We're scantily clad at the following link (http://www.ingamechat.net/audio/IGC20111022.mp3).

The first of our opinions on Arkham City are smeared over the bulk of this episode. There's some Dark Souls to be had, some nonsense about pandas, and John Carmack figures into the conversation somehow. But our thoughts are with the Dark Knight just now. It's as good a time as any of us has had this year, but there's a sense that it won't satisfy every taste once we've all played our fill. We, the hosts, will be of roughly the same mind, I imagine, but there are some sick people in this world, and I've heard rumors they liked the first game a bit more. I can only hope they're marginalized as effectively as I was regarding Max Payne, and that the inevitable third entry can follow the logical progression.

I had the same reservations as you guys about battlefield 3, but so far I'm having great craic. Not only because it is nowhere near as buggy as the beta but also its the first console game in years that all my friends have decided to pick up at the same time. Spose what I enjoy about it the most, is that its not just pure kill/death ratio that decides how well you preform, but what you actually contribute to the match.

It's lived up to all my expectations... it's fantastic!

But the game has a LOT of stupid shit. Thinks like the sniper scope flashlight and campers gettings spawn points for sitting there, shouldn't happen. Other things like weapon balance, damage models, hitboxes, UI, etc. make it a bad experience, especially on the pc.

Dont forget about the connotations of the general populous telling you something is good. It is the whole reason why mac has so much money. People say it is worth the extra grand, so they pay it, especially those who know nothing about PCs. MW3 sells because people say it is good, and there is a subset of those who dislike MW so they say BF is good, so bf gets sales based only on that factor along. Not trying to nullify your decision to get it, but saying a shooter where k/d doesn't matter is a good thing, fine, but there are other ways to go about it then rewarding stupidity in design (not saying that you are rewarding it, but their design is).

Off to class, time to learn about lasers again, take it easy everyone, thanks for the episode guys.

James, send me an email or something, let me know when you will be up for recording another damnitslam show. I am home friday thru sunday (monday this week).

I haven't played the PC version so I can't comment on that but for the console the issues you've listed have not been major issues for myself. There is some spotty net code, but nothing that can be considered game breaking. I do find the UI frustrating but only in their matchmaking system but these are things I can endure as along as I am enjoying the game. Flashlights are possibly too effective it is some thing that hasn't bothered me too much. I have heard people grumbling about sniper rifles being nerfed. I myself am happy about it, its one of the things that I found hurt the balancing in Bad Company 2.

I haven't noticed flashlight scope issue which could be a PC only thing, either that or I'm blind. With regards to squad spawn its one of the things that adds fluidity to gameplay. It propels the squad to always be moving forward together. Camping is always going to be inherent in every FPS. But if you are camping or the opposing team is camping, it wont last for too long because due to squad spawn you can root out the camper very easily, Ive found anyway.

With regards to the general populous connotations, I don't know exactly understand where your coming from? As I said I, had my reservations, I really disliked the beta, but reviews seemed to emphasize that the beta was a very poor reflection of the game, and universally they all seemed to agree that it was a great muliplayer experience. Which it is, in my opinion. Obviously these games are more fun to play with friends, so it was great to be sharing the "battlefield moments" with my friends.

Oh and single player and co-op I have zero interest in :)

No, I have my own pod. James and I discussed BF3 alpha a bit back and have been trying to record post that and post beta, but been unable to. The link to mine is in my sig.

I think you misunderstood some of the things I said, the flashlight isn't the flashlight blinding thing, but the sniper scope in a tunnel puts off light issue. None of these are console or PC only issue, it is design changes from bc2 to 3.

I don't read reviews particularly. I don't believe a wall of text can be more valuable then my own experiences, hearing those of people who have played in on podcasts or watching gameplay videos. I get that the game can be fun, but the pc and console FPS crowds are extremely different. CS 1.6 is the most popular pc shooter, with cs:s below it slightly or ahead on any given day. Things like Metro 2033 as opposed to COD are the norm on pc.

I understand what you mean by the scope, but I don't think of it as poor design. I'm sure you can understand why I might disagree. Obviously PC and console play differently. They are hitting two different demographics. From a console point of view its a great game. It definitely does have poor design issues i.e., matchmaking UI and preventing you from organising a party of more than 4 people but to me they are small issues compared to what is on offer.

I get what is being said, but in the grand scheme of things.... (and this is something I have been pondering all week because of the reviews for AC:2-3, BF3, and MW3)

Why is it that an identical game can have something completely wrong with it, and the pc crowd will bash it, while the console crowd will simply overlook it? If something like counter-strike did the scope thing, there would be a big backlash. In fact, they did something similar with Day of Defeat: Source, where every kill showed a killcam to the person being killed. Completely fine on console, shown in BF, COD, and other games. On PC, DOD:S, the community completely abandoned the game and refused to play it. Essentially, that one change destroyed the entire enjoyment for everyone. Then TF2 comes out, huge success, but it has the same issues that DOD:S did. You could walk through players, the game wasn't a remake or following TF: classic, and the killcam. This lead to the game being abandoned by competitive players, and now it is for people who want to collect hats and weapons that have %5 more stamina or some shit.

I just don't understand how reviewers, and other people who tell people what to think, can justifiable say things like "this is a great game despite all of this shit" or "the SP is shit, but fuck it, it is for MP anyways" when you know someone will get this game, not have XBL-Gold and then think that BF is some low rent crappy wanna be summer blockbuster movie game.

Let me put it this way, I can understand why people would say "I enjoy playing this game", but I cannot fucking phathom why they think it is any good when there are other things out there that attempt to not screw the basics up so poorly. Justifying it by saying "It's different Demographics" is like saying one person isn't good enough to have a game that does the basics right, when in reality every game should know how to do the essentials correctly.
