Epic Games is another publisher who will add its Good Old Games to the ever-growing GOG.com games catalogue.
Thanks to the agreement with Epic Games, GOG.com users will get a chance to play DRM-free versions of the renowned Unreal series including Unreal Gold, Unreal II The Awakening Special Edition, Unreal Tournament GOTY and Unreal Tournament 2004 Editor's Choice Edition. “Epic Games redefined the first-person shooter with the Unreal series, and we’re very happy to welcome them to the growing list of companies that share our vision of digital distribution,” said Adam Oldakowski, Managing Director of GOG.com.

All of those have been on Impulse DRM free since right after Stardock rolled out their service.

They have been on Steam for some time also (using only Steams DRM).

$10 is great, but hasn't Epic always eventually patched the disk-checks out of their UT games since.. UT?

I didn't know that. That's cool, I'm glad to see more DRM free services. I did the GOG post because I'm a big fan of what they offer. I'll have to check out Impulse as well.
I bought unreal anthology for 9.99, it includes those 4 games...

Original UT didn't even have a disk check as far as I can recall. I did buy the GOTY edition though, so it may've just been patched out by then.

True, I believe it was by the third patch, or at least the first community pack that the disc check got removed.
Relic does the same thing.

Are people still playing UT2004? I haven't tried re-installing it and it may be easier to just buy it than to pull out my 6 CD set :o
UT3 is a great little game, but it can be a ghost town most nights online with about 5-10 servers being viable.

Am I the only one a little disappointed that the pricing on GOG is trending towards the 9.99 max far more often than not?

I wonder how much the publishers have to do with that.

Oh I have no doubt it's probably the publishers. It just saddens me when the vision of a project like gets undermined by the publishers, even though it's pretty much inevitable in this industry.

"Newer" games tend to be that price. It seems games released before 2002-03 tend to be $5.99.

Good luck with that. Electronic Arts is breathlessly awaiting those e-mails, I'm sure.:p

Should have gotten the "director's cut" one a year later on DVD with all the expansion stuff. ;)

Well, I was actually aiming for the DVD that came out on the day of release, but the store was sold out and I wanted it that exact minute, so I took what they had (which was the cd compilation). Still worth it for all the good times I had with that game :)

I thought this was a cool addition, but I've had the Unreal Anthology for quite some time that I picked up for around 15 dollars on gogamer. I lub me some Unreal Tournament.

This, please. I love Jill of the Jungle and Duke Nuk'em 1 and 2. Get me some Dare to Dream (or was it "2 Dream?), also. I love me some old shareware classics, as well!

It's amazing how many games, in the past, that I thought were full games that were actually shareware games.

Some of that stuff you got a lot of game out of your 1-5 bucks. Then there were shareware games like Ken's Labyrinth which was the whole game. I wish I hadn't given all of those away 8-(. Oh well, not as if I have a floppy drive readily accessible anyhow 8-P.

I just wanted to update the thread on the latest update from GOG!
Arx Fatalis is up on Good Old Games now for 9.99. I absolutely loved this game on the Xbox, and I can only imagine that it is even better for the PC, so I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a really fun adventure game that has been dipped into some good RPG stuffs.
Also, until the end of December 8th, they are having a promo where if you buy two games for 9.99, then purchase a third game that is 5.99, you get that 5.99 game for free. Just be sure to buy all three of the games at once to get the discount.
Amusing story that probably no one cares about: When I got my Xbox for Christmas, Arx Fatalis had just recently come out for it. I ebayed it to save a little bit of money (I was a high school kid!), and the person I bought it from was the creator of Strangers With Candy. That just always amused me.

Arx Fatalis is a great game. I have it for the PC, and I played quite a ways into it before becoming distracted by other games. I wish I had finished it, as I really enjoyed the parts that I played. Definitely one that I need to go back to at some point.

GoG has Stonekeep, thus making them the greatest game service ever. I know what I am doing this weekend.
EDIT: I hope these play well in a VM. Only one way to find out!

That is quite the haul. I've been avoiding GOG like the plague, because Steam already sucks up enough of my money. I'll be hitting up GOG soon enough though, and I'm sure I will buy a TON of games.
You have an account on GOG, just like Stardock or Steam right? I can re-download the titles I've purchased over and over, correct?

Yup, and the games are DRM-free. It's more like Blizzard's web offering then Steam. I bought the games in OSX and then installed them on my VM. They have the manuals in PDF form as well.

Yes they are linked to your log in and you just download an exe (If i remember correctly) so you could burn it to a disk too if you wanted as it does not have to check online or need a cd key etc.
Now go spend my friend!

Great to know! I really enjoy buying games digitally, just as long as I can download them again whenever I'd like. That way I don't have to worry about keeping track of CDs and DVDs.

I browsed through there a bit, and I already know I'm going to be spending a lot of money on GOG. They deserve it.
