It's happening right here in my backyard this year (I had first dibs on tickets, but declined due to cost), and Team Canada's announced their final roster (http://tsn.ca/chl/story/?id=382708). Gotta say that I'm highly disappointed they cut one of the top goalies in all of junior the last year and a half (Tyler Bunz) over his camp performance; I think that year and a half is a little more indicative of his true talent than three or four days at COP, but fuck it, what do I know?

So understanding that the WJHC is predominantly a Canadian phenomenon, do any of our American or European members have a stake in this? I know it's gotten bigger in the US since the team started competing more consistently the last few years, and I believe it's on NHL Network again this year.

I will watch it most likely but I don't follow it throughout the year, pretty much just watch and see who is coming up in the following years.

These games are pretty much as close to a holiday tradition that I have. Always good hockey.

I had the luck to attend the games here in Vancouver a few years back and it was a ton of fun.

One of our NJ Devils prospects made the cut in that of Scott Wedgewood for Canada and will be one of the starting goalies. Looking forward to see how he'll do as part of our future right there.

Last year's tournament was a real disappointment, with a couple of teams I expected to be competitive playing like total shit (Czech Republic, I'm looking at you). There's always a bunch of really bad games (Canada vs. Azerbaijan is always good for a laugh, but it's terrible hockey), but last year was worse than usual. I'm hoping for a rebound this year.

In any case, the medal round is always compelling (as is the annual NYE game between Canada and the other good team in their group), and that part's here in Calgary this year. Should be a fun party atmosphere. Curse you, finances!

That was a really exciting 3rd period at the WJC Canada vs. Russia. Losing 6-1 to almost comeback and tie it and hit the farking post! That was the most entertaining hockey game I've seen in a looooong time. Holy shiznit.

Hit. The fucking. POST!

Team USA looked like garbage this year. As an aside, I'm really psyched about the Wild's prospect Mikael Granlund on Team Finland; he looks like he's going to be great.

Get to see him again as Canada takes on Finland for the Bronze. He looks pretty awesome. That one goal he scored was wicked. I should put it in the Dirty Dekes thread.

Ah, that sound...I recall Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final between the Rangers and the Canucks where Lafayette hit the post in the third which would have tied the game...

Great final period, though. Too bad it took so long for the boys to wake up.
