Where are you getting 2014 from? The article says That is why we are excited to share with you that starting in Spring 2012, we will be taking this process one step further and conducting ongoing open playtests with the gaming community to gather feedback on the new iteration of the game as we develop it.

It later talks about how DDXP is merging with GenCon next year, but they mention that as one of the reasons they want to do NDA'd playtesting for DDXP'12 attendees, as a special treat to the con's last hurrah.
