View Full Version : Monday Blues - What did you play?

*Snap*. Just like that it's here again. Monday the weekend eating day. Most of mine was preparing for an oral presentation and studying for some exams. Loads of fun. But at least I was done with my Spigot flu. I might be looking forward to this Monday just so I can not have to think about doing this oral presentation. I hate them. If it was something interesting I was talking about...like video games...how at times you can love a game then suddenly turns to raging hate...making you feel like a spurned lover...now that would be fun. Although I did some of that over the weekend in some threads talking about Dead Space. Which I did get to finish:
Dead Space- Talk about roller coaster ride. I felt pretty confident I would finish the game. Outside of some parts of the game that you had to wonder "why"?, Dead Space was living up to it's presentation. Dark, brooding, anxiety ridden atmosphere that for me literally kept me on the edge of my futon. Even the plot was beginning to unfold to not sound so cliched. Then came the dreaded Chap. 10.
I hate when developers fall in love with something they have created for a game, in this case the stasis, the ability to move stuff with your weapon. I felt it wasn't accurate at times and awkward. It was something that was upgradeable which could be why it was like that. However, with all my upgrades going into my main weapon and armor, it's not likely my stasis will get any better. The tasks you are asked to be done with it does. Or in this case...the event that you have to do it in. I'll just say something so not accurate for me and suddenly now having to do it under pressure...wasn't fun. And arbitrary checkpoints. I've never seen a game where they vary how much after you die, exactly where they will place you. One level it was literally all the way back before you started a complex amount of fetching/do event, Chap. 10, it was not at a point where it was real beneficial. It's as if you were suddenly respawned just as you were making a jump in the middle of the jump and had little time to recover, so you die. Over and over again.
At that point I was done with the game. Luckily for me Spigot talked me down from the gaming ledge. It was worth it. The rest of the game continued like it had, and with an extremely satisfying ending. The review Jay/Fits did was dead on. He portrayed exactly what the game was like. Now i'm probably taking a break from any real gaming with to much to do with school and attempt to delve into something like I did with Dead Space.
So how was your weekend? What did you play?

Still not finished Dead Space yet so I played that when I could. I think I'm on the last level though. Still enjoying it (only thing I haven't liked so far was the AWFUL asteroid shooting sequence which wasn't fit to suck the sweat from a dead man's balls).

I played a decent bit of FFXI, soloed my Samurai from 10 to 15 (in 2 hours, now that's record time) and got 1 party in the dreaded Dunes getting me from 15 to 16. Not bad, overall, the job is fun, but I'm only leveling it as a sub job choice for Warrior post 60.
I played a little bit of both Star Ocean and Valkyria Chronicles, but no more than an hour of each really.
This morning I got to play the "turn on my projection TV and get a heavily distorted picture" game. It sucks. The worst part: the warranty ends literally today. So now I get to call Sears and see what I can do about getting it fixed, or if they'll even cover it with the warranty going out today. If they won't cover it, well, there goes another $250-$350.
So no PS3 or 360 gaming until I can get that fixed, so even more PS2/PSP gaming is in my future, at least for probably the next week or so. Hell, maybe I'll even start the original Persona......

Lots of WoW. Got my Warlock from barely 46 to almost 48. And I've decided that if 99% of the Alliance players I come across (and who are 10+ levels over me) want to swoop in and gank me (I'm on a PVP server), then I'm going to do the same to any Alliance player I come across. Granted I still wait until they finish a fight first. I'm not that mean. ;)

Oh I so agree. I hope I remember Dead Space for the really good game it is...and not the asteroid sequences or what I call the "library" sequence (chap. 10). Post in the DS ending thread when done.

I had a full weekend of Fable 2 and Deadspace planned, but then my 360 caught the dreaded RROD on Saturday. Needless to say I was pretty put off by this. Then my kitchen flooded and I realized that I'm under some sort of curse.
I did get in a little gaming this weekend on my computer. Left 4 Dead demo, which rocks. Peggle, which is always fun. I also played several levels of Eets, which I am really enjoying, and the World of Goo demo, which is fun yet frustrating.

I'm having a blast with my Tauren Death Knight...I'm still on the starting area, but it's been a hoot.
Hopped on to my shammy and saw that level 71 will require 1.5 MILLION experience points. Dr. Evil was saying it in my head, "ONE POINT FIVE MILLLLLION."
Oi.
Also played some more Fallout. Really, really love that one. I ended up wandering around rather than following the main quest...and boy was it worth it. Found a...dungeon...thingee...with a ton o' ammo and supplies.
Being able to build your own weapons is awesome. I think the Shish-ke-Sword may well be my favorite in game weapon evah! :D

Didn't have much time this weekend, but got in more Fallout 3 time. Done 2/3 of all locations in the wasteland playing Evil now (thank you Explorer perk!). Think I'm going for the "explore everything" achievement at this point, instead of just running the main quest to the finish.
Almost all my weapons are now the named ones, fully repaired. Pretty much every fight, I instantly dominate. ;)
Also, pro tip: If you get the Alien Blaster, have repaired it with the other random alien weapon drop and it's condition is turning to shit, just hand it over to the brotherhood outcast leader, then kill him and take it back. It'll be at 100% condition!

