Wow, so it actually happened! Cool beans.
I don't follow many sports regularly, except for motorcycle racing. Road racing that is, like World Superbike and MotoGP.

The largest curling club (http://www.stpaulcurlingclub.org/) in the country is in Saint Paul. It shares a parking lot with one of my favorite bars, The Happy Gnome (http://thehappygnome.com/).

My name is Troggles, and I'm a sportaholic. My addiction to sportahol began at a very young age.
I watch and follow the NHL, NFL, NCAA football, and the MLB on a fairly obsessive basis. My favorite teams are the Buffalo Sabres, Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeyes, Northern Iowa Panthers (my alma mater), and the Chicago Cubs. As you can see, I have not been blessed with championships or even many wins in the last... 103 years.
I will also watch tennis, MMA, and NCAA basketball from time to time. I really get into NCAAB around tournament time. Watching my Panthers take out Kansas a couple years ago while I was still a student there only pushed my interest in the sport further.
I played a lot of sports growing up, but quit almost all of them by high school. Roller hockey (no ice near me), basketball, and baseball. I play tennis and basketball casually with friends when I get the chance, and usually destroy them (especially tennis).

As a person who will probably not use this forum, the proper course of action is to call for its deletion.
Or to simply not read it, but that doesn't make any sense at all. No, better to complain that it exists.

I don't read your posts very often, therefore we should remove YOU!
Other than that, I'm glad to see someone realize that just because they don't want to use it, they won't be hurt by its existence. It's not like we were clamoring for a place to share child porn.
I will watch almost any sport with Golf being the exception. It's just one of those sports that doesn't click with me. I've played a few rounds and even took a golf class in college for my Phys ed requirement and I just don't get it. It wasn't that difficult for me or anything, just boring.
The sports I actually follow instead of just watch now and then are NCAA Football and Basketball (Woo Pig Sooie!!!) and NFL Football (Go Pats).

Naw, we love Dan here. ESPN loves to make him out to be a villain, but the bottom line is that he's willing to spend like crazy and do whatever it takes to bring Cleveland back into contention. I'll take that any day over a cheapskate owner who doesn't care and will perpetuate mediocrity so long as they turn a profit.
I didn't agree with his initial comic sans outrage, but all of his actions since then have been way overblown. His role in the lockout wasn't nearly as hardnosed as sports outlets made it out to be. ESPN would have you believe that Gilbert was some sort of evil ringleader and that simply isn't true.
His most recent letter regarding the CP3 trade was not only private, but well within his right to send. As a partial owner of the Hornets, he gets a say. Was he being vindictive? Possibly... probably... but he made some good points. His final comment about 25 of the 30 NBA teams being turned into the Washington Generals has a sad truth to it.

Formerly a Cowboys fan, but I got sick of them choking all the time. I don't have a specific NFL team to root for now, but I do believe the Packers are gonna run away with it all this year.

It's nice to have ownership who will spend money, yes. But...
I didn't agree with his initial comic sans outrage, but all of his actions since then have been way overblown.
That pretty much screwed Cleveland out of EVER getting a marquee free agent while he's there. Sure, their chances weren't good anyway, but who the hell would want to play for that blowhard?
His role in the lockout wasn't nearly as hardnosed as sports outlets made it out to be. ESPN would have you believe that Gilbert was some sort of evil ringleader and that simply isn't true.
I pretty much took everything that came out of the lockout with a grain of salt. Except for Michael Jordan screwing himself out of free agents forever. Because...wow.
His most recent letter regarding the CP3 trade was not only private, but well within his right to send. As a partial owner of the Hornets, he gets a say.
I disagree. The whole time the NBA has owned the Hornets they've said Demps gets autonomy. And then, when it looks like they are going to make a move that (might) help the Lakers, Gilbert gets all angry about it and Stern caves. That's a bunch of crap, and it shows that the NBA either needs to sell the Hornets immediately or just contract them.
Was he being vindictive? Possibly... probably... but he made some good points. His final comment about 25 of the 30 NBA teams being turned into the Washington Generals has a sad truth to it.
I dunno. The NBA has ALWAYS been that way. Half of the teams in the NBA have never won a title...hell, the Celtics and Lakers have won like half of the available titles since the start of the league. Saying that it's going away from competitive balance is laughable, as there has never really been balance (and, unless they remove free agency completely, there probably will never really be balance. No offense, but if you're a 25 year old guy who grew up in a big city, who do you want to play for? The Celtics/Lakers/Knicks/Bulls or the Cavs/Timberwolves/Pacers/Bobcats?)

Hockey is pretty much the only sport I regularly give a crap about. (Points to avatar.)
That being said, I have been known to enjoy the odd lacross or gridiron football game, and every four years I will watch the fuck out of some curling, along with basically all of the Winter Olympics sports that aren't figure skating.

I used to like Baseball, but my team was the Astros and I could only take so much before I said "FINE. If you're going to play like that from now on, I'll just leave!"
So I'm just now eagerly awaiting the return of NBA as I got addicted after the Mavs took out the Lakers during the playoffs. One of the reasons I hated Basketball was due to the fact that "Hey, wanna watch the finals?" usually meant "Want to watch the Lakers win again?" Thus, I pledged my undying support for any team to take them out of the running so I don't have to watch Kobe and his weird alien smug-face.
:D
I also like football but not enough to get mad when my team loses. I think the Astros broke me on caring about losing after all this time.

Yeah, that was my biggest issue with the comic sans meltdown. Ugh... that whole ordeal sucked on so many levels. I'll never let myself care that much about a sports situation again. I'm hoping that over time, Gilbert will fade from the spotlight, and our young draft picks coupled with the fact that desirable markets will all be at cap, will allow us to land some decent free agents in 2-3 years. I'm not holding my breath, however.
I pretty much took everything that came out of the lockout with a grain of salt. Except for Michael Jordan screwing himself out of free agents forever. Because...wow.
Agreed. I've always known that Jordan was a jerk in real life, but man... Like you said, it's hard to tell anything for sure, but I got the impression that Gilbert was one of several owners wanting big changes and moved to a moderate stance later in the negotiations (which is the reasonable thing to do when negotiating)

Oh, I think the situation as a whole is a load of crap too, but you can't put it on Dan Gilbert. My point was that, messed up as it is, Dan was within his right to voice his concerns over the trade (and it isn't like the email he sent was a public letter for all to see). I also read that Gilbert's letter was sent AFTER Stern had already vetoed the deal, but I'm having trouble finding the source. Either way, it isn't like David Stern answers to Dan Gilbert. I'm with you though... the NBA needs to sell the Hornets pronto.
I dunno. The NBA has ALWAYS been that way. Half of the teams in the NBA have never won a title...hell, the Celtics and Lakers have won like half of the available titles since the start of the league. No offense taken. We're all pretty self aware here in Cleveland. I don't blame the free agents at all for not wanting to play for the Cavs. I guess I just had some false hope that the new CBA would do something, ANYTHING to make small markets more desirable.
I think that what it boils down to is that I'm a Cavs fan before I'm an NBA fan. I don't get super excited watching the Lakers and C's battle it out again and again. I want to see changes happen that will benefit my small market team. It affects the way I look at characters like Dan Gilbert.

So are some of the supersized threads, like the NHL and MMA threads, going to gradually break off into different subtopics for the big news, with the megathreads being for more day-to-day commentary?

Most other sports I only glance at, but I do pay a bit more attention to Basketball than others.
