jockeying for position the Lions are. I'd prefer the 5th seed rather than the 6th seed as we have a good shot against the cowboys/giants, but we'll have to play the saints or 49ers sometime i guess.
Also, it's crap that we'd have to play away games against the horrible NFC east (assuming we're the 5 seed)...we have the better record.

NFL should definitely re-seed. It's one of the few flaws of their playoff system. A weak division win should ONLY be a guaranteed playoff spot, not a home game.

I've been impressed with the turnaround of the Carolina Panthers. Cam Newton is a freaking rock star!

Maybe next season we can get to the playoffs! Yeah, it's probably wishful thinking.

As far as I can see, it's the only one.
I mean, it's fine if the winners of the divisions hold the higher seeds. But homefield should be determined by regular season wins.

I would have said good luck to you but you're up against the Saints who are looking for a bye which means they'll bring all their weapons to the fight after destroying Atlanta on Sunday. Carolina are 3-8 in the conference, 3-4 on the road and the Saints are on a seven game winning streak. With all the respect in the world, Carolina are humped.

Edit: There's no UK station showing the Panthers/Saints game either this week. I live in the wrong country.

I desperately hope the Bengals pull out a win. It's been such a good season (for them), that I'd like to see them go and give me something to look forward to.

If/when they disappoint me, I'm rooting for Detroit.

I play fantasy football so my loyalties are screwed. I had Brees so I was rooting for the Saints a lot. But I've been a 49er fan forever, also a Seahawks fan. But I also like Aaron Rodgers.

I couldn't be happier with the 49ers turnaround this year.

The 49'ers have had a shockingly good season this year. So glad I scooped up their K and D/ST for my league.

Effing sucks that marino lost his record. He had that and that alone. Guys like Manning and Brees I have no beef with, it's going to suck next week when the PATS get past his record. A joke when you have 20 minutes to throw and Marino did it with no receivers in a time when football was football.

Oh well...

On the converse of this - what is the point of getting the divisional win then, you know? Both sides of the argument have merit, and I completely get where you're coming from.

Also, I look forward to Matt Flynn decimating the Lions - he knows this is his shot to prove he can be a starter, so I can see it happening (that and I'm going to the game, and I hate home losses.)

I agree that the divisional trophy is important, but the current system just doesn't address teams that are playing hard and getting wins.
Look at last year, did the Seahawks REALLY deserve to be in the playoffs at 7-9? Tampa Bay and New York would probably disagree if you said yes.

Granted, the current system does work more times than it doesn't (which is probably why they haven't changed it)...but the fact still remains that (the case this year), the Lions are being punished because they happen to be in the same division as the Packers. Just like the Bucs and Giants were being punished for being in the same division as the Eagles, Falcons, and Saints.

As for the Pack, if they were smart Rodgers would play. Do you really want the Lions to be hot going into the playoffs? 99% of the time it's the HOT team that wins, not the best.
we can score in bunches

Ask the Saints if the Seahawks deserved to be in - I'm pretty sure they would give you a resounding yes. I think it's a damn good system right now, otherwise the divisions are pointless and you go two conference top x teams - a little too college-like for me. Want to get to the playoffs? Be a better team.

And yeah - not sure what to think the Pack will do Sunday. We'll see, regardless, I'll be there losing my mind per usual.

Ever have one of those days were you score 41 points and its still not enough?
Come on Lions...
You know, I've got a good feeling about Saturday...I think we may be able to take New Orleans, if we can continue to put up those kind of scoring numbers.

Only problem is, New Orleans can put up the same numbers the Packers did.

Understood completely.
but, even you said that game could have gone either way.
if we're in a track meet, I think we have a chance.

and that's about all I can hope for.