Lots of Rock Band at my girlfriend's birthday party on Friday, and FF4 for the rest of the weekend. I'm doing a bunch of item hunting now, the tails, so I get to auto battle as I watch TV. Now I just need some more interesting things to be on when I have free time x.x.

For the first time in months, I was able to do some serious gaming this weekend. The GF and I went to this couple's house for dinner (one of her work friends that I didn't know very well). Little did I know that they were closet gamers. They had every current-gen console, as well as a PSP and DS. So we spent a lot of the night talking gaming, which was surprising. That opened up me telling her on the way home that I hadn't been gaming as much since we started dating in January which led to her saying that was silly which led to about 6 hours of Fable II this weekend.
I am loving, loving, loving that game. For one, I fully expect there to be a dog in my apartment after playing. I can't believe how many times I had to check myself because I thought my dog was in another room.
And I love that I am able to take (within reason) whatever persona I want. One of my favorite books is The Count of Monte Cristo and I have made my character "adopt" to that: Amassing wealth and slowly plotting my revenge. I know I can't really do that much in terms of making the story go that way, but dammit it's fun to imagine. So I'm buying as much as I can, making money hand over fist and raising prices slowly but surely. I even took a wealthy wife thinking I would get some of that scratch. When I discovered I would get none of that dough I banged her, took her out to Bower Lake and burnt her to a crisp.
EDIT:
Waiting for the NXE, so I can install Fable 2 and play it without my 360 sounding like it's going to take off...
Fuck yes. It kept my GF awake, and it's two rooms away. I'm expecting a RRoD any day now. :(

Fallout 3. Lots and lots of Fallout 3. I've FINALLY started on the story. Only because I think I've run out of side quests to do that come up without doing the story. That, and I hit the level cap. I have 6 skills maxed which I think is pretty good. I think that if done right I could do 7.

I played some Tropico (PC)
Getting ready for Tropico 3? I loved this game! I always tried to be the benevolent leader but usually ended up have the opposition leader assassinated or hauled off to jail.
I played a bunch of missions in Syndicate! It's just as fun and frustrating as I remember it. :p
Put a lot of time into The Witcher. Got a lot of the little quests out of the way and I'm starting to get ahead in the main story.
Got a little tired of killing so I decided to put some time into my nurturing self and played a couple scenarios in CivCity: Rome. I swear the voiceover for the senator that gives you your missions is Michael Palin from Monty Python. I keep expecting him to say: "No no he's not dead, he's, he's restin'! Remarkable bird, the Norwegian Blue, idn'it, ay? Beautiful plumage!".

Ended up getting quite a bit of gaming time this weekend, almost all of it spent on the PS3. Started and finished Mirror's Edge (short game, but such an exciting game).
Got some Call of Duty: World at War in, and a bit more Resistance 2. I spent much of Saturday playing through Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. I really like the improvements they made to the game. This is what Motorstorm should have been in the first place.

For those playing Fallout 3 on the PC - does it play like a PC game, or does it feel like a console title? Also, I know there are GFWL achievements, but are there Steam achievements as well? I've been wondering about this for a while - namely whether or not the PC version actually feels like a PC-native game.

Spent most of the weekend getting my Staff/Shaman and his mercenaries up to 18 on Atlantica (http://atlantica.ndoorsgames.com/center/default.asp). Really liking this MMO, plays more like FF Tactics than the usual group (tank-healer-dps) MMO dynamic.

Yeah. My favourite parts of WoW (and other MMO's) is seeing new areas and content. Burning Crusade really wowed me for a months when it first came out. I think Lich King can reignite my passion. I just don't like it when I get to the point about a level or two before the level cap and have nothing left to do except finish off a few quests and get to raiding. I don't like raids.
Plus I finally have a laptop that I can play the game on, so it'll give me something to tinker with when my wife is watching TV instead of just playing Peggle. Bloody Peggle....
I still think it's insanely stupid that I have to go to the store and buy a physical copy of Lich King instead of just being able to buy a key and download the software online.

I mean, I played WoW for 2 1/2 years at least before I finally pulled the plug and that was more because of the kids and work than anything. Now that I have a lappy that I can use when I visit the inlaws and watch TV, I will probably get back into it with a vengeance. I bought the DVD version, so it only has the Live achievements. It was the only game I played this weekend (except for about 1 hour of Gears on Friday night). Plays like a pc game to me. Though, that could just be the way I'm playing it. Has the same dialog trees that a game like Witcher has and that's a pc game.

