Square Enix is making good on their promise to expand their development efforts in the United States. The Japanese giant is founding a new development studio in the Los Angeles area, and tasking them with creating an action title based around a new and original IP.

A posting on the career section of Squeenix (http://www.square-enix.com/na/careers/#j03)' website reveals that the studio is looking for 3D Modelers, product managers and software engineers who have experience with the Xbox 360 and Wii hardware.

Square Enix has made expansion into North America a priority this year, in particular pursuing more titles aimed squarely at Western sensibilities and tastes. They recently announced (http://www.colonyofgamers.com/cogforums/showthread.php?t=2375) that they would be publishing Gas Powered Games' Supreme Commander 2 worldwide.

i love S-E as much as the next person...it's nice to see them making a better effort to branch out into other genres.

I just want to see more Action/RPGs from SE. I'm burnt out on SE straight-up RPGs like FF.

Kingdom Hearts, Secret of Mana, they have the ability for great things in that field. They've proved the can dominate in the RPG genre, they should apply that level of attention to the others.

Good to see Squeenix stepping up to the plate. Nobody wants to play their crappy anime games with BioWare, Bethesda, and Blizzard putting out such quality stuff, along with Fable 2 and The Witcher.

Make more things like TWEWY or Vagrant Story and I'll be a happy man.

More quality games can only be a good thing for the market. Especially if they also come out on the Wii :D.

They dominate...doesn't mean it's always good domination. And you forgot TWEWY...there most original title in quite awhile.

Spoken like my fellow TWEWY obsessed fan. Yes SE...original stuff...please...

I can't speak about TWEWY, as I haven't ever played it. I intend to, but that's just another title to add to my mountainous backlog.

But I agree about your domination comment. Mostly because I'm sick of FF games. I still love a good RPG, but the entire FF universe has simply run its course, FF 1-12 was enough for me. I'm retiring. :D

I heartily welcome their efforts in other genres at this point.

Bad time to talk about making an Action RPG?

But on another note, the Final Fantasy action spin offs on the handhelds have met with decent buzz. I just can never get into a Squar game because I never get a sense of being a bad-ass. A Bad Ass does not have quarter inch thick wrists.

Well, what I see here is more of these type of developers having to cater to this market in order to survive. Their dependable market is gone.
