowledge that it would be the final season.
Altho in Deadwood's case it was really the fault of the shows creator and main writer. Guy was given too much rope and never finished anything on time, kept driving schedules back and running up more bills to the network. What a dick!

You hit the nail on the head. Carnivale and Deadwood were my two favorite HBO series by far. Both of their lives were taken long before their time. :(

The problem with Carnivàle is that once you've seen it, every other series out there is bland...
I thought they actually planned a trilogy of two seasons per book?
The Carnivàle story was originally intended to be a trilogy of "books", consisting of two seasons each. This plan was abruptly changed when HBO canceled the show after the first two seasons.
And that's the thing with every episode, it begins and ends. No "please wait for next week to know if our hero will survive this incident". The show ends. We can rest.
(I'm looking at you, Jack Bauer and Sookie Stackhouse)

Both I and my wife loved/loves this show. Died to early though, as many of HBO's shows.
HBO giveth, and HBO taketh away.

ah, yeah you're right, it was going to be six seasons total, not four.
I wish somebody would pick it back up but that's probably about as likely as Firefly magically coming back.
