She's awesome. I'm not ashamed to be the proud owner of a fru-fru dog.

I submit to you:

Where-in she's horribly murdered by 11 yr/old son, and is preparing to eat his brains.

Oh well, can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs.

OH GOD she's so cute! I love little fluffy dogs! What's her name?! OH DEAR GOD she's cute. Look at her little paws!

Her name is Opal. Her full name is "Princess Opal Snowflake", says my wife.

OK, I admit it, I made that up on the way home from the breeder. I'M NOT ASHAMED!

I love it when dogs get old lady names, like Pearl or Virginia.

QueQueg, I have seen the face of ultimate Evil and its name is Opal.

p.s. - Rini, your sig is now larger than most of your actual posts.

I used to hate little yippy dogs until I had one. They are so completely awesome, and your dog is adorable.

Cute puppy. We just had to let our 9 week basset puppy (from a one puppy litter) go join her new family last week. It was the first time I have actually felt really affected by it, as she was an only puppy she had some problems she refused to eat unless I hand fed her and as we were weaning her she had to be kept separate from her mother and the other grown up bassets are too clumsy, but she didn't have any siblings so she had sleep on my chest to keep warm and get socialised.

But she is with a good family with acres of land no neighbours and lots of animals and an older basset to look after her. So all is good. Start training her young, not sit and tricks and stuff but the important stuff they are so much happier and calmer if you do.

We're going to do obedience training as soon as she's technically old enough. Only 7 weeks now. We've started with crate training already, which she's really taken well to. I was amazed actually. We (humans) think of the crate as a cage, but she thinks its her little home.

Yes, crate training is essential IMO, if I may ask, what kind of food are you feeding?

Yeah crate training is amazing, depends a little on the dog. Gives them some security. One of our girls loves crates so much that when we bring them out for whatever reason she will throw all the other dogs out of the room and just collect bones in them and sit there, the smaller the better. She absolutely loves them. The only one that doesn't like them is the only dog we have that wasn't crate trained. Seven weeks is very young but also extremely fun.

Yeah, I was thinking about that, too. I figured the Whunpo quote would be temporary, and when it does get removed (which'll probably be soon), my posts'll probably be about the same size as my sig. :(

Looks like you're guilty, too. ;)

We're mixing Bil-Jac (I think that's right) with "regular" (as-in less expensive) puppy food.

She's pretty easy-going.

Looks exactly my last pup Nelson, biggest heart in the world, and one brain cell. It was like having a Disney character in my house.

I want a puppy. But I know I'd hate myself for it eventually.

Anybody got advice on how to sneak pets in dorm rooms? We're only allowed fish.

Also, Princess Opal Snowflake is so ridiculously cute -- especially in conjunction with the name -- that you owe yourself a high five and a hug.

That's an awesome dog, cute indeed.

I've been thinking about getting a dog again but I don't know if I'm ready for it yet.

She's a pekingese-poodle mix. A "peka-poo", if you will. I have some dander allergies, so hypoallergenic was the only way to go. Poodle mixes are good that way.

Peka-Poos are made from the two most dangerously cute breeds of dog in the universe. How can you survive with something so devastatingly adorable around you at all times? You must be a GOD. :p

Eh, I'm not a big fan of small dogs.

Still, congrats, furry animals are great fun!

The trick is to have a roommate who doesn't mind animals and just keep it out of sight of the RAs. My friend kept rats in a cage in the closet for the three years until she moved off campus. When she wasn't in the room she'd cover the cage with a little makeshift pagan altar, nobody ever bothered it ^_^

and now it's time for.... OMGthatisthecutestpuppyever! Seriously, she's adorable, congratulations on joining the ranks of fluffy dog owners. Also, good for you crate training, I wish I could do that with my cats.

Seems like you need some form of feline fish costume.

Queqeg, while it wouldn't have been my choice of dog that certainly is a little cutey.

My advice to you is simple:

Train it. Even little puppies can learn. They love you! You're the pack leader! Even a leetle beety puppy wants to play with you and make you happy!

A lot of small dog owners, in my experience, do not teach their small dogs obedience because they figure it doesn't matter since the dog can't hurt anybody seriously. Maybe not, but it sure makes for an irritating dog. So train it in basic obedience - come, sit, lie down, stay, shake, etc. Those aren't "tricks", they're needed. And make sure it's good on the leash as well. Heel, stay, etc. It's not torture for dogs - they love the interaction and they REALLY love the praise they get when they do well.

One thing I haven't seen too many other people teach - my wife and I taught our dogs "Go see Wil (that's me)" or "Go see Christie (the wife)". We did it by standing at the top and bottom of the stairs, and taking advantage of a puppy's natural inclination to run around and see everybody it can. This command is VERY useful sometimes when you need the dog to leave the room.