That would have been my question, but I hopped over to the website. It kicks you take page that outlines the insert plastic munies and play you junkie bit.
Now I'm shaking and scratching like I'm rehabbed and on step 4 of 12 and staring at my dealers door.
Closer to the topic I beat World of Goo (ignore all those levels I skipped). Started up HL2, realized I was still in the middle of Ravenholm, played for 5 minutes, then quit out. Maybe I'll try again next year :P

You were a blast to play with because you always laughed along with me whenever something funny happened. I find that a lot of people are kind of quiet unless something important needs to be said (like if Boomers or Maulers are approaching), and that's totally fine... I imagine that some people find me annoying because I talk too much. But I thought it was fun that you were as talkative as I was and that you laughed and seemed to be having as much as I did.
I recall that something really funny happened at one point, but I can't remember what it was. Actually, wait, I do remember. I think it was the time when there were four of us, and we all went up different sets of stairs at the beginning of the level on Blood Drive, and we didn't know we had split up. Each of us said, "No, we'll move to where you guys are!" and we all ended up dying together at the middle portion between the sets of stairs at pretty much exactly the same time. I was laughing so hard when that happened. :p

If it was, I didn't notice it. Of course, it has been so long since I played that I've spent most of the day downloading the other components of the game (this close to getting BC fulling reinstalled) so bah.
Blizzard likes their big press event launch events. So far they have not released a download version of the game or expansion anywhere near launch.

Good luck Santa! Let me know if your fiancee needs company. :p
She would love your company! I think she wishes to stalk you next by text messaging you...

You were a blast to play with because you always laughed along with me whenever something funny happened. I find that a lot of people are kind of quiet unless something important needs to be said (like if Boomers or Maulers are approaching), and that's totally fine... I imagine that some people find me annoying because I talk too much.
I'm usually quite the chatterbox online as well. I also scream and curse a lot especially when playing Left 4 Dead. :o

There's already one COGer who has text-messaging access to me, and one is enough. I only have so many a month, not that I wouldn't love talking to ADDGirl! :)

After I'd spent half the day reinstalling my files and driving to the store to buy the game.
It's just that if you click on the thing that says, "Buy Lich King Now!" it takes you to a page that shows the box and lists a bunch of retailers. Grr...

You sound like me when I'm playing Gears 2 (or any shooter, I guess!). :)
It's a shame we can't play L4D together. Even if your 360 hadn't died, I know you'd be playing it on PC anyway. I wish I had a Magic PC. These days, I have a non-magical Mac. :o
I played Digimon Battle Card on my PSP. How awesome is that?

I have a non-magical Mac as well, with a Windows partition.
I'll have a Magic PC in a few months though! :D
We'll play some 360 games online sometime.

If I wasn't spending obscene amounts of money to get the basement finished, I'd concider upgrading my current rig to some thing that's not older than my kids.
That said, guess who just got L4D for the 360! I haven't seen a screenshot. I haven't tried the demo. I haven't done anything with it. I'm buying this purely on the buzz that everyone has been spouting about it for the past few months.
It had better be worth it....

Late getting to this thread, and didn't do a whole lot of gaming over the weekend; my company laid off about 30% of our workforce on Friday, so it was a rough end to last week and kind of a stressful weekend / beginning of this week.
Oh well. I did get in some Fallout 3, and a little bit of World of Goo, which is still absolutely delicious. And a fair amount of the Left 4 Dead demo, which I'm now looking forward to playing the full version of with you folks.

I just played for the last four hours. I didn't survive - Avakus and Digital Erich jumped on the helicopter without me at the end of No Mercy (the first campaign/movie). Made it all the way to the end of the second campaign/movie (called Death Toll), but we all died and everyone had to quit for the night. I had so much fun!!
L4D might end up being my game of the year. I haven't gotten this into a multiplayer game in a long time.

I played through singleplayer with the computer and finished the first 'movie' without dying... on Normal. I'm impressed and can definately see how the game would be awesome with live people instead of the AI.
I'll hopefully get to play with humans tonight, assuming Live isn't borked from the NXE.

Normal? Real men played on Advanced.
And die, a lot. :p

For this thread there is no "late" to the party. Each week it grows further into the week. Soon we will be adding "weekday play"...and no Spigot, i'm not frontpaging it :)

Hey, that was my first time even trying the game. Cut me some slack.
In fact, just join my team and we'll see how friendly my fire is...
And Purple Santa, I don't understand your hatred of frontpaging this thread. Why does Weekend Gamer get all the glory but Monday Blues has to fade to the background?

Because the weekend is awesome! And Mondays...well they just suck ;).
Monday blues just don't look as "newsy" I guess. :p
And we now have dragged this thread till Thursday...we shall call it the "weekday gaming" now ;)

That's what you get for not frontpaging this thing. Monday Blues always looked newsy over at EvAv. Elitist!
It's ok. One more day and we can start a new Weekend Gamer thread and let this one die.

And now this thread will bookend with Weekend Gamer for now...

Well, you should at least toss a link in the Weekend Gamer to say, "It's Monday! Come on over to the Monday Blues thread to talk about what you played."
I shall not rest until this situation doesn't involve me digging through the forum lists. You guys should know by now that if it's not on the front page or on the sidebar, I rarely find it until much too late :)

Maybe there should only be ONE Monday Blues thread that just never ends. In these troubled times every day seems like a Monday.
