Things you never thought you'd do: Shaving my cats ass

Some of you may recall that my cat had surgery about 2 months ago. Some of you may have been scarred by the post op pictures. Well he had some complications and had to have surgery again. So when I took him back to have his second set of stitches removed I was informed that I would have to keep him shaved. This is because hair can now grow into his urethra and cause infection and difficulty peeing. Tonight Santa held him while I shaved him and I felt so bad about it.

He was hardly a man before the surgery as my cats are all spayed/neutered, he doesn't even notice the loss of his penis. He is as happy as he was before the surgery and more loveable. He is a young cat to put him down for something so very fixable would be cruel. He has been hairless down there since his surgery. It isn't like he sits there looking at it thinking what the fuck.

I don't really want to go digging around for the original post since I'm in a computer lab, even though it is in the vet med building, so what was the original reason you had to get surgery for him? Urinary tract problems? I know boy cats get them pretty easily but I hadn't heard of a case severe enough to warrant removal of the penis entirely.

Well the one true difference from what little I can see of the cat was Sylvester had like a lighting bolt shaped white stripe between his eyes. Also, unless that's an enormous tidy cat box and a giant sized copy of PCWorld then your cat's a lot smaller too. I think Sylvester weighted close to 30 lbs...lol. Poor obese kiddee.:D

30lbs?? Our biggest cat is only 14lbs. "Sylvester" there is only about 9lbs. We had to put him on a diet :D.

He could not pee and was blocked by crystals, they did a catheterization with a vinegar solution and dissolved the crystals, and put him on antibiotics. At that time my vet told me it was highly likely that the crystals would come back and that he would likely have to remove the penis at the base to create a larger opening so that the crystals could be passed.

Not even a week later he couldn't pee again and they did the surgery, he went through the healing process and about two weeks after that could not pee again. The vet said the new opening had completely sealed and he had to do surgery again. He has been fine since, other than having to have his butt and the area around his new opening shaved. My vet said he has to do about 30 of these surgeries a year.

Have you ever considered that I am a college student with no job, barely living off of student loans and what I can mooch off my mother? Also that is a rather sensitive region and I don't know that they would laser it off. I know when women get their pubes lasered off they will not do the area closest to the labia because it is such a sensitive region.

Phantom is 10.2 lbs, that is a tidy cat box that can hold something like 40lbs of litter. There are cuter pictures of Phantom in one of the cat threads, but here are a few.

Sorry I wasn't trying to be bitchy I just come out that way sometimes. Phantom had the procedure where they dissolve the crystals and we changed his diet to something prescribed by the vet and the crystals returned a week later.

30 lbs might be an exaggeration if your biggest cat is less than half that size. Probably closer to 20-25. Let's just say he was big enough to where if anyone picked him up, they would always give out a little grunt while doing so. lol

Oh and he didn't run away because I painted his nose red. Considering I did that when he was young, I had him from the time he was less than a year and he was I think about 9 or 10 years old when he disappeared. I had a lot of cats "disappear" during that time. I think my neighbor was calling animal control to get them taken away. Sylvester was an inside cat, but he may have gotten out at some point. Because he was an inside cat, we didn't have a collar on him. Our other cats weren't actually ours, they were just strays that my girl would feed so they hung around. They all disappeared slowly. My neighbor's an asshole.
