Kind of late but better then n'er. 10 seasons and $254 million dollars. Holy schnikeys. The LA Angels of Anaheim becoming big players in the FA season thus far.
Huge power shift in the American League West.
As a footnote. They just signed CJ Wilson from the Rangers too for a good chunk of cash. Now one of the largest payrolls in the MLB.

I've already made a thread about MLB free agency.

I'm ok with us just using separate threads to talk about the deals too, but I think one comprehensive thread should suffice for this topic.

I second Troggles.

Just saw it after I posted it. Still a deal of this significance deserves it's own thread anyways.

Definitely overpaid considering he's most likely on the decline.

Wasn't the point of having the sports forum to get away from having all encompassing threads?

True, but I find that a free agent signing can only lead to so much discussion. The all encompassing threads that I had a problem with were the ones that were for discussion of the entire sport in one thread.

They will never EVER be the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. California Angels or Anaheim Angels, but NEVER Los Angeles.
That's all that needs to be said here. :)

If they get paid less, than it's just the owners making more money. I'd rather see the money go to the players than them.

Going to be good for the Angels for the next few years. It is the last 5-6 years where he will most likely be hugely overpaid.

I think he'll bring in enough revenue in his first 5 years there to cover the last 5.

I read yesterday that the Angels signed a new local TV deal. $150M/season. The old deal was for $50M/season. They have already paid for Pujols, Wilson, and more.

GMs are a lot smarter at this than us. I find it hard to criticize a team for how much the pay a player. It's not like they're just throwing money at players with no thought (most of the time).
The only way I see this hurting the Angels is if there was a hard salary cap. Since there isn't, they should be fine.

I agree. The only time I thought the Angels were crazy was last year, whne they so generously took Vernon Wells off our hands. :)

I am so happy that Mr. Pujols has found his way out of the NL Central, and even better, the National League all together! I feel sorry for the AL West teams that have to see him crush their hopes and dreams 20 times a season, but I've watched it for the last decade, so I'm not THAT sorry. :)
Also, Albert Pujols will remain a dominant hitter for awhile yet. He had a slow start AND broke his fucking arm this year and look at his numbers. Dude is a beast.

I've got pretty mixed feelings about this. He gave us many great years as a Cardinal and I would have liked to see him retire in red, but I think we made the right decision to not sign him for such a huge ten year contract. At least he moved to the American League so I can root for him and not worry about him crushing us.
