Admit it, there are some sports you watch just for the injuries. So what better way to shine a light on some of sports most unfortunate participants than to create a thread dedicated to them. They deserve their moment in the sun, after all.

I'll start with this one:

Gillingham winger Chris Whelpdale suffered an unusual injury in the 2-1 Boxing Day win at Crawley (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/16240711.stm), as a tackle split open his scrotum.

The 22-year-old was given treatment to the wound, which occurred late on in a victory that extended the club's winning run to nine games.

"It's a horrific injury," boss Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent.

"It's absolutely disgusting. He's going to be very sore, and I'm sure his wife won't be too happy either."Please spoiler anything that could be considered NSFW or otherwise upsetting.

I'd heard of a similar injury during a rugby match, where the player got it stitched up and went back in to play and win the game. Not sure if that was a myth or not.
